In that haste, some items were damaged and I offered that feedback in the follow-up survey. I quickly received a call from the company offering to discount my move and send Walter Davies, a furniture repair person, out to make furniture repairs. That concern for customers and making things right earns Bookstore Movers 5-star service. Walter Davies was excellent and thorough in repairing my furniture. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

Most concerning is the inclusion of a "Confession of Judgment" clause. This aggressive legal tactic attempts to strip consumers of their right to due process in court, and it has been explicitly illegal in Maryland consumer contracts since 2020. Furthermore, their opening paragraph states they "in no event function... as an interstate or intrastate common carrier." This is a massive red flag, as it appears to be a deliberate loophole to dodge the state's mandatory cargo insurance and liability protections that legitimate movers are required to carry. Upon requesting that Doyle strike these clauses from their contract, they refused to do so, because they "do over 1,000 moves a year and send the same contract to every customer we service." Unfortunately, that contract contains illegal and predatory language.

Their customer service side of the house is terrible that included poor judgment and no apology. So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. I rented a Uhaul truck and then they offer you to add moving help. Something told me that though they had the lowest price that you could never beat, they will also deliver a good service. And sure enough, it started by them confirming via text the same night I booked and following up the day after to schedule the move. Communication was great and they confirmed the day before as well. that already made me feel better! I've booked 2 man for 3 hours. The morning of the move, they showed up right on time, and not only that they were on time, instead of 2 people, 4 people showed up!!! No extra charge but double the manpower (don't know if that's a regular thing or not, but it was sure a pleasant surprise). They got to work right away, had a very good attitude and all in all made the move so much easier. I underestimated the amount of things that we had and the amount of things you can fit in a 10ft uhaul truck, so we ended up having to do 2.5 truck loads to the new place (10 min ride) so we finished the job in 3 hours and 25 minutes so I gladly paid the extra hour (if you go over the time you have to pay in 1 hour increments) and added a nice tip. Those guys made this move so much better and stress free, I could not have asked for better help. DON'T THINK TWICE!!! book them for your move!

I was panicking at the thought of having to just leave the old furniture in my apartment since my move out day was the very next day (I am only 5'1 and unable to move it alone). At first conversation he was very understanding of my situation and really wanted to help me out. He went as far as switching around some prior engagements to help me. He arrived the next day earlier then our stated time, moved all of the furniture out of the apartment for me and even completed the task in less than an hour. We even discussed giving it to Salvation Army or to a Battered Woman's Shelter. I appreciate all the help and will definitely reach out to them again.

I have been qualified for energy assistance. They have received money every year from the Office of Home Energy Programs. One year they paid over $1400.00. Therefore, because of my financial circumstances, I couldn't pay the $400 to $600 once propane was delivered. The Grant money is issued once a year in July or August. They refused to work with me. They cut me off a couple of times during the winter months. I have not used any propane in over a year. I purchased a heating element to do anything that I needed to cook. I also have a microwave and toaster oven. Having to look over several months statements, I noticed that I am being charged a rental fee of $53.00, that said annual fee. Every time I get a bill there is that rental fee added to the bill. I have had so many discussions with them, the last email I received from them told me that all companies charge rental fees. I called a couple of the other companies and was told they do not charge a rental fee on their tanks. When I informed them that they were wrong, I was told to find another company. I don't know what business behaves this way, but in my opinion, it is wrong. I am 76 years old and disabled. I can't work any longer and my social security benefits cover just the bare necessities, such as rent, food, water and sewer, gas, car insurance, registration on my vehicle is over $190.00. I can't pay it all. Yes, I get $50 food stamps benefits, but that amount is very small. I do appreciate it though. I'm at my wits end. I have a low credit score and can't afford to get another propane company without them asking for a huge deposit. If I had a large amount in my bank, I wouldn't be in this situation.

