    this is the avocado dip.

Tonight, my mom and i went into mexico city at around 7:45. when we came inside, they were putting chairs on tables and closing. we understand we came in later but this was making us feel rushed. we had asked our waitress for the avocado dip and they forgot it. once they brought our food out, we reminded them we had asked for it. when it came out it looked like it had been in the fridge for days. the "avocado dip" was just mashed up avocados. while we were eating, they continued to clean up (sweeping, mopping, stacking chairs, etc) continuing to make us feel very rushed. when we were finished with our dinner, we had to ask our waitress for the check twice. the check wasn't even the actual check out of the pads, it was a greasy piece of paper. used to be a great restaurant.

CASH ONLY!!!! NO ATM ON SITE!!! Nearest ATM on Colorado and 3rd/4th (less than 3 mins away). Was in town for work and decided to stop by here for dinner. I'm so glad I asked to be seated at the bar rather than sitting alone because I got a chance to chat with the jefe Robert. Drinks are so reasonable and strong (coming from Denver), and the food is delicious and reasonable as well. This is one of the few places that has food and also has drinks. Where do I begin? I love that this establishment has been around for a long time, was owned by Robert initially, he sold the business, and then bought it back a couple of years ago after his retirement. His wife/better half Mona is in charge in the kitchen. My first time having fideo (vermicelli) as a side item at a restaurant rather than friends' moms' home cooking. Not going to lie, the chips weren't anything special or stand out, but the salsa was delicious! Slightly spicy and chunky, just how I like it. The dinner plates are HOT! Don't touch it once they set it down, it really helps keep the yummy food hot. I had the #12, pork with avocado, it was kind of like an enchilada with tortilla rolled around the pork and avocado, topped with cheese and melted down by the heat. The food was well seasoned, and the sides with beans and fideo were both super tasty! I would just order the fideo by itself and eat a whole bowl of it, it was that good. I did not have the opportunity to get the sopapilla as it looked ginormous, but had I had more room in my tummy I would have ordered the sopa, it looked so tasty!!! The entire wait-staff were super nice and accommodating. Robert was extremely welcoming and shared stories of him growing up in the little town, as well as his travel stories with his wife on a Harley. I will definitely come back. The hours are like 11-2:30? and 5:30 - 8? Double check before you head down so it's for sure open for business, and always bring cash. :)

Had a great meal here. The food is great and so was the margarita. The vermicelli is excellent and I loved the salsa.

Good food, selection is small, but still quality. A little inconvenient that they don't accept debit or credit cards.

Friendly counter person - offered to help if we needed it. My husband enjoyed his ground beef…read moretacos. I ordered the chicken tacos, no cheese. I felt the chicken taste was off. Old? Seasonings used? They came with mostly no cheese but a couple of bits on the plate would have put a friend in to anaphylactic shock. Dietary restrictions are awful but restaurants need to pay heed to them

Mauricio's Tacos - La Junta, Colorado…read more My family and I tried Mauricios Tacos for the first time a few months ago. We had been curious about the place for years but never had the time to stop. Then, one night we were heading home from Pueblo, they were still open, and a fresh taco sounded great. Okay, maybe two tacos each to be honest. So we grabbed tacos to go so they had plenty of time to close at their leisure. I nearly told the gal to keep the tacos when I saw the price but when you need a taco, you need a taco. We were all pleasantly surprised by the size of the tacos, presentation with extras, and the taste. This was a stop we were going to plan for in advance from then on. The next time we stopped we ate inside the no frills but exceptionally clean restaurant. We had more tacos, rice, beans, and a chili relleno. It was really good yet again. Our plates were empty and so it was easy to scrape and stack them at their trash bins. And then there was today. We left home early to hit our new favorite guilty pleasure. The three of us spent $76 and change, with tip, for three plates. We all had the same #10, rice and beans with a beef burrito and a crispy beef taco. We all agreed that the taco was good, the rice and beans were...okay, and the burrito was as dry as the Sahara and just nasty. There was only a bit of dry shredded beef and a hint of cheese in a tortilla that was so dry it was painful to try to chew. My son wouldn't even eat. My mother ate to be polite. I ate what I could because I paid too much for the disappointment we had been served. As we ate we hardly spoke because of the volume of the dueling flat screen TVs having a Fox vs CNN showdown. We DID discuss that we didn't understand why we were being asked to tip when they only handed us food. I mean, what is the point. I tipped just because anymore you just have to wonder if you are risking a return if you don't comply. But I have to get our food, get the to-go box, scrap our plates and stack them at the trash. So, I went to the restroom and I returned I stood at the end of the table in order to wait for my son and handicapped mother to be ready to stand and leave with me. I hadn't grabbed the plates yet. (Why stand there with dirty dishes in hand just to wait?) My mother and I had discussed that if you tip you shouldn't have to do the dishes but it is not my way to leave them. That is when the female employee, who was talking with another table, haulted mid conversation to scold me. Yep, you read that right. She yelled (no exaggeration) across the way to me that I needed to scrape and stack our plates before I left. She was harsh and wore an angry expression as she berated me. I should add that I have ALWAYS been polite, even kind to her. When she stopped, and mind you she went on, I calmly informed her that we hadn't left yet and her behavior was not only premature but completely uncalled for. We were the customers, not employees. We were the guests, not unwelcome strangers. I am an adult, and not a badly mannered child. I feel bad for the table the female employee was standing with. They had to have felt so neglected when she cut them off. TIP is actually an acronym. It means To Insure Proper Service. There is no reason for Mauricio's employees to receive tips when they can't even behave properly in general. To that female: Shame on you for lowering yourself to act like a rabid dog. You did yourself and the business that employs you a disservice. Moral of the story might be to take the tacos, don't tip, and leave. WE will not return.
