Patrick Sullivan helped me with my issue while I waited and was clearly very knowledgeable about his craft. He shared that the shop has been open since 1937 (wow!) and has been a neighborhood staple in its current location for almost 20 years! The sell all types of bikes and accessories from small water bottle holders to big 4 bike racks. They also have a full service workshop/garage for the bikes that need some TLC. I will be needing a bike rack for my car, and while I know I can just go online, wing it and buy something a hair cheaper (and probably crappy), I will instead be purchasing it here once I have my hitch installed, where I confidently know I will receive the best advise and recommendations - all while supporting a local shop. To top it off, Patrick was very thorough, courteous, speedy and professional. If you're reading this, you're probably in need of a bike shop - well, congrats! You're search is over - bring your bike here!

I don't know but that's borderline attempted murder Esspecially with how traffic is these days. Probably just because I refused more extensive needless repairs.

Eventually I found a bike rack and it motivated me to bring it to the bike shop around the corner from my house. Finally loaded it up, only to find that the rack was crumbling. Carefully, carefully, slowly got it to the shop in one piece and they told me they would only assemble bikes purchased at their shop. So what was I supposed to do with this heavy bike frame dangling precariously from my car? I went back to the parking lot and called Michigan Bicycles. "Can you take this off my hands today?" They said they couldn't assemble it ASAP but they would let me drop it off immediately, as long as I was ok with waiting a couple of days. It's already been collecting dust in my basement, so what's a few more days? As soon as I arrived at the shop, they came outside and helped me unhook the bike frame from my car and bring it in. Looking around, I noticed how cheap my tires looked compared to everything in the shop and started to wonder if I was going to be upsold on better parts (to be fair, I probably should have been) but that never happened. Four days later I got a phone call from the shop. They wanted to know if I was in the area and if they could deliver so they wouldn't scratch my bike up while it sat around. All week I was thinking I needed to rush and find a new bike rack to haul it home, but 10 minutes later a super nice guy named Mike pulled up in front of the house and dropped it off. I'm thrilled. I'll be back to look at used/consignment bikes with my niece.
