I had walked by this little place many times and always wondered if it were any good...well today was the day to give it actually a try...and boy am I glad I did!!! The Today's special sign on the street had actually lured me in: Vegetable Moussaka. I figured, since I make the best meat moussaka in the whole wide world, I might as well get inspired by some vegetable moussaka...and boy did I get inspired!!! There were only a few other customers in the restaurant and I thus had the waiter's full attention. In fact, the service that I received here was so attentive and so friendly that even a high-end restaurant could learn from them: the waiter changed the cutlery, refilled my water, served the plate facing the right way, offered condiments...etc. But I am digressing...anyway, I ordered the Tabbouleh Salad as a starter and that was already pretty awesome. I mean, it's a rather standard dish, yet the ingredients were well balanced: it had a nice zest to it and the pita bread that was served with it was smooth and delicious. Then I got my moussaka...and believe me I prayed for it to be as good as the previous experience...and boy did my prayers work! Seriously, the moussaka was the best I've ever had (aside from my meat moussaka, of course). The eggplant was melting on my tongue and the bechamel/cheese sauce was heavenly as well. The waiter offered my some chilli-sauce on the side, which I happily stirred into my rice - and I had yet to experience yet another culinary climax! Well, sitting there all by myself, I had also the leisure of watching the waiter prepare a couple of coffee drinks. And I was positively surprised has how well he prepared the Latte Macchiato...very carefully did he first pour steamed hot milk, topped it off with some foam and only then did he actually - very carefully - pour the espresso into the glass; the end-result was a perfectly three-tiered Latte - the way it is supposed to be served if I were to rule the world. (Only the straw was missing!) Alright, enough said...but just to reemphasise how much I liked this restaurant: my throbbing headache, which I suffered from upon entering the establishment, had vanished by the time the check came...a mere £10.90! ...boy am I glad I came here!!!

There is always that element of risk, seemingly more so the further away you go from Dalston. It's always a lovely surprise therefore when you find a really high quality and innovative Turkish menu in the depths of North London. The Adana wrap is delicious. Sometimes pita bread is too much! A lighter surrounding makes the whole thing more moreish. I could literally eat about five. The service is friendly and warm, and there is a good range of specials at reasonable prices. The decor isn't too bad either. Although still not up to some of the legendary Dalston Turkish grills, this is still a surpisingly good restaurant in a surprising location. Do not underestimate the power of the Adana wrap.

But let me tell you...this is SO much more than just another kebab shop! I wish I could tell you what we ordered, but I can't. Mine was a stewed lamb atop hot bits of pita and slathered in their house sauce (like sour cream.) Oh good lawd IT WAS SO GOOD! Also equally delish was the hummus and pita. Service was super, food was amazing. Do yourself a favor and visit! I wish we were locals so we could eat our way through the entire menu. P.S. OMG! So much food…read more Between the 2 of us, we ordered 1 main course (iskander kebab) and 3 starters (sausages, imam bayildi - stuffed aubergine and falafel). The food was all super tasty, but we had so much leftover! Both of us had skipped lunch and were having early dinner, but we barely put a dent on the amount of food that arrived. As soon as we ordered, we were brought Turkish style bread lovingly buttered and 4 different dips (hummus, minty yoghurt, cheese and a tomato one). This itself would have been a sufficient meal for us both. The falafel came settled on a bowl of hummus. The side salad with the main arrived in a plate of its own. Service was very fast and the lady serving us was lovely as were the line of chefs we passed by on our way in and out. When you peep through he window, it looks like a tiny kebab place, but they have really comfortable seating at the back. Some of the other places we wanted to eat at in Camden on a Friday night were completely full, so we entered this place on a whim, but left completely dated and satisfied.

This was my first experience with Turkish food, and that's one thing I enjoy about London is the wide variety of international dining. We started off with some of the freshest pita I've had, accompanied by a humongous bowl of creamy tzatziki sauce. For the app, the family shared a Karisik meze cold appetizer sampler. Our entrees were centered on doner (lamb). We had the Yaprak Doner (shredded lamb served with rice), Betyi (seasoned spicy lamb served on a skewer on top of pita and served with fresh vegetables), and mixed doner (shredded chicken and lamb). With all 3 dishes, the meat was fresh, moist, and delicious. The server was very friendly and accomodating (I think he was smitten with my daughter, but in a nice way). I'd also mention that, across the street, Likya also had a smaller branch, more of a bakery. They have a lady who before your eyes, prepares gozleme from scratch at a preparation station. I tried the one with cheese and spinach and it was delicious. For my Miami peeps, I'd equate a gozleme with an empanada. We were stuffed, but we also got excellent chocolate baklava to go back to the apartment with. All in all, I enjoyed my Turkish dining experience with Likya!

