Metuchen Nail Spa is an outstanding nail salon. I visited for the first time after being disappointed by two other salons in the area. Hank was incredibly accommodating and made time for me before a beach trip, which I really appreciated. I requested a nail design that resembled melting ice cream, and Hank was meticulous in getting every detail just right. He checked in with me throughout the process to make sure I was happy before curing each nail. The final result was so creative and perfect for summer. What I didn't expect was that the manicure would end up in a very special photo; my partner proposed that weekend, and the nails ended up being part of a moment I'll never forget. I'm genuinely grateful for the care and attention Hank put into his work. Had I gone to one of the other salons, I know I would've been disappointed. I don't think I would have been as excited to share photos from that day. (It sounds ridiculous, but I'm sure many women can relate.) So on my never-ending quest to find a fantastic nail tech. Got my nails done here. She did a decent job. Pedicure was nice. The chair was comfortable, the girl did a leg massage and a nice job on my toenails. The manicure was good. It would've been a better experience if they were nice when you walk in because they weren't, I don't need Anyone to kiss up to me but "hello how are you? What is your name? I am so and so" is nice since you have to sit there with the person in close proximity for over an hour. If going to a place where they are friendly and give you the time of day when you walk in is your thing, this will not be the spot for you. The price was reasonable for the level of skill applied but not sure if I will go back because of the unwelcoming vibe. If I had any advice for the business owners, it would be to welcome your clients when they walk in not look at them like they are about to panhandle when they walk in for an appointment. I really felt like I was walking into somewhere I shouldn't be. I was instantly uncomfortable upon walking in. During the service a "hello, how are you?" Would be nice as well since the entirety of my manicure was nonverbal to a point where it felt awkward. Nina the nail tech had no issues cracking jokes to her coworkers though, God only knows what was being said. I like to be able to talk to my nail tech comfortably when asking for a nail shape to be a certain way or for my cuticles to be cut, etc., especially when I'm spending $150. Customer service here is the worst I've ever encountered getting my nails done. Not sure I will be back, I may continue looking for a better balance. I get these services once every 3 to 4 weeks and I do consider it a luxury service, I would like to feel like my business is appreciated. Believe it or not, it makes a big difference on whether or not people return to a business. I would've given them at least 4 stars if they were pleasant at all. But they especially Nina- were rude. ***UPDATE*** My $95 + tip manicure is 9 hours old and I've already lost a stone. I asked the tech (Nina) specifically if she was using glue or gel for the stones (the jar very obviously looked like gel- the heavy duty glue for stones comes in a tube) She said "it's gel glue." Never going back. Update* Day 3.5- 6 stones gone and counting. Cuticles look worse than they did when I went in for the appointment. Stopped by Blue Swan nails in Edison- received the warmest welcome upon walking in and made an appt w them to fix this mess. My advice- go to a business where you and your money are treated with respect. My rating is down from a 4 to a 1. There is no longevity to her work and now I have to pay again to have it repaired. I got a Halloween acrylic set done here. Although I admit the design was a bit complex, my nail tech guy (Hank) did his very best and it looked amazing for his capabilities (it was supposed to be bats but I changed it to ghosts and only one of them looks not as up to standards as the others). They are a great couple who runs this business. I was there for about 2 hours. The place is clean and organized but doesn't have a modern look. I love the textures that these game and they lasted for a while before my nails were too grown out. Paying in cash is preferred but you can pay with card too. They also have a high school discount, which I think is so sweet. I plan to go back for a pedicure or another set of nails. read more

