I'm glad I found this place for lunch. The Navajo Taco with fry bread was delicious. Fresh ingredients, well cooked beans, not much ground beef, and fresh tomatoes and lettuce made a wonderful lunch. Drove wayyyyy out to Mexican Water Trading Post after visiting Monument Valley to chase some Navajo fry bread (and other Navajo inspired treats). Ultimately, our curiosity was met! We shared an order of plain fry bread and another Navajo taco which is fry bread with some fresh taco-like toppings. The fry bread was interesting! It was lightly sweet, with a crispy exterior but a doughy interior. The taco version came topped with ground beef, whole beans, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions. I appreciated the freshness of the ingredients but it definitely sogged up the fry bread. I much preferred the original. Two dishes held us (4 people) over quite well for the remainder of the afternoon. I'm taking off a star simply because of service - it was kind of weird but we also kind of expected it because of the location? We clearly had 4 people but we only got 1 place setting. We were also told to sit at a table but then had to order at the counter anyways? Oh well. This place was a little different. I didn't really know if I should sit down or order at the counter. And even now I couldn't tell you what to do. The guy working didn't say either. I looked at the menu and was intrigued by the Navajo taco. So that what I ordered. It was good. But I have nothing to compare it to. The protein was beans with ground beef. The onions were thick cut. I wasn't a fan of those. Well..... not that many and to thick so for me it over powered a lot of the flavors. If you've never had one swing by and try it. Or get an icecream or pie. I didn't get any of those. Because I wasn't asked. Did I feel out of place? Yeah a little. I wasn't served on a plate. It was a togo container. And others had plates. Wish we could have gotten a look at the Navajo Taco, but no cell service to see the great pictures posted by other customers on Yelp. But...this did allow us the opportunity to post some pictures of items not already on Yelp (good Samaritans! ). We were driving out to Four Corners from Page and much in need of lunch. My sister had some dietary restrictions (and we typically split meals, so we can try a few things) - so we got the chef salad, BLT with fries, and the Navajo Fry Bread. The fry bread was definitely the best part of the meal...I may have saved it as my "dessert." Sister said it reminded her a little of funnel cake, but without the powdered sugar - I can just tell you it was amazing. The chef salad was fine. BLT was a little dry (no mayo?), but we dipped into the French dressing from the salad. The fries were great and got out of the fryer. All in all, a nice stopover for lunch if you are making the long drive from Page. The server was very nice, but definitely a little overwhelmed by the number of people dining in and also coming in for Blue Bunny ice cream scoops. read more

I got what I wanted. I live on the east coast and we can't get fry bread. I've been traveling 5 weeks and expected more chances to get some. Well I finally got a chance and this humble restaurant met the need. My only regret was not having a full fry bread taco. FWIW, they also scoop Blue Bell. read more

We were passing through at supper time and decided to stop since there were a lot of cars parked out front. Service is excellent and the fry bread tacos were delicious! The fry bread was light and didn't taste of oil. Plenty of toppings - chili, beans, etc. A slice of blueberry pie made for a nice dessert. We'll be sure to stop here again. Food is fantastic, but it does need salt, so if you get it to take on the road, make sure you get salt. 3 stars because the service requires improvement and a change in attitude. I asked for a milkshake but she was too busy talking to her coworker and stated she didn't want to prepare one, but my grandmother came in 15 minutes later and had to beg her for for a milkshake and it wasn't like it was busy so I'm not sure why she wouldn't wanna make the milkshake. Stopped to pick up fuel at the adjoining gas station and decided to take time to eat. Are we glad we did. The food was wonderful. We had braised lamb with green chilis and fry bread. The lamb was delicious. The big slices of the green chilis went so well with the pieces of lamb. The fry bread was the best we had ever eaten. Can't wait to get back to this area again and we will definitely be planning on another visit to this authentic restaurant. read more

Stopped in at the Mexican Water Trading Post for a quick bite to eat on my way to the Grand Canyon. There isn't much in terms of food choices along Hwy 160, so this place is a nice surprise when you come over the hill. The restaurant is run by the Navajo Nation, so the menu is small but it sports a lot of local twists, like Navajo Fry Bread and a bunch of dishes that include it -- like the Navajo Taco. They also have traditional American stuff like burgers and wings, but I wanted to try something I can't get at every other corner restaurant in San Diego. So I got the Navajo Taco and my wife got the Navajo Beef. Both dishes were really good -- though I have to admit this was my first Navajo Taco (first Navajo dish of any kind?). The service could be a little more friendly, but I guess things aren't perfect. The decor, like the other reviews said, could use some work -- starting with the restrooms. They were clean-ish, but for all of the missing tiles. read more

We stopped on our way through and wow are we sure glad we did!! The server was very friendly, came right out when we pulled up, and the food was to die for! We ordered the mutton fry bread sandwich and also an omelette with hash browns. It was delicious and served promptly and piping hot. We will definitely be making this a regular lunch spot when passing through! read more

We were starving after a long day of traveling and decided to stop because of the two other reviews. We arrived about a 1/2 hr before closing. It's a quaint little place in the middle of nowhere, our waitress was very sweet and the food was awesome. My daughter had the beef stew, my other daughter had fish and chips and my husband and I each had the Navajo tacos. The portions are generous! I had leftovers to take for later. I highly recommend stopping and tasting the local flavor. :) read more

After a long day on the road - this place pops up out of no where, like a mirage in the dessert. The food is standard diner flare with a few traditional Navajo meals (I.e. Navajo tacos). I ordered the cheeseburger (see my pic). It came piping hot and was the perfect compliment to my road trip. I give this place 4 stars because it was clean, fast, and a blessing to my starving stomach. I topped of my meal with a strawberry ice cream cone. read more

I have eaten here and am glad to recommend it. Glad to see that others also liked the place and the food, especially people passing through. The food is generous and filling and one time I had a great burger and fries and a large coffee as I heading on my way to Salt Lake in the early evening. I normally cook everything from scratch at home so - something simple like this is a great treat for me. For sure, I really liked the meal and it was a Friday night so there were couples and families, which made it very nice to be around. Such a great area and the community is nice. The convenience store next door has very good popcorn from the machine most days and can make the long ride into Shiprock or Farmington more fun if you have something to nibble on. read more

I had lunch chicken fried steakd with a grave that was leftover from that morning, disgusting. The longest wait I ever waited for my breakfast like 1 1/2 hrs this morning again. I don't know want is wrong with these servers and cooks. I don't trust their peRonald hygiene. There were people in the restaurant waited forever and some left due rude serves and cusome services. Good local food at a reasonable price. Worn facility, but kept clean. The daily specials feature native, traditional foods commonly served on the Navajo reservation. Good size servings. Definitely worth trying if you're visiting or driving through. read more

Delicious food! It's missing a star because this place could use a few renovations. It has American entrees as well as famous local Navajo dishes; Navajo tacos, frybread, Navajo burger, mutton stew and sandwiches. Depending where you're going, it's about 50 miles from Shiprock which has other food stops or about 30 miles from Bluff. And more miles in other directions to food! read more
