I've been to Zaytinya's other locations and have always found them to offer well-executed, if slightly dumbed-down, takes on Turkish classics. I must confess that after two breakfasts at the New York outpost, I do not think their quality has been upheld in this location. Türk kahvaltı is by many measures the pride of Turkish cuisine, and a proper serpme kahvaltı is usually offered with some form of egg dish, like menemen, or mıhlama. Menemen is not the most complex dish to make, but somehow they screwed it up here. The portion was fit for a bird, and that characteristic sweetness from domates salçası was totally absent. The shakshuka on a second visit was an improvement, but had an odd flavor profile from the peppers. One redeeming attribute? They offer şekerli (sweetened) Türk kahvesi, which is oddly hard to find in the States and is in my opinion far more palatable than the unsweetened bitter preparation. read more

I understand giving us space to appreciate the food and enjoy each other's company, but definitely still think the service could have been more attentive. All that said, the interior was lovely. The food here is like a slightly refined Mediterranean cuisine inspired by Turkish and Lebanese flavors. I like it better than a regular Greek restaurant because it has more flavors. I deducted one star because portion for a lot of dishes are too small for the price. Like each small plate of mezze is $12; the entrée octopus, is a small plate that you'd think it's an appetizer dish. Service is impeccable: Our server was patience and understanding. The spacious has a huge, spacious dining area that can easily accommodate large groups. The ambiance is warm and welcoming with higher ceilings. Downsides: Small portion. Had a great dinner with Zaytinya in NYC. I've been to the DC location before, had a chance to eat at their NYC location. Food is under the same quality. And we also ordered couple new items we did not tried before - the half chicken. All food is light, well-balanced, tasty, healthy. And I like the vibe of this restaurant, great service, great drinks, and they did not put main entree and light dishes together. We had a chance to enjoy the fresh from oven pita mixing with hummus, and other sauces combo. Their chocolate cake is also delicious, not too sweet and having Greek yoghurt ice cream with it. I loved this restaurant when I first tried it in DC, so I was excited to visit the New York location. For some reason it did not hit the same for me. The bread came out cold and the dishes were not as flavorful or exciting as what I remembered from my first visit. The lamb was recommended by the staff, but the texture was a bit chewier than what I had in DC. It was still decent, just not as tender as I expected. The inside of the restaurant is very nice and they were able to accommodate a large group with no issues. The only con is that there is just one bathroom, so be prepared for a wait. Service was great and everyone was very friendly. Reservations were also really easy to make which I appreciated. We had an amazing experience at Zaytinya! It was date night in the city so we chose Zaytinya for dinner and drinks. We had a reservation but didn't seem to need it as we got there at 5pm. We were immediately welcomed by the server and offered bread and we order a side of hummus! The bread was fabulous and we were continually served bread when we ran out with our hummus. I had the shrimp tapas plate which was very good but I'd suggest ordering it as an appetizer or a shared dish as it is quite small. The lamb burger was great and came with a side of fries. The carrots are small and underwhelming, perhaps if they were more tender, I would have enjoyed them more. The baba ghanoush is an even smaller dish than the carrots. The restaurant is gorgeous, and I am curious about trying the tahdig, seeing as none of the starters are anything worth ordering again. But the oddest thing was how our waiter didn't seem to know how to serve wine. I didn't recognize 2 wines on the menu served by glass, so I asked him to describe them and then asked to taste them both. He brought me 1 glass, poured the first wine, which I tasted, and then attempted to put the second wine into the same wine still contained an ounce sample pour of the first wine. Keeping in mind that this is the Four Seasons, and not my local dive, I just assumed servers would know how to serve wine.... Instead, I rinsed out my own wine glass with water for him to serve the second tasting. This is an absolute gem. Went to dinner here on Valentines day and I have to say, this place is precisely stellar at combing creativity, understanding of the cuisine, ambience and impeccable service. The food is delightful, small plates, expertly done, plated with care. How can hummus be amazing, when the whole city is filled with places where you can get hummus? Well, they do it better, season it better, take the time for the consistency to be perfect. I also liked prtakal salatasi, brocolini and octopus. Seared Salmon was like none other. I cannot forget their amazing drink menu with 3pm in istanbul and Ankara Rye Club being my favorite. When it's summer time, I find myself craving refreshing dishes of Mediterranean cuisines. Zaytinya fits the bill and offers a more refined experience than some cozy family-style restaurants you will find in other parts of the city. Despite being housed inside a Ritz Carlton, the dishes here are thankfully not outrageously priced. Our server was friendly and took time to explain the regular menu to us. We opted for the summer restaurant week menu and added an order of baba ghannouge. What I found interesting was that the baba ghannouge was served first, then the first course and second course dishes were served all at once. I enjoyed the spread a lot as it had a texture that's smooth and not too thick. The bread they served were more like airy crisps than your regular chewy pita bread, which contrasted nicely with the spread. For our first course dishes, we ordered the Brussels sprouts (they ran out of the roasted asparagus) and the watermelon salad. The salad, although refreshing, lacked presentation that I was expecting. The Brussels sprouts were either fried or baked at a high temperature that the leaves became as crispy as chips; which tasted awesome against the crema on top. For our second course, we ordered the chicken skewer (shish taouk) and the soujouk pide. The chicken tasted good but I was underwhelmed by the fact there were only four small pieces. The soujouk pide was like a pizza with sausage and runny egg. I loved how flaky the dough was; it almost reminded me of a croissant. I've been to Zaytinya many times at several locations around the US (namely DC, LA, & NYC). This location is now attached to the Ritz Carlton hotel in the Nomad/Flatiron area. There are a lot of walkable streets and shops around the restaurant, but you certainly feel transported into a sophisticated atmosphere when you step into the establishment. It is spacious, clean, and bright with a large dining area and bar area. The dishes are all shareable, and I think 2-3 dishes per person would suffice for the average meal. My favorites are the hummus (pro tip: highly recommend requesting it with crudités!), beet salad, falafel, and grilled salmon. The food is fresh and very well prepared. The service is quick and the customer service has always been stellar. The staff are very friendly and accommodating with any preferences or dietary restrictions. I typically come to Zaytinya with groups, as it can be a lively experience over drinks and shared plates, but you can have date night here as well! Looking forward to returning soon! read more

