The food at Mezze on the River tastes good but the service is a bit of a mess. The person I was dining with didn't receive their drink until they followed up, and then it was well into the meal. They ordered a plain burger (no cheese or toppings) but an unmodified burger was brought out. When we could get someone's attention about this, they brought it back to the kitchen, then returned 15 minutes later with a cheeseburger (not the plain burger), so we had to wait another 15 minutes for what they ordered. In the meantime, my steak had gotten cold waiting for them, and the sauce I had ordered with it also wasn't brought until I followed up and waited a while. Once the burger finally arrived, it took ages to get ketchup (which was requested earlier in the evening). The people sat at the table next to us didn't receive their drinks either, and had to request they remove them from the bill. I nearly fell asleep waiting for the check and then for them to swipe my card, so we were there far longer than anticipated. Despite the apologies from the staff for the number of errors that affected the meal, they didn't so much as comp the $7 soda they took 40 minutes to bring out. The food itself was good (when it finally arrived), but the experience was disjointed and chaotic, making it not worth the price paid. read more

My mom, a good friend and I came here for brunch on a summer Saturday afternoon. Our reservation was at noon right around the same time the restaurant was about to open. Our reservation was for 90 minutes and oh my we had such a gorgeous view of the Hudson River and NYC's skyline. Would recommend arriving a few minutes early so you can enjoy the Hudson River and appreciate the river breeze. Before entering the restaurant there is a swing you can sit on and take a few pictures for memories. Our brunch package for three included one alcoholic beverage each, 1st course: oysters, spicy cumbers salad and cocktail shrimp, 2nd course: crab cake and potato with caviar, and our four main entree we had Belgian waffles with fries and eggs Benedict's with home made fries. We ended our feast with chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Oh Ghosh; such a grand experience with the friendliness staff, most delicious brunch and a wonderful view of beautiful NYC. I discovered this restaurant through the bucket list app. They were offering a nice brunch special for two. I love the location, there's street parking and a garage within walking distance. They were accommodating, because we were a few minutes late due to typical I-95 traffic and very rainy weather. This restaurant has good water views, and outdoor dining when the weather permits. Even after your meal, there are benches just outside of the restaurant. There are also views of the Statue of Liberty. The meal came with a Moet cocktail. Either a mimosa or a Moet spritzer. I got the Moet spritzer and I enjoyed it. There were two shared first and second courses with various bites, including an oyster, shrimp cocktail, and bruschetta. Also a crab croquette, tuna tartare, and a potato cube with caviar. There were several options for the main course. I opted for the steak with potatoes and egg. That was probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. Seasoned to perfection! And the finale was a shared dessert plate, consisting of macaroons and what I believe was a flourless chocolate cake, and a scoop of ice cream. The food is good but it's very pricy. Even for New York. The Greek salad with chicken is $32 and the fried zucchini is $22. Especially for a casual restaurant. They also add an automatic 20% grat on the bill, which I do not think needs to be done. A tip and should never be mandatory. I always tip but I don't like being forced into being tipped. read more

Came in on a Sunday night with reservations for 7:30. We were seated promptly and the view of the Hudson River and the sun setting did not disappoint. We didn't start our dinner off too well because our waiter took 25 min to come greet us and take our drink order. I asked the hostess nearby if she could please get our waiter for us. Once our waiter finally came and took our order everything from food and drinks came out quickly. The mosaic octopus, flying octopus, lamb kebab, asparagus side and tuna tartare were all delicious! Took us a bit to actually find the place since the location is tucked away, but once we got in, the views were really nice and it was pretty quiet and chill. The service was also very friendly, but we had a weird issue with our table. We were sitting near a door and every time it opened, we'd get this strong gas smell. It was a bit distracting to be honest. Just a heads up that this isn't your typical Mediterranean spot. There aren't many veg options at all, they didn't even have falafel on the menu. It's a beautiful spot for the scenery, but maybe not the best if you're looking for a big vegetarian meal. I'd rate it a point higher if there were more veg options. read more