Whenever I go to other nail salons , I'm feel the intensity of the stress from an employee or the passive aggressive attitudes. Mai and Hank makes me feel like I'm visiting my relatives homes . They take their time doing my nails and keep in check if it's exactly how I want the nail shapes to look and feel. I always get so many complements on my cute nails thanks to Mai's artistic skills If I come with a photo she recreates it in her style. Even with the tip, the prices here are very affordable compared to other places I used to go. I go here for the tranquil atmosphere , cute AF designs and the kindest owners. This place is great! It's a husband and wife duo doing the absolute best they can during COVID. I came for a pedicure and they did such a wonderful job; lots of attention to detail with water temperature, nail length, and a lovely foot massage! I'm not that fussy when it comes to colour, but if you are just be aware that they don't have endless options so try to have a backup option in case they don't have the shade you want. Had a wonderful experience at this salon! The guy who did my nails (I forgot his name) was very accommodating and wanted to make sure i was satisfied with my nails throughout the entire process. He encouraged me to be honest if I didn't like something, or to just let him know if i wanted something to be thinned out more/ shaped more accurately to my preference. I appreciate him for frequently checking in with me to see if I was happy or wanted something to be fixed. Because of that, my nails came out exactly as I envisioned! I also really liked how he explained his techniques, I learned a lot about acrylic nail application through him! Lol. Just keep in mind that it's just him and his wife working at the salon, and they seem to have a good amount of customers. While I was getting my nails done, my technician picked up the phone numerous times and/or helped customers stopping in my buy gift certificates for the holiday season. I got a gel manicure, which came out okay. I really like the way Mai took her time removing my existing gel polish and addressing my nails and cuticles, as one of my big pet peeves is a nail tech who is in a rush. She took her time. I have always felt a little uneasy at nail salons due to anxiety from feeling judged or out of place, but from the moment I stepped in the door, Mai & Hank made me feel so welcomed. Both of them take their time and always stop to ask if you are comfortable and happy with the shape, color, etc. They place extra emphasis on prepping your nails before polish, which is one of the reasons I think my nails last so long. Please keep in mind that it is only the two of them working, so they may not be able to take you on short notice. I was on a hunt to find a nail salon that would NOT overcharge on gel manicure and regular pedicure m. Thanks to other yelpers, I found this little gem. I'm glad I called to book an appointment and at first, they told me they're book for the evening and all day Saturday until 2pm. I decided to take a certain appointment later on during the weekday, provided my name and number. Minutes later I received a call that someone canceled their 6pm appointment. I took that appointment. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted and was told to go pick out a color and that they are running a bit behind schedule. There are 3 staff, 2 men and 1 woman doing pedicures, manicures, full set and waxing. I guess because it's the Friday evening before the holiday weekend, they were fully booked but not to the point where I'd waited too long. Although they do take walk-in, I recommend scheduling an appointment for a better experience. I heard they also turn walk-ins away too if they're fully booked. The service was friendly. The place is quiet and a bit awkward when no one is talking but I didn't mind looking at my Facebook messages while getting my pedicure done. Overall, I love my pedicure and gel manicure! I will be coming here again. Parking is off street but I was told from the staff here that after 6pm, it's meter free. There is also a public meter parking lot behind the salon. read more

I got my pedicure about 4 weeks ago so no complaints with how long a pedicure lasts. It took exactly 30 minutes from start to finish as the technician said it would. There is no heavy duty foot massage involved if that's what you're expecting, I believe they have a spa pedicure if you're looking for a little more TLC. That said, she did take her time through all the steps and didn't rush. Plus, in these corona times, they've done a fantastic job implementing corona protocols. These include temperature taking, dividers between technicians and customers, and socially distanced seats. Mai has been doing my nails for the past year and she is the only manicurist who has convinced me to do something other than a French. They have the dip powder which I love and had used prior, however, I have never seen so many dip colors! I prefer dip because it is more flexible, less fumes, and doesn't require a UV light. Also, this salon is much cheaper than my previous salon. Always make an appointment and you can expect to wait a little bit before you get seated. I needed a new nail salon after relocating to this area from another state, and I am so glad I found this place! I've been here twice so far (both week nights after work)- once as a walk-in, and once with an appointment, and both times I've had great experiences. The owners are extremely welcoming and friendly, the prices are very reasonable (I was paying $10 more at my last place for the exact same service- and this place is just as good, if not better), and the place is very clean. Both times I've gone, my gel manicures have come out perfectly! The owners are very meticulous and helpful, and ask you exactly what you want before starting.
