A hidden gem in downtown Halifax. Good breakfast since everything is made fresh to taste. You have to wait for them to prepare the food which is worth it. I am particular how I like my omelet but they got it right. The have breakfast sandwich too. Potatoes fries is tasty. Tried their chicken shawarma and it was amazing. Hummus is delicious. I'm going to have a shameful admission here: despite working multiple jobs within walking distance of PG's former location at Scotia Square, I had never eaten there. Phew, talking about this sort of stuff really does make you feel better! Now that they're back and only a few minutes away from both my office and apartment, I put PG's v2 on my list of places to hit. Back on a weekday day shift for the first time in nearly a month and with the sun making for a warm walk, I decided that it was the perfect day to break my PG's cherry. Going there slightly early to beat the lunch rush, half of their handful of tables were occupied, a good sign for a Monday. I had heard from a couple of my co-workers that the chicken skewers were a good choice, so I got an order of those along with rice and Greek salad on the side to go. After a bit of friendly chatter with the staff, my skewers were soon off the grill and I was on my way back to the office with a full container of food at a very reasonable price. Plopping down at my desk, I was ready to dive into my meal. The two chicken skewers were tender and moist and had a nice Mediterranean flavour to it. Naturally, I mixed some of the chicken in with my rice, along with some tzatsiki. Fantastic. I got the first serving of their batch of Greek salad, so it was loaded with salty feta, along with cucumber, romaine and tomato, it made for a very fresh tasting, light lunch. I'm looking forward to more lunchtime visits to PG's to try their burger and lasagna, and to try to make amends for my past shame by stuffing my face with their delicious eats. read more

First off, I was a huge fan of their's when they were a part of Scotia Square's food court, sadly they were not included with the revamp update there. They had these wonderful meat pockets and their fries, had them whenever possible had a huge line as well. When they left, the food court lost something. I thought they were gone for good, but later on, I found they had opened a cafe on Hollis st. Sadly the hot pocket is gone, but everything else is the same but in a quiet cafe setting, other than the occasional big truck rumbling by. I love their steak sub, a good basic tasty sub and their home fries, the breakfast prices are reasonable, in fact all the menu are well priced. I just wish the pockets were back. read more

Definitely a place to keep in your back pocket when you need a good cheap place to grab brunch! I never knew this place existed until a friend of mine told me about it last week. We decided we try out on the weekend for breakfast as his co-workers are always talking about it. Tried here for a couple of Saturday morning breakfasts by myself over the summer around 9am or so...it can be hard to get street parking so usually requires a couple of drives around the block, so unless you live nearby, I'd recommend earlier than later in the morning. The cafe wasn't busy either of my visits though. There are a handful of tables, and it's very basic, where you order at the counter and they will bring to your table, you pour your own coffee, etc. Very friendly staff/management, who I assume run it, a man one visit, a woman the next. I tried the veggie omelet (5.49 I think?) one time, which was standard, and the second time, their breakfast of two eggs, bacon, toast & home fries (5.75). The home fries are seasoned and delicious. The prices are dirt cheap as you can see, so I'd like to come back to try their lunch someday. read more

I love this place! Its right down the street from my work. I used to go there several times a week but I've been a good girl packing my lunch lately. Chicken skewer place is amazing. Greek salad with tons of feta on it, rice and 2 chicken skewers. Burger is so moist and flavourful, fries are also great. Chicken shwarama isn't a classic shwarama plate but still great. It comes with quarter pita, hummus, greek salad, rice, and chicken. The chicken has a great seasoning on it. That's all I've had so far but they also have a reasonably priced breakfast. read more

PG's used to be in Scotia Square and I was so sad when they were shoved out of the food court due to renovations. I was ELATED to discover it on Hollis St ... and even better, with seating! They have what I consider the best home cooked food in any restaurant Halifax. Everything is made from scratch. Their chicken skewers are awesome, as is their CLUB SANDWICH. I was very excited to try this place after reading all the positive Yelp reviews. However, I must say that I was a little let down. Inside isn't anything fancy in terms of decor. It's similar to a fast food joint- you order at the counter and bring food back to your table and pay when you leave. Coffee is self serve. Java Blend I believe? It was delicious! Food took about 5 minutes. I ordered a bagel breakfast sandwich meal. Honestly, it was pretty lack lustre. The bagel was tough and under-toasted making it difficult the eat. I hate to criticize the bagels too, because a previous Yelp review on this business indicates they get their bagels from a local supplier- which I love to support! Home fries were not served with my sandwich. I was told I had to request them, despite my pointing to the menu item precisely indicating meal. When I did receive home fries they tasted like they had been sprinkled with sand. Quite bizarre. With the exception of the weird ordering experience service was satisfactory. Mid-meal when I went to the cash to grab and orange juice, it took some time before I could grab someone's attention. Lastly, after leaving, our party of 6 noticed that the bills were not reflective of the prices on the menu. They were slightly more expensive. Still cheap and reasonably priced, but odd. Overall, the space could use a "spruce-up." Food could be improved on a few fronts. Perhaps there could be a third staff member on, the menu prices need to be adjusted (that just doesn't seem like affair business practise). However prices were so reasonable and that is what garnered so many stars for my review. Overall, I'd recommend it if you're looking for a low-key cheap place. And based on the coffee and prices alone, I'd probably re-visit. read more

A hidden gem in plain sight, this small, family run restaurant is just what the doctor ordered. (The previous night was the beer festival). Made to order eggs, ham/bacon/sausage and toast, plus fried spuds robs you of around $5. Good coffee and a wide selection of soft drinks round off the menu in a clean, functional room with room for perhaps 20 covers. If you're in that end of town, and in recovery mode of a morning, this is the ideal spot. read more

I have been meaning to check this place out for some time and am really happy that I finally did today! For lunch I had chicken platter, which includes chicken on rice, Greek salad, pita bread and hummus. It was delicious, reminded me my favorite chicken dish by The Halal Guys in Manhattan. There was no paper towel in the washroom and it felt like it could have been a bit cleaner but it was late in the day so maybe things were a bit hectic that day. The food was pretty good, nothing you can't get anywhere else; however, I am a celiac and had explicitly inquired about gluten free bread, which they indicated they had. Now, I'm not sure if it's because of cost and the woman thought I was one of those people that do it for a fad but she put regular bread on my plate and I informed her that no this was incorrect so she took it off the plate and got me the gluten free alternative with not a very warm attitude and I think my food got cross contaminated because my stomach has had a rough go. The breakfast is as good as anywhere else and the price is reasonable but it would be highly appreciated if the people working there were a little more sensitive to the needs of their customers because a breakfast has thrown me off for the whole day now. read more

This is one of my favourite places to pop in and have lunch. I go nearly every week and the affordable prices on everything makes it that much more attractive. The staff is all really friendly and make the food right in front of you in their grill area. They've got a great menu and it even has some vegetarian choices for all you vegans out there. No AC, messy tables that weren't cleaned for probably half an hour. Food was decent, cheap, and the person working there customized my breakfast order gracefully. Had to wait awhile, though I wasn't in a hurry. Fortunately a table opened up that was relatively clean just before my food showed up.