We love the battery park area and this restaurant is right on the water with a great sunset views. The food was very thoughtful in plating and combinations of ingredients that all worked really well together. The duck reminded me of a Thanksgiving meal with the sweet potato puree paired with figs, cranberry sauce, and asparagus that all came together very well. Had an AMAZING date experience here. I did the Moet on the Hudson experience and it was 10/10 all round. First, the ambiance and views of the river at night is breathtaking. We opted to sit outside in the heated igloo which was so warm and cozy with its own little space heater. The igloos are glass with pepper lights and cushions with the Moet logo/emblem. Service was great! Our waitress was Eleni N and she was so personable and knowledgeable about the experience and other menu items. She made some great suggestions. The other lady that helped deliver our food to the table was friendly and great as well. The manager also came over towards the end to check how everything was going; I couldn't help but to tease that it was the worst experience ever and her face was just SO disappointed, that I had to break character lol. The food was honestly amazing! Everything was hot and fresh and made with quality ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the variety of food provided, especially for the options of entrees. The bottle of moet was a perfect compliment to the meal, we didn't even bother ordering cocktails. I think the experience is definitely worth every bit of the price. I didn't catch our waiter's name, but he was great! We opted for the Mother's Day Brunch with a Prixe Fixe menu. It was 4 of us and the appetizer serving was enough per person. It included chilled spicy cucumbers, saganaki cigars, crab croquettes, and jumbo shrimp cocktail. First of all, can we talk about it the saganaki cigars? They were truly the star of the show. The flavor? Spectacular. It even had some sort of honey glaze with a kick. I mean how you not like fried cheese!?! Just delicious. The shrimp were indeed jumbo and fresh. I feel like it's kind of hard to mess up shrimp cocktail and this restaurant did a great job. I hadn't had it in a long time and forgot how tasty that dish was. The crab croquettes tasted as if the crab were caught that day. So fresh, crunchy, and flavorful. The cucumbers were okay but didn't blow me away. For the entree, I ordered the asparagus ravioli. Wow! Just wow! The sauce was tart, buttery, and savory. I'm more of a creamy sauce kind of gal, but this sauce was a winner. The asparagus and shiitake mushrooms were buttery and very well seasoned. It was nice and tender. The ravioli had an interesting filling but I enjoyed it. This is a dish I would order again for sure. I ordered a Moscow mule and it was a little on the strong side. Lots of ginger beer. I couldn't even drink it all. The dessert was an assortment picked by the chef. I liked about 2 or 3 of the desserts. I was expecting it to be just as good as the appetizer and entree, but it wasn't. What an amazing experience! The views were absolutely breath taking. Made a reservation and was immediately seated. The food was immaculate! We had the lamb chops, pan seared salmon and the Amalfi Seafood Pasta. The lamb chops were very tender! The seafood pasta was mind blowing. So much flavor and I was definitely full when I left. Walked in on the Fourth of July. Everything was fairly decent except our server. He was grumpy, annoyed and got mad at us bc he didn't understand our order. Lamp Chops were tender, soft and well seasoned, cooked to the requested temperature, accompanied with a parsnip puree. The Mint Chimichurri sauce was delish with the right amount of mint and garlic. My husband had the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus, also tender and cooked to perfection. MotR offers a costumed-designed cocktails menu, I had Oopa Being a fan of Greek cuisine it's a must to have Baklava my husband had the Limoncello Ripieno; lemon sorbet served inside the lemon. The waitress Janette was very pleasant and helpful. It is a small establishment but the decor is nice and they make great use of the space. However, some of the tables are pretty close to each other. There is a nice view of the water but there is a walking path so it is not unobstructed views. There is an outdoor dining area. There is a photo op outside with a swing. The cigars were amazing. Easily my favorite thing I had during the entire night. The cheese was melted and the cigars were warm. The honey and sesame were perfect on the cigars. I ordered the pan seared Chilean sea bass and the crisp on the skin was incredible. Perfect crisp and seasoned well. The sea bass was really good and easily broke apart. The olive tapenade was a perfect match. The Sicilian caponata was a bit too sweet in certain parts. I would prefer more olive tapenade. I ordered lemon potatoes to go with my entree. The lemon potatoes were undercooked and hard to chew and cut in certain sections of the wedges. The potatoes lacked flavor. I've had lemon potatoes before but these tasted like regular potatoes that needed more flavor. I would not recommend the lemon potatoes. My friends ordered the lamb chops and the grilled skirt steak. The lamb chops were pretty small. They said the food tasted okay. The baklava was brought out and the pieces were nice and warm. It was really good. I would order these again. I was not impressed by the drinks at all. I asked for the top two drinks and was informed that the bartender stated they were: Oopa! and Mediterranean Flame. I ordered the Oopa! and the Louboutini. I expected more from the drinks. The Oopa! was very light in flavor. It is more so of a refreshing drink. The Louboutini also could use more flavor. read more

Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor, served on a bed of mashed potatoes that were so creamy and rich, I could've eaten a whole bowl. The octopus wasn't bad. Not the most memorable, but still tasty. Cute presentation added a nice touch. We sat outside and caught some sun during the meal. If you stay long enough, you'll catch the sunset, which makes the whole experience feel even more magical. We arrived around 12noon and were seated without a reservation quickly. If the weather is good, there are nice views of the weather. The fixed price menu actually is a good deal, although some items are strangely priced and not listed on the menu so you do not know the cost until after the meal (like $7 for a small iced tea) . The lamb meatballs had a slight curry taste to them, but were not spicy. The appetizer portion came with two very small meatballs so more of a personal plate and would not be suitable for sharing. The salmon was nicely cooked and a generous portion but the veggies it was on were soaked in a heavy, greasy oil. The service was VERY slow. A lunch for two took almost an hour and 15 minutes, with much of it being downtown waiting for someone to come by or the check to come. read more

