We had a fantastic dinner! Salsa very tasty, enchiladas and pork burritos. Family and fun atmosphere. The Cadillac margaritas were made by Bob, who served us and spent some time comparing the road less traveled experiences. A great dinner. Fun to chat and they DO now have an ATM. The food was good but nothing special. I have tried several times to go to this restaurant and they were closed. It appears that they close randomly throughout the week and I never have any idea what days they will or will not be open so I have removed this restaurant from my lunchtime list read more

I LOVED THIS PLACE!!!!! We rolled into town and so many reviews of other places made us scared of where to eat. Some locals said THIS was the place to go. Locals know best!!! We sat at the bar and chatted w the staff. Owner, grandson and grandson's friend all worked at this great Mexican place. Do yourself a favor - EAT HERE!!!! Next time we're in town we will be back!!! The service lacked tremendously! The food was very average! The salsa served was in the smallest plastic container I have ever seen used for salsa. I will say the place was busy for a Thursday evening. I would not eat here again. read more

We don't live here but visit frequently and have only tried a couple of the restaurants in town. We were looking for something new and picked this place because of the reviews. The ambiance was fine... great if you are like us and enjoy restaurants with character that are not at all pretentious. The service was weird. We were a big group, so we made a reservation. We were not seated, just pointed in the general direction of our table. Most of the wait staff were very nice but seemed to be struggling to keep up. That's understandable. It was crowded. But it's definitely something they need to work on. Our server was very gruff, but she got the job done. Whatever. It's the first cash-only restaurant I've been to in this country. They have an ATM, so if you don't bring cash at least bring a debit card. Spaghetti with everything is a gimmick that didn't win me over. The chiles rellenos were great. Bean burrito so-so. It was all very affordable and most of it was tasty, so I'm not complaining. I'll go back. Next time I'll know to bring cash and ask them to hold the vermicelli. read more

I travel for business all over the U.S. and I always ask my customers for recommendations on the best place to eat in their city. Mexico City Cafe is not simply the best Mexican restaurant in La Junta, it ranks among the best Mexican restaurants I have eaten anywhere (sorry, Texas, but Mexico City Cafe knocked your best from my top spot!). Everything I had was excellently prepared, fresh and hot. The owners are very friendly and welcoming to strangers and locals alike. A well stocked bar and very knowledgeable bar tender (owner) makes excellent recommendations on beers, tequilas and mixed drinks. But please remember to save room for desert - the tres leches is out of this world. I very much enjoyed my first meal at Mexico City Cafe and I am determined that it will not be my last! The staff and food were great! The restaurant was packed so our group opted for sitting outside since the sun was still up and it wasn't too cold. They started up the heat lamp to help with comfort. Traveling through La Junta, Co and found this gem on Yelp. Great atmosphere, food, and margaritas! We had the avocado tostada and chili, beans and vermicelli. This is authentic Mexican food, and it is definitely the best in the valley. The flavor is awesome, the atmosphere is great and you can' get better service. Prices are definitely reasonable and serving size is generous. It's a little out of the way but it's worth it once you get there! I was in town for a track meet and after reading some reviews online, I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. The people running the place were extremely friendly and the food was superb! The cheese enchiladas were some of the best I have ever had and that is saying something since I live in Pueblo and they have pretty dang good Mexican food there.
