I went on 5/9/25 for a 90 minute Mother's Day massage my husband bought for me. There is a package of 2 for Mother's Day and I am so traumatized by the experience that I won't be going back. I had Josie as my masseuse and she came in the room like a whirl wind. She seemed really anxious and continued to rush through the whole massage. She was grabbing, pulling my limbs and was really rough. I had to ask her twice to be gentle. It was very hard to communicate with her since she had a heavy accent. When I went to check out the young girls in the front didn't ask me how the service was and kept talking to each other on how "overstimulated" they were. The next day I had bruises all over my legs, and I don't bruise easily. I came out so anxious and will not be returning again. read more

If I could give them 10 stars I would! I've been to this place a few times and the staff is amazing from the front desk to the massage therapists. The vibe is different from your regular chain massage place but it's very relaxing! And it's nice that even though they have a VIP membership they don't pressure you like most places to sign up!! The thing that bothers me is that the special was through this website but they wouldn't take the Spa Finder Gift Certificate I had. Went here for a facial before my wedding with a living social deal. They gave me a lower leg and foot massage gratis. The massage was very good, otherwise this would be a 1 star review. The decor is sort of Native American inspired, but with a liberal dose of country cottage thrown in--I didn't like it, but I wasn't there for the decor. The massage was good, not a deep tissue massage, but I didnt want that. It was just the right amount of pressure. While steaming for my facial the ambient music/relaxation noises were kinda the opposite, but even that was ok. The facial was ALMOST a 5 star. Afterwards, the majority of my pores never looked better, and my face litterally glowed for my wedding day. (The wedding was 2.5 weeks after the facial--fortunately, as it turns out). However, I had 3 small allergy bumps on my right cheek. I didnt mention them, because they are hardly an uncommon skin condition, and I assumed the esthetician would know how to deal with them. I guess she assumed they were acne, cause she was really digging away at them with her nails--harder and harder! I eventually asked her to stop, but she continued for a bit, before I had to tell her to stop. Within 30 minutes of me leaving, my whole right cheek was horribly swollen, red and raw. Over the course of the next few days, the swelling went down, but the skin was so stressed that it started to scale and flake, like a sunburn. I was petrified that it wouldn't heal before the wedding, but fortunately, I had left enough time so it did. Aside from that, the facial was great and very long-lasting. I would have gone back, but I am afraid of the esthetician's inexperience. One final note: Mezzaluna is nearly impossible to find! There is no direct access from the street it is technically "on" (based on their street address), and you have to drive around on a side street and enter the back of a parking lot to get there. read more

Entering Mezzaluna Day Spa I was immediately transported to another world. Unfortunately, it's not a world I want to spend much time in. To be fair, I visited several years ago so hopefully they've invested in some light bulbs by now. Mezzaluna is dark and cramped and cave-like...this is dreary and depressing to me, not relaxing. It's painfully over-decorated in Native American tchotkes: Navajo blankets, dream catchers and turquoise abound. Were Native Americans massage experts or something? I'm still trying to make the connection. The murky hallways are so narrow I had to hug the wall to avoid bumping into a half-naked gentleman on his way from the shower to his designated Room of Sadness. Anyway, I got the half-hour facial/half-hour massage package. The massage was the highlight. I've had better and I've had worse, but as massages go this was a pretty good one. I'm saving most of my scorn for the "facial". I'm sort of an expert on facials....I've gotten one almost every month for 15 years from lots of different estheticians, so I know a good one from a bad one. This one? Bad. After a desultory cleansing and half-hearted extractions, the "esthetician" slapped some sort of mud mask on my face and left. For like 10 minutes. One sign of a good facial is that the facialist rarely - if ever - leaves the room. After they apply the mask, 99.9% of the time they will then give you a 10-15 minute shoulder and arm massage. You should never be left alone for more than a minute or two. I lay in the dark, desolate room, alone and seething. The creepy dream catcher twisting in the corner didn't help my mood. Miss "I-Am-Too-Good-To-Be-Doing-This" eventually returned, removed the mask and exited without a word. I couldn't wait to get out of there....happily walking outside into sunshine and...LIGHT. read more