Mezze on the River October 11, 2025 Celebrated my dear friend's 60th birthday at this restaurant. By the description I was told about the restaurant it seemed it was a boat, it is not but it is by the water; wonderful location and view. Although a bit hard to find (it is in an apt complex; just walk past the desk and through a gate in back and restaurant is there. There are no signs but the gentleman at the desk was quite helpful. When reviewing the menu before arriving I was not thrilled with the choices. Upon arrival my friend and I were 30 minutes early for the reservation for a large group of about 13, we were greeted warmly and unlike other NYC restaurants we were allowed to sit at the table without waiting for everyone to arrive (thank you for that). They have these mocktails and I had the Love punch, very refreshing. Before the group arrived my friend and I were hungry and ordered the pita with dips app (Taziki (sp), eggplant and one other). I am not a fan of eggplant but tried it on the nice warm pita pieces (these were amazing alone: soft, warm and delicious) it was quite good to my pleasant surprise. We had a pre-fixed menu: appetizers for the group: oysters, shrimp cocktail (to die for), crab cake balls (needed more seasining but nice crab portion with actual crab meat not the fake stuff; well fried, not greasy) and a potato cube with caviar. I did not eat the oyster but everything was delicious. I had never had caviar so it was a nice experience (caviar did not taste like anything to me). My favorite was the shrimp cocktail which had jumbo shrimp (5) and cocktail sauce and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The potato piece with the caviar was cold but still tasty. For the entree I decided on the steak and eggs with side of garlic mashed potatoes, absolutely delicious. Some guest ordered the salmon, some had the branzino (fish), some had seafood pasta in a parchment pouch. EVERYTHING was amazing. Our server Karen was excellent. She was polite, professional, attentive and had a good personality. Her suggestions for the entree was spot on. My steak was cooked to my liking (well done, tender and full of flavor). The entire staff from the manager (did not get his name) to those busing the tables and bringing the food were outstanding. We were already seated when the manager came over to tell us we only had 90 minutes to eat. We still finished within that time, but it set a weird tone for what was supposed to be a relaxed dinner. Throughout the meal we had to stop staff from taking our plates while we were still eating, which made it feel like they were rushing us out. We ordered the prix fixe, but the bill came with items charged incorrectly or as add-ons. When we asked for a correction, the updated bill used a random "discount" to balance things and we were told it came out to be "cheaper" for us. But the new bill did not properly recalculate tax and tip because the 20% auto-gratuity was based on the wrong total, we were actually being overcharged by a small amount. I asked for the bill to be rebuilt correctly just to keep the pricing transparent and to also ensure we paid the restaurant what they were owed, but the manager refused and insisted their machine was right and that it is working out in my favor anyways. Once I showed my math, he doubled down with "the machine does the math and we cannot do whatever you want with the calculations." Feeling kinda gaslit and confused I figured it was not substantial enough anyways for the trouble and just wanted to pay and leave. After checking again, I did in fact overpay, even if it was under $2. Not the end of the world, but the way it was handled felt dismissive. For context, our order was: 5 Prefix meals: 5 x $65 = $325 1 Extra Mash Potatoes = $12 Issues: Charged for a tuna spoon we never ordered or received Branzino filet billed at $72 even though the prix fixe menu listed it at $65 Subtotal: $337 Auto Tip: $337 x 20% = $67.40 City Tax: $337 x 8.875% = $29.91 Total Owed: $434.31 Total Paid: $436.96 So yeah it was just a couple of bucks and inconsequential. The manager just handled the situation really poorly from start to finish. On our way out as I was helping my elderly relative through the door, the Manager was trying to rush us out to close it since it was letting in cold air. read more

I selected the lamb chops. I did not try the oysters, but everything else tasted fresh. I particularly enjoyed the cucumber salad and the croquettes, although they were small and I wish that more were served. The potato didn't have much flavor or seasoning. My friend ordered the surf and turf and really enjoyed her steak. She requested some butter for her lobster, and the waitress brought out a stick of butter vs something melted for her to dip in or drizzle over the plate. I really enjoyed my lamb and the mashed parsnips. I would loved to have more Brussels sprouts in the meal though. For dessert, we were served a plate of the chef's selections. Mind you there were four people at the table so we were given two plates. Still, we only got to enjoy one bite of each item. Although they were tasty, they were way too small and we were not told what was in each item. Generally, the service was good and the food tasted nice, but I thought the serving sizes were quite small for what we were paying. I wanted to love this place but unfortunately I was treated as if I was pestering the server. We sat at the table for 10 minutes waiting. The server was constantly standing around chatting with the other staff, didn't bother to check up on us. He kept trying to sell us the most expensive dishes, his accent and vocabulary was a bit difficult to comprehend which made him frustrated when we asked questions. Went for drinks and apps when they opened on the weekend with a few friends. Good location for walking the Hudson, near financial district. It was our first stop. I was not impressed. By the description it looks so large and elaborate on the water. It is from that. It is really set back from the water, near some older apartments. We wanted to stand by the ledge that faces the direction of the water with bar stools and they gave us a hard time for some reason. The aperol spritz was ok.
