Clever way to decommission every other booth during COVID19

BEST Mexican restaurant in Taylorsville period! BEST fajitas I've ever eaten period! I'm a Mexican food fiend, so of course, I know where to get the best Mexican food in the area! The specific area that I'm speaking of includes Charlotte, Statesville, Mooresville & Hickory and any of the small towns in between! I could comfortably go a little further and say, all of N.C. because I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants on my travels throughout the state and no fajitas come close to these! I always, always order mixed fajitas at Mexican restaurants because I feel it's the best bang for your buck and it's my favorite. I LOVE mixed fajitas, so I order the same here at Mexico Viejo. However, at this restaurant my preferred style of fajitas dish is called Fajitas Mexicanas and it is the mother of all fajitas dishes! Fajitas Mexicanas starts with a cheese filled Chile Relleno in the bottom of that cast iron skillet then the peppers, onions and ALL the meats are piled on top. When I say, ALL the meats, I really mean ALL the meats! Chicken, Steak, Shrimp, Scallops and Chorizo...I believe Chorizo just elevates any fajita dish and it definitely makes the Fajitas Mexicanas at Mexico Viejo! Well, that and the Chile Relleno! This dish is a MUST try & yes, it's worth the drive up from Charlotte! The interior here is upscale Mexican decor with wooden hand carved tables, booths and chairs. The walls are painted in a stucco style. It's quite the ambiance! And it's clean, too! The presentation of food takes it a step further with the cast iron fajita skillet bases, there's no wooden trivets here. Mexico Viejo has gone uptown with Lodge Rubber bases and handle covers. I absolutely LOVE them! Also, the cocktails are showstoppers! The hand painted Mexican pottery style drink mugs are beautiful! Staff are dressed in professional work attire with embroidered restaurant logos. It's really nice to see this attention to detail put into the restaurant's appearance. You can tell the owners care about this business! I'm pretty sure there is at least one other location closer to Hickory on 127. They have a Facebook page, too! Check them out online before you drive! I also like that this location offers a drive thru window for take out orders. They stay very busy with call in orders!

A little spot for some Mexican food with nice interior decor giving the feel of dining in some old cantina. It also happens to be one of the best actual restaurants in Taylorsville which seems more a mecca for fast food than sit down dining. Stopped by last night with Mom for an early-ish dinner. The food is amazingly fresh and flavorful. I don't usually go out for Mexican food a lot as I find many of the dishes heavy, but that really wasn't the case here. Everything was light and wonderfully seasoned. Wish there was some place back home that was this good. My Shrimp Enchiladas had the most delicate corn tortilla wrapped around tender shrimp and grilled peppers and onions (almost more fajita fixings than what I've had in enchiladas before). Then they were covered with a wonderful light Mole sauce that was the perfect complement. Served with tomato, lettuce, grated cheese and sour cream on the side - but these were absolutely perfect on their own with no dressing up needed. Just scooped up a little rice and a bite of enchilada and was in heaven. Mom got the #1 Combo - 2 cheese enchiladas and a beef taco (substituting beans for the rice). She enjoyed her enchiladas as much as I did mine. I noticed her taco had a generous portion of beef filling in it and that it was served on a separate plate so that the shell doesn't get soggy from the sauces for the other items. I did sample her beans to get a feel for how those were. It was pleasant to find the same care and attention had been given to them as they had a bit season to them and were a nice alternative to the rice. The rice was a bit dry, which is my preference, but not everyone will like that and the beans are very tasty. The food comes out very quickly after you order and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Oh and very quick with the drink refills - no worries of dying from dehydration here. Note: At 5:30pm you might have an issue getting Tamals as they weren't ready for dinner service yet.

    Great decor throughout

Yummy. First time here. 96 health rating. Great decor throughout. It's like a maze and bigger than what you think. The menu is extensive. Chef Ramsey would have a stroke. Lol. It has a full bar. I can't wait to go back and try different dishes.

    Arroz con Pollo

This is the first time I've ate here and I'm mad I didn't order from here sooner. Their food is SO good. Huge portions, affordable prices. I ordered Sopa de Mariscos which is actually a soup with shrimp, oysters, scallops, fish and mixed veggies and it was fantastic. I also ordered a classic chicken enchilada and Arroz con Pollo for my family and they absolutely loved it.

Margaritas at Mexico Viejo are really good. Staff friendly. The food is okay at best.

Not my favorite restaurant in Taylorsville, but they do have good frozen margaritas! I tried numerous meals that range from bland to just really bad. The chimichanga (beef) was horrible, tacos marginal, chips and salsa so-so, and enchiladas okay. Okay is about my highest rating for the food there. I really liked the sautéed camarones (shrimp) until I got sick on it one time. Can't eat that anymore. The staff are friendly and courteous. But, like I said the frozen margaritas are really good. Both stars to the margarita and staff.

Second visit and this has to be one step below taco bell. 45 minutes to get our food and then it was cold. Last time I will come here.

If you're looking for genuine authentic delicious awesome MEXICAN food, you won't find a better place for hundreds of miles. I lived in Wilkesboro for over 14 years and when this place opened we used to come here every week. I now live in Statesville and EVERY (I repeat EVERY) time that I come to Wilkes I make it a point to come here to eat. Their food is so amazing. Their people are so wonderful and serve you so well. The restaurant was moved to a new location years ago (this one now) and it's so beautiful inside and gives you the feel you are in Mexico. Their menu is full of amazing things. Their ACP (arez con pollo - aka Chicken and Rice and cheese) is to die for. Their tacos are so delicious. They have so many meats and flavors. And you must have their Horchata (which is a milky flavored drink from rice - reminds me of a snow cream taste and very sweet -- if you've never had one, try it and thank me later!!) Don't miss an opportunity to come here. I would rate it 10 out of 5 if I could. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world. Hands down.