I normally go somewhere else but got a really good groupon for a facial. The things this spa doesn't have that others do is a locker room, drinks and snacks and the girl at the desk took a personal call right in front of me and 2 others. My facial was pretty bad! I was getting so much anxiety bc the girl was rushing and going so fast that I couldn't possibly relax. She didn't even suggest different things for my sensitive skin so not sure what was used. The massage part was just as horrible and rushed and a lot of ear tugging!?!? I was left alone for 5 minutes and felt a very creepy vibe and just wanted to get out! I've had several massages here and the past few times the massage was terrible. I went on a monday night. I seem to have the same girl each time, I dont recall her name but it was terrible. I was going to tell them at Mezzaluna because I didn;t think she should be working there. I never had a chance to write a review at the time (winter 2011-12), I don't know if she still works there but I hope for there sake, she doesn't. I received a gift certificate for a 75 minute treatment as a thank you gift from my daughter. Unfortunately I forgot to use it. I recently discovered it and it's funds had expired 20 days earlier. When I called I was told that there was nothing that they could do about it. I would have been happy with half the value instead of loosing the $100 that it had cost. I think that it was bad business on their part. My daughter called and spoke with another person. She was told that the full value of the gift certificate would be honored. I believe I was the last appointment of the evening and when my massage was over, I was completely disappointed. When I left the room, the only person I could find was the receptionist sitting at the front desk. She mentioned that the masseuse had left! I found that my masseuse overly worked in some areas and missed others, such as my feet and lower back. The natural flow of the message wasn't there, no centering, a rushed feeling, moments that she was either tired (loud yawning) or had challenges adding pressure. Oh how I wanted to love this place....so bad. It's so cute when you first walk in. The older woman in the front was very friendly! Anyway, I just finished a facial there and during the time you have a mask on someone is usually massaging your hands or your feet or using essential oils to relax you but she sat there texting on her phone instead when I looked up... when I was finished she patted me on the shoulder and said I'm done and to take my time getting dressed which was very nice, I then got dressed and walked out and my aesthetician wasn't there I walk to the front the girl asked me what's your name again... she wasn't my aesthetician either and still she was nowhere to be found. I was waiting for her to come out and maybe suggest some things that I should use but still she never came out. Super unprofessional. Big waste of 90 dollars plus tipping her. I told Megan (the woman who does facials) that I was getting married in a week. She was extra gentle on my skin, and my skin looked amazing the day of my wedding. This spa is clean, friendly, and relaxing. They run specials throughout the year for different services. It's clean, the Native American decor is unique and the music played is so soothing and different from other spas. Prices are reasonable and you can't beat the specials!!Since I'm getting married in 3 months, I've found time to start my Bridal Regiment. The receptionist was very knowledgable and helpful. As I waited, since I was early, she was friendly as well. My facial was first, Meghan is amazing. She took her time, made sure I felt comfortable and made it a very relaxing experience. I was glowing and my face has never looked so good!! For the massage, I had Katie. Another amazing experience. She was great! She asked questions about my work-outs, work, sleeping patterns, headaches and stress level. She was able to work on everything, other places I've been to before, they ask you and never address your issues. Katie certainly did!! Both ladies were on the same page with my return and how many times needed up until my wedding day. Of course, I've already made my next appointment and will be making one more before the big day. I recently had a deep tissue massage here, which was given by Nubia. I am pretty picky about massages, and this one was pretty darn good. She listened to all my requests (for example, that I prefer a lot of pressure), made sure I was comfortable, and didn't try to chat with me when I wasn't in the mood. This place also has table with removable pieces for pregnant women. The place was clean (including the bathroom), I had no issue with the lighting in the room I used, and my massage was not cut short of the full hour. I've been going here for almost 15 years and I've never had anything less then perfect. Great massages and the one facial I got was really nice. Everyone said my skin looked amazing for days. I see many reviews about the decor and people not liking it. I can say this because I'm bergen county born and raised. It's not fancy and sterile looking enough for all the bergen county snobs who want it to be all marble and stone and cold icy colors. I lived in Arizona for 2 years and going to the mezzaluna transports me back to the amazing spiritual, relaxing feeling you feel out there and it's so.nice so nice to experience that after coming back to this incredibly unspiritual area. I suggest some of these people travel a little and see what the rest of their country is like before hating on such an interesting decor. If you want fluorescent lights and big cold rooms go to massage envy or the fountain where half your appointment is spent trying to be talked into buying a membership. read more

BEWARE. Just learned today from a very "stern" front desk person that they only have one (1) facial therapist. We bought 3 message/facial packages and was told first that they are busy on Saturday, when asked when they can accommodate 3 people - Friday, Monday? The truth finally came out that they only have 1 facial person ALL THE TIME so it does not matter when we make the appointment, one of us will always wind up waiting an hour (or so) for the facial therapist. This explains the bad reviews about the facials from this place. The therapist RUSHES through the service because she/he is only one person for the entire place. They do not have more than 1 facial therapist to accommodate their clients - yet they keep pumping these deals! P.S. The so-called DEAL from this place allowed a person to buy up to 3 offers. So they know fully well that someone can potentially walk in with 2 other people. Yet they know they CANNOT handle a group of 3 without the inconvenience of making someone from your party wait an hour or more. That should be in the FINE PRINT of the offer. read more

I have been going to Mezzaluna periodically over the past few years for massages. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff who has always been very nice. I have been to other day spas where I feel as if they are always just trying to sell you stuff and push more services on you. I have never felt that way at Mezzaluna. The massages have always been great. Total relaxation. The decor and ambiance are terrific. I love the Native American inspired decor and the music that plays in the background. This place was an adorable oasis tucked away off a main road. The southwestern decor was cute and gave them a unique look. The staff was very friendly and professional. I used spafinder gift certificates and took advantage of specials offered on Mondays (and Tuesdays). I had a 1/2 hour facial which was very thorough and Meghan gave me many free samples of the line used at the spa. The 1 hr massage with Amanda was also very good. In the past, I have spent quite a bit of money on massages and some of them have been great and some have been not so great. I don't really get massages often (twice maybe three times a year) so when I book them, I want them to be good and worth my money. I found Mezzaluna Day Spa to be a clean, quaint, moderately priced spa with all of the amenities needed to have a spa day. It's not a large building with chandeliers and 30 different rooms so don't expect that. I felt comfortable when I got there. The staff was very nice and friendly which to me is VERY important. (Can't stand rude staff at a place of business). My massage was great. Amanda was wonderful and listened to my needs. I also had a facial with Meghan. It was a bit rough for my taste but I didn't say anything. We gotta speak up ladies (and gents)! If you don't like a rough/tough massage or facial, SAY SOMETHING.