So, when our dinner plans fell through one night we decided to wander over to the station and find it. It turns out there are several kebab shops...so we tried this one as it looked the most authentic and least greasy. My boyfriend and I tried the lamb and chicken shish kebabs, which come wrapped in gooorgeous soft Turkish bread. I can't remember or pronounce any of the names of the dishes, but my brother's girlfriend tried the lamb and aubergine dish, which looked lovely (and came with a huge pile of rice, bread and salad!) My little bro' wanted the döner kebab, and he said it was the best he had tried for ages. I had a peek at the main menu...and am now really keen to come back, as long as I can work out how to pronounce things! *They had some naturally gluten free and vegetarian options as well.

Kusadasi may be overlooked as a standard kebab shop at first, but it is far far more, boasting a huge menu filled with delicious food. The kebab and rice dishes are all great, served with a really nice sauce. My personal favourite are the wraps, which are enormous, packed with meat and veg - all of which tastes fantastic. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

They are known for their open fire charcoal grill, and perhaps it's a bit unfair that I didn't have something from the grill, but here are my two cents on the mezze, etc. We started with the mixed mezze plate, which comes with 2 dolmas, hummus, tomato/eggplant spread, tomatoey tabbouleh, taramasala (sp?), 3 types of yogurts (spinach, tzaziki, and another), and tomato-stewed white beans. The hummus and various yogurt dips were outstanding--excellent flavors and textures. The beans and tomato tabbouleh were quite nice as well. For din my companion went for the grilled quail, which comes with 2 quail, roasted tomatoes and chili peppers, and a nicely sized salad w/ grated carrots and beets. I didn't sample, but he cleaned all bones that were to be cleaned, so suffice it to say, he ate well. I ordered more mezze for din b/c we had had a heavier lunch (dim sum and then an orgiastic chocolate feast at hampstead creperie!), and I think that this was my mistake. I ordered regular tabbouleh, but it was strangely sweet--I think there were peppers in it or something, but it was actually unpleasant. The hummus (round 2) was still strong and mushroom/mint salad was decent--needed flavor, despite the promised mint. Accidentally ordered more of the eggplant/tomato, which was also a mistake--not that it was bad...I just didn't need that much oil! Overall, I do think that this is a good restaurant, they have some kinks in service to work out, but it's really the grill that one should go for--I'd take veggies elsewhere (although there are more vegetarian options than it first appears when you walk in and are greeted by a meat case).

This is what I like about this place: - I received the warmest welcome. I don't think I've ever walked into a kebab/döner shop where someone greeted me with a smile! Amazing experience... - I love the simplicity of the menu: chicken, lamb, köfte, or shawarma in a wrap or in pita wrap. That's it - no endless studying of the menu. - The taste of the food...I ordered the chicken wrap and it was delightful. A quick scan of the menu we had been recommended to choose around five dishes, including a dip or two, a couple of meat dishes and a salad. Naturally we went for a bit more than suggested, because by this stage no food seemed like it could be enough - but we restrained from ordering everything, which I felt was good of us. The houmous and melin tzanosalata to you and I that's: roasted aubergine, tomato , garlic olive oil and lemon dip came with fresh toasted pita - apparently delicious, but I requested something non-glutenous and some refreshing cucumber fit the bill. Oh and wine - let's not forget the wine. The restaurant itself it simple, but extremely welcoming and was buzzing with chatter and evidently very happy guests. The wine was going down a treat, but we were clearly looking starved and assured our food would be coming out as soon as each dish was cooked - that's how small plates work and we were happy to wait. But shortly they arrived in their individual glory - coal grilled asparagus with kefalotiri - that's a delicate cheese, and who doesn't like cheese, on everything? Keftedes next, these are a generously sized mixture of minced pork, spices and potato fried in little balls. But it's not over yet, here goes the charcoal grilled lamb... I know, I know.. I'm hungry all over again. Greek baklava - layers of filo pastry, syrup honey and chopped nuts We mentioned thrice how sweet it is and by the fourth consideration of its intensity we'd demolished the lot . They have a nice outside seating area that was closed, and the demographic in the restaurant was a bit over middle aged. That didn't bother us much, the food was very good, I particularly enjoyed the sausages and happily dipped them and my pitta in the tzatziki sauce. 3 things that bothered me about Carob tree were that the vibe resembles more a posh english restaurant (even with the faint greek music in the background), the fact that the bottled water we ordered was room temperature (if you know me, you know how much that infuriates me) and the worst thing was that we saw the other tables getting their complimentary baclava dessert but a plate never reached our table! :( Overall it was a lovely meal, if you want something quiet and don't mind paying for the privilege.
