Ate here a couple of weeks ago and was extremely disappointed. They load up on fries instead of good portions of meat.

Review Highlights - Mezza Lebanese Kitchen

Not a huge amount of quick vegetarian options around Cole Harbour, so I was overjoyed when they opened.

I am particular how I like my omelet but they got it right. The have breakfast sandwich too. Potatoes fries is tasty. Tried their chicken shawarma and it was amazing. Hummus is delicious. Phew, talking about this sort of stuff really does make you feel better! Now that they're back and only a few minutes away from both my office and apartment, I put PG's v2 on my list of places to hit. Back on a weekday day shift for the first time in nearly a month and with the sun making for a warm walk, I decided that it was the perfect day to break my PG's cherry. Going there slightly early to beat the lunch rush, half of their handful of tables were occupied, a good sign for a Monday. I had heard from a couple of my co-workers that the chicken skewers were a good choice, so I got an order of those along with rice and Greek salad on the side to go. After a bit of friendly chatter with the staff, my skewers were soon off the grill and I was on my way back to the office with a full container of food at a very reasonable price. Plopping down at my desk, I was ready to dive into my meal. The two chicken skewers were tender and moist and had a nice Mediterranean flavour to it. Naturally, I mixed some of the chicken in with my rice, along with some tzatsiki. Fantastic. I got the first serving of their batch of Greek salad, so it was loaded with salty feta, along with cucumber, romaine and tomato, it made for a very fresh tasting, light lunch. I'm looking forward to more lunchtime visits to PG's to try their burger and lasagna, and to try to make amends for my past shame by stuffing my face with their delicious eats.

Like most office building spots, Castello is a straight up lunch place. There's several tables for civil servants to get away from their cubicles at, with a main counter that you line up at and choose your food with the aid of the menu on the back wall or the pile of food in trays before you. There's always a few different salads, rice and pasta dishes as well as mains that vary from day to day such as lasagna, roasted quarter chicken, fried fish and even salmon when I stopped by most recently. The one thing holding them back from 4-star territory is that they microwave anything that needs reheating, which doesn't do justice to nearly all foods. You can order various cooked-to-order breakfast foods and grill items like burgers however. A couple of my favourite things to order on my regular visits are the falafel and kibbe wraps. Warm and moist falafel or kibbe get broken up and put in what must be at least 12" wide pitas, absolutely stuffed with lettuce, tomato, pickles and banana peppers with as much tahini as you desire, which in my case is a pretty generous amount. Either one you get is going to be a winner, and I suggest that if you get one for lunch, have half now and the other half later in the afternoon or for dinner, otherwise you will be seriously full and risk falling asleep at your desk. The kibbe are also really good just as a platter, with rice and your choice of salad. Oh, and did I mention that this delicious gut buster will set you back a mere $8? Yup. Leave them the toonie, they deserve it. The family that runs this place is super friendly, and you'll be seriously challenged to spend more than $10 on the very decent food here, so pop down the alley for lunch.

So fresh and the sauced to go along with it were amazing. Club house sandwich is massive and amazing. Fish and chips are great. Their fries are some of the best I've ever had. Every meal is around $7-8. So worth it. Great place for sure.

The location is befitting that of a lunch joint, and I like that they're sticking it to the likes of Subway which is next door in this little strip mall on Robie Street. It's a pretty casual spot with the main counter and open kitchen running the length of the back of the restaurant. Mismatched chairs and tables sit somewhere in the 30s, mostly at two-person tables for the lunch crowd. After surveying the menu above the counter, pictures and prices included, I inquired about the "half and half" plate I had read about online and saw above me. It came highly recommended and came with two proteins, beef and their chicken shawarma. It wasn't cheap for lunch at nearly $14, but the one being made in front of me for someone else looked hefty and well worth so I went with it, grabbing an iced tea from the cooler to have while I waited. With there only being a trickle of other customers at this point, my order was soon called out and I went back up to grab it and upon seeing it knew that my first meal of the day would keep me full for a while. It was loaded with strips of shredded beef and onions, the chicken was surprisingly hunks of meat instead of shaved pieces of meat, curry rice, salad, pita, hummus and tzatziki. The shawarma was a different take than I'm used to but it was definitely good, being tender and moist and with a light flavour from the marinade. The beef wasn't quite as good unfortunately, and although it had great browning and a big garlicky hit, some bits were over cooked and a bit chewy. The salad was like a Lebanese version of a garden salad with big pieces of tomato, cucumber, celery, green pepper, onion, pickled beets and lettuce, with a moderate dose of parsley and a light dressing. Everything was fresh and crispy, even the lettuce for being well out of season, and the dressing added a nice bit of zip to it. While it wasn't ground breaking, the curry rice was a vibrant yellow and had a enjoyable curry flavour, minus the spice typically associated with curried dishes. I really enjoyed the tzatziki, which had a noticeable cucumber flavour to it, which is a refreshing contrast to the blander store-bought versions I'm used to. The hummus wasn't as much up my alley as it wasn't as smooth as I like my hummus to be, but it did carry on the garlic-heavy theme of this place, which I didn't mind. Paying (in cash, as you must) on my way out, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and found myself wishing that other places in the city had meals like this one.
