We have 3 (maybe 4) roosters, but most of them are acting very friendly towards me. I'm still very happy with the bantams they shipped me. They have clearly been bred for good temperaments; the roosters (besides Checkers, who is nice enough anyway) are acting more like hens, which I appreciate. We didn't end up getting any roosters for any breeds we only ordered one of, which is pretty awesome. They are also getting along very nicely with our older, larger chickens, and the broody hen is even protecting them from the bully chickens. Thank you, Meyer Hatchery! Meyer Hatchery has the best chicken selection! I've bought all of my hens from them. I love that I can shop thru a catalog either online or the old fashion way in my hands! My birds have all been healthy. They are beautiful and I'm ever so thankful that they are a short drive from my home. I personally wouldn't have chickens shipped because I don't trust the post office. When I go to Meyer Hatchery the staff are always very helpful and friendly. They even have "bargain bins" that contain late hatch chicks that are mystery breeds. Some are pretty obvious as to what they are if you know the breed well enough. I've found Polish and Lavender Opringtons in there. They were only $1!!! Which is a huge discount. Inside the store they have lots of various chicken needs and crazy chicken lady needs. I've bought house decor and children's book plus let's not forget chicken diapers! Haha! read more

Ordered 16 Barred Rock chicks. Hatched on the 6th, Meyer shipped on 7th. I paid for Priority shipping. Chicks arrived at post office on the 9th. We picked up immediately... all 16 chicks dead!!! Wife is on the phone now to get a refund (probably better her than me). read more

Purchased ten rare breeds. Was given a wrongly sexed chick. When I emailed the problem, I was told their policy is simply to refund the cost of the chick after sending proof that the bird was wrongly sexed. I emailed back to say this was unsatisfactory, as in order to get the breed that I ordered, I would have to incur another overnight postage fee even though the mistake was the hatcherys. I have had multiped orders where about half of the chicks died, even have head 100% arrive head and have had them ship me less than I ordered and not the breeds that I ordered. They will only ever replace chicks once. They do not like criticized and will blacklist you for asking for refund or posting a less savory review about their hatchery. I live in PA a state next to their hatchery and I usually reactive them 1 day after the chicks are born and they still most end up dead. I have not had this big of a quality problem with other hatchery. They simple don't care about you as customer or sadly the lives of their chicks read more

My issue isn't with the product, but with the business practices. Specifically that they won't stop contacting me with multiple e-mails after my request that they stop. When I say multiple, I mean CONSTANT harassment. On my first order I specifically requested no contact beyond the order and was assured that they would not put me on their mailing list. Later I contacted them by phone and asked to be removed, again assured I would be removed from contact lists. The "unsubscribe" at the bottom of their site doesn't work, either. And if I route their e-mails to spam, the site eventually comes up in my inbox anyway. read more

Chicks arrived sick. 1/3 died within 48 hours. Customer service rep advised a lot of customers were having problems with that shipment. Received refund for the chicks that died within 48 hours. Chicks continued dying with the same symptoms they arrived with. Contacted Meyer and requested refund. They refused and advised we should practice better biosecurity. Do not purchase from Meyer. They will not stand behind their product. I highly recommend Murray McMurray, or any other reputable supplier. read more

Came here to purchase some birds and had some questions was greeted by a 13-14 year old girl who had the biggest attitude about every question I had..... I asked what kind of birds they had in stock and she said "all kinds" I asked for a specific breed she said "I don't know let me get you a magazine" I said ok she came back and again I showed her what I wanted she said " I don't know" my husband asked what is the minimum amount of birds we can purchase and she said "I don't care" and proceeded to walk away roll her eyes. She finally came back again after 10 minutes of me and my husband standing there confused not knowing what to do (this was our first time here by the way) with an adult who proceeded to tell us they have a mix of birds they don't know what specific breeds they are because they are left overs so we just left. If you ever do come here you better know the answer to all those questions before because no one will help you. read more

I ordered 15 chicks in mid October. They shipped 2 weeks later like they said they would. I promptly contacted my Post Office and further communicated with them until they arrived. They all made it home safe and healthy. They are now with my other hens after the growing period. They are now adjusting to the big house. I do not understand these bad reviews. My experience was above satisfactory. All pullets like I ordered and no crowing. Bottom line, beginner chicken owners should buy from your local Co-op. Mail order is for the more experienced chicken owner. Also, order in small batches to ensure they are healthy when they arrive. Chicken farming is not for the weak. Be sure to read up and be knowledgeable before taking up this hobby. It is only fair to the chicks. read more