From start to finish - this company knows how to provide high quality customer service and highly skilled staff. I have never used professional movers before nor had I ever helped downsize and relocate a home. Our experience moving my parents from Potomac, MD to Newport News, Virginia was exceptionally smooth and efficient. The moving estimate was accurate, the packing materials provided were exactly what we needed, and everything followed the timeline we were promised. The moving team the day of the move were so very kind and thorough. They walked the whole house with me to be sure they were clear about what their task was and patiently worked around the medical equipment we had in the house for my dad. The next day, the team was there to unload the truck just as they promised at the agreed upon time. It was wonderful to see a familiar face with my parent's belongings! They were efficient and patient as we figured out what went where in the new home. Our "organizer" told us this was the BEST move she'd experienced in the last year and she does this for a living so she has LOTS of experience. Truly, the movers who helped us move into our new apartment were the kindest and most helpful professionals I have worked with while moving. Not only did the arrive promptly, they finished the job early, saving us money. They were polite and cared about our furniture, clothing, dishes and personal items. Everything was handled, packed, unpacked and place with the utmost care. I have many fragile statues and collections of crystal and china- all of it was perfectly moved and accounted for. The two men who helped us were both friendly and kind- which I have found to be very rare when working with movers or handymen. They took special care to keep my new apartment clean and brought all of there own materials, making everything so easy for me. The entire process was easy, quick and beyond satisfactory. Metropolitan Moving have moved us now three times in the past five years. Their service is so good we keep coming back. They just moved us out of a 3-story DC row house to an out-of-state 3rd floor walk up. The move was arduous to say the least, but the guys did a fantastic job. The pre-move estimate went smoothly and was accurate. The movers arrived on time and hustled and moved everything into the truck super quick. The next morning they arrived at our new place on time and were just so impressive with how they navigated two flights of steep stairs with our bulky furniture. They had a great attitude and sense of humor and got us moved in far quicker than I imagined with absolutely no stress for me or my husband. We recently moved from western MD to Howard county. A friend referred me to metropolitan moving and I'm glad we went with them. Someone came to our house to give us an estimate. We got our own boxes. 6 guys came to our house on moving day with 2 trucks and were quick to load. We have young children and they still made it as seamless as possible. The travel time to our new location was about an hour. By days end we our new place took shape with furniture in all the right places. They were helping and respectful and eager to relocate things when I asked. My children were able to sleep in their comfy beds that night. The best part is that the cost came in under the estimate. This was a great moving experience. We moved out of state and it could have been a very stressful scene but Metropolitan made it easy. I really liked that they offered a dedicated truck and movers, so our stuff was moved by two awesome guys onto one truck and then delivered the next day by the same guys. These guys were amazing. Three guys moved us from a one bedroom apartment to a three-story townhouse in one morning. We had done all the packing, but they wrapped up all our furniture. Very polite hard workers. They never stopped moving, they were extra careful with furniture other movers have dropped and damaged, and they were very mindful of our lost cat who suddenly popped out from under a dresser when they moved it. I was very pleased with how much care they took to not scrape walls or bump ceiling light fixtures in our new house. Little pricey but worth every penny. We had a fabulous experience with Metropolitan Moving and Storage. Dimitri was our contact. He was great to work with. They moved our belongings from an entire floor as we were renovating that floor. Just about the time we were planning on moving things back in we had a house fire. They had to keep our household belongings 6 months rather than two or three months. Metropolitan moved us from MD to PA in August 2020. The four guys, headed by crew chief Mario, were all friendly and extremely competent. They packed us up and unloaded the next day without incident. They moved furniture and boxes to the rooms we designated, and adjusted even when we had picked the wrong room initially. Since moving to the DC region in '88 I have had 4 moves, each one of them was ghastly. The crews were slow & discombobulated at best. To make matters worse they all broke things & some stole things. Day of the move the team was late and I didn't receive communication. It also took 10 hours to move a 3 bedroom 2200 sq house to a 1600 sq foot townhome and we had to leave a number of items in the original home that I had to go back to retrieve on my own. I asked for patio furniture and a grill to be added day of (1 table, 6 stackable chairs, 2 wicker chairs with ottoman's) and am unsure if this contributed to the increased time of the move (the estimate I was given was for 7 hours). I was told dismantling the beds could be easily handled by the team, I mentioned I could handle them but didn't get to it in time so they dismantled them but then the screws were lost to one bed and they refused to put the other two children's beds together (citing liability which I was not informed of). I was left with multiple broken items (the leg and attachment of my dresser completely broke off, both my children's dresser legs were broken, there was a hefty chip on a buffet table, a plastic storage bin was broken, and my suede ottoman was covered in water after being placed near patio furniture. Freshly painted walls are now scuffed and several doorframes have dents/dings following completion of the move. It has been several weeks- I contacted the owner with photos of my broken items and was immediately told he would be happy to fix/replace things and asked for item numbers which I provided. Since then- nothing has been done and I assume nothing by will be done.