So I ordered 15 chicks a couple months ago from Meyer Hatchery. The chicks were left on my porch in the cold for over 20 - 30 minutes since the postal service sent them out with the carrier. We lost those chicks so Meyer sent out a replacement order of 10 chicks..my 4 original chicks, 2 cuckoo marans and 2 blue Andalusian ...and 6 roosters ( I had ordered surprise straight run for 11) to replace the 15 I lost. (No idea how they decided that 6 roosters would replace 11 straight run chicks but they did not have the original ones I ordered in) So they only replaced my $50 order with a less than $20 order...and these all arrived dead today. They should have been here yesterday but somehow took a day longer. Called them and they said they could not replace them..but could give me an 8% discount if I ordered more? Seriously? Ugh. I have ordered chicks from Meyer, Murray Mcmurray, Ideal, My pet Chicken, and Ideal Hatchery over the last 15 years. All of the hatcheries give great customer service and healthy chicks, except Meyer. I will never order from them again. I ordered and received 28 chicks from them the wek of December 12. One chick arrived very weak and we emailed them immediately that we did not think it would live. It died a few hours later. We advised them. First, they requested a picture of the dead chick. We sent it. Then they requested pictures of the shipping carton, all sides and the inside. We sent them. Then they requested pictures of our brooder and living chicks. We sent them. Then they informed us they couldn't count all the live chicks. Send more pictures. OVER ONE DEAD CHICK. You really packaged them well. I put them in my incubator on 8/3/17 and you know what?????? ALL 7 OF THEM HATCHED THE SAME DAY! They all hatched on 8/23/17. One day earlier than I expected. This is a 100% hatch rate from your company's eggs. I know the average is like about 60-70 percent hatch rate. I even built a coop outside to house no more than 4-5 chickens thinking I would lose some. But all are doing very well and I am now increasing the size of my coop to accommodate 7 full grown chickens. I will always speak well of your company and encourage others to buy from you. I placed an order for 50 of Leanne's adopt me chicks (hatchery choice) and 100 of the frying pan special (meat chicks, hatchery choice). The order process was smooth and simple. The chicks shipped when expected and arrived alive at the post office (I live in FL, so they traveled a great distance). I am very happy with my choice of hatchery and the entire process has been great. Meyer even shipped me 5 extra chicks. Out of 155, 151 have survived (the others were weak and overrun by their mates. After much research about the type of chicken I was interested in I knew Meyer was the place for me to order from. I ordered them on a Sunday and they were delivered to the post office on Wed. USPS did a horrible job with tracking, but I received all 15 chicks plus my one free meal maker alive. I wasn't sure what a meal maker was, as this was my first time ordering chicks. My kids were so excited to have 15 yellow chicks and one brown one that they named Brownie. I will order from them again. read more

I just got a call that 80 of my order didn't hatch, would I like a store credit? What? I've prepared for this flock all this time. I am miffed. Beware. Ideal is faster and gives much better service. My teenage daughter ordered 7 chicks this spring with her hard earned money. She only ordered ONLY hens and called to confirm. She has raised her chickens and they should be laying soon. Two of them are now crowing. My husband called Meyer to report this problem, and they will only refund $4 per chicken. We spent a LOT on shipping and food...now, there will be no eggs from at least 2 of these birds. VERY DISAPPOINTED & will never buy from this hatchery again. The only reason I give them 1 star is because that is the lowest rating there is. I understand that it is difficult to sex chicks, but when they make a mistake, they should make it right. I wanted to report my experience with Meyer Hatchery 2/2018. I ordered 10 Marans and 5 Buff Orpingtons. The chicks were shipped and received within 24 hours picked up at USPS 10:00 a.m. The outside temps were mid 60's no winds to speak of. Opening the box at home I noticed the 2 white Maran females and the 2 Blue Copper Maran females and 2 Blue Copper Maran females were VERY TINY. The Orpingtons seemed small but I had never experienced that breed. Chicks were placed in NEW brooder with 97* readings on heat lamp, puppy pads on brooder floor, Medicated starter and supplements. I ordered GroGel, probiotics/electrolytes/vitamin packs and prepared Grogel immediately presenting to the chicks - prepared water with filtered spring water room temp with feeder filled with medicated crumble. One of the white Marans was listless and would not take Grogel, water or food. That bird died by end of day. The next morning the other white Marans died. I notified Meyer, they refunded the $23 for the birds. I told them my concerns with the frail/listless condition of the 4 Blue Copper Marans. Over the course of the first week, 2 white Marans, 4 Blue Copper Marans and 1 Golden Cucko Marans femal and all five Orpington were dead. Folks that 11 chicks out of 15 dead within the first week. After the first two losses, I mixed up an ACV in second water in the brooder. Those birds failed to thrive while one Black Copper Marans male, one Golden Cuckoo Marans and one meal maker (?) have survived. Clearly Meyer mailed chicks infected with coccidiosis. I cancelled other orders with two other sources because I didn't want to loose those chicks. I wrote to Meyer expressing all this. Their response is they don't refund chicks older than 48 hrs, directed me to a book that covered coccidiosis and basically told me to pound sand. This is clearly the wrong customer service response. I plan to challenge the $197 credit card charge and will post this on all forums. Order from Meyer at your own risk. They completely failed to step up to a problem that rests solely on their hands read more

I will never buy from this hatchery again. We are in the process of setting up a large sustainable chicken operation of which we will buy at least 1000 chickens next year. I purchased 24 chicks in February of this year. They were to be all female. After feeding them organic feed for 4 months, we saw that 4 of the chickens were roosters. We have a test group set up to buy the eggs and evaluate them. Having 4 roosters messed up our test group. I called Meyers Hatchery and asked that I receive 4 pullets to replace the 4 roosters as Meyers Hatchery's mistake was causing problems in not having enough eggs for our test group. After approximately 8 conversations, I was informed that they would only give me a credit of approximately $11 (the value of the day old chicks). Meyer's Hatchery admitted they had made the mistake. They are not the only game in town and they are certainly not the cheapest. We will not deal with a hatchery that treats their customers like this especially when it was their mistake. read more