I've heard so much about this Mediterranean spot from friends so I had to give it a try. Located inside the Ritz and right in Flatiron, it's a beautiful restaurant that's good for a date night or nice dinner with friends. Service here was relatively quick and nice. We got started with their complimentary, fluffy and freshly baked pita and olive oil, which was delicious. It was light, fluffy, and stuff crispy on the outside. The htipiti was the perfect pair to that, and a great taste of summer tomatoes. The crispy brussel sprouts were delicious with its barberries and garlic yogurt. The half-roasted chicken was good, but I felt that it was a bit dry. And, the eggplant imam bayildi was also good, but maybe not for me. Came here for a work dinner and immediately knew I needed to come back. First, the restaurant is beautiful. Very open and airy and the color scheme is one that I love and find very relaxing. The vibe is upbeat, with great music and energetic staff, but I still felt very at ease the entire meal. I had a terrific cocktail to kick things off, 3 PM in Istanbul. Considering I'd just returned from Istanbul 48 hours before I ate here, it was apt and the cocktail was delicious...refreshing and light. We had a menu of small plates and everything was good, but I was full by the second round. Standouts were the puffy bread, htipiti, the octopus, brussels sprouts, pilaf with lentils, lamb, chicken and spicy eggplant. Service was spectacular all evening and they handled our big crowd with ease. We had an almond cake for dessert which was very good as well as a yogurt thing with sour cherries which I didn't try because I was so full but received rave reviews from my colleagues. Wow! I'm here with a bachelorette party & we had the most amazing time! Everything from the cocktails to the fresh bread to the desserts was beyond delicious. Truly transport you to the Mediterranean. The interior is bright with a classic could be on the water vibe. The place does get very busy so if you don't want to be in the middle of it, all ask for a table to the side or in one of the corners. For our meal, we went with the chef's experience menu. If you're with a large group or if you want to try a lot of different items from the menu, this is highly suggested. First round included all of the dips and grape leaf dolmades. They bring out one plate per three guests so we got two of each plate. Second round of apps included falafel, these incredible sautéed shrimp and a beet salad. Personally, I could've skipped the falafel and beet salad, they were very tasty, but not my favorite on the menu. The shrimp were to die for! Finally, with our mains, we didn't upgrade to get the lamb chops (which in hindsight was perfect because there's so much food) so our meal consisted of these beef meatballs in a stewed red sauce, chicken skewers, and crispy brussels sprouts. Everything was really delicious, I could've eaten an entire plate of the brussels sprouts by myself. One of our guests was a pescatarian, so they kindly switched out her personal means for a piece of salmon and the most incredibly cooked scallops. 100% order the scallops if you're ordering à la cart! We also had someone on our table that was allergic to nuts and they went above and beyond accommodating, both people in our party. Giving a nut free or meat free version to each of them. Dessert was good, the almond cake would've been much better if warmed, but was still delicious. Had a great citrusy note that we would've never guessed it would have. Falafel - probably my favorite dish. Crispy and full of pleasant spices. It's served with fresh herbs and creamy tahini. The pickled vegetables and the sweet cherry tomatoes brought the dish to standout levels. Imam bayildi - the long-cooked tomatoes and eggplant made for a comforting dish, with savory and subtly sweet flavors. Halloumi pide - it really just tasted like a decent cheese pizza. Not bad a bad thing, but I'd probably get one of the other options next time. Cauliflower - great texturally, the cauliflower was perfectly cooked. The creamy herb tahini underneath was also nice. I felt there was a bit too much of something bitter, maybe turmeric. Grape leaves - tart and fresh, on a creamy bed of labneh. Well-executed. Everything worked out to around $52 each after tax and tip. The server recommended 3-4 dishes per person, but I think you'd need to be super hungry to be able to finish that much food - we ended up with some leftovers even ordering less than that. read more

They have these nice big booths that offer privacy and comfort. I love the color schemes and the decor. The bar is beautiful. Servers and runner were less than service oriented. We tried a flat bread and the dough was undercooked and not seasoned. Tried the mixed grill and the meat was overcooked. We really appreciated it! Service was smooth except for one glitch from one of the table runners who brought us the wrong dish, so we had to wait a while for the right one. Other dishes took a little while to arrive also. Note that they only accepted physical credit card payments at the table, so in order to use ApplePay, I had to follow the server back to their station and buzz it at the terminal there. Oddly, there is only one bathroom -- a single stall unit -- for the entire restaurant. However, this restaurant is part of the Ritz Carlton hotel, so I had no problem walking farther back into the hotel and up the stairs to use the swanky restrooms there. Visited Zaytinya with a friend on a Friday evening. It's large, beautiful restaurant on a corner with floor-to-ceiling windows, modern lighting fixtures, and an airy, upscale vibe. I arrived first, and the hostesses were very welcoming. I waited at the bar, which was stylish and comfortable, a nice spot for a drink even on its own. The restaurant was packed (8pm on a Friday), but service was good. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. I ordered the Za'atar Margarita, which was fun and different, with a little salty with foam on top. My first came up, and the second was on the rocks, both good, though pricey at $21 each (typical NYC cocktail cost). For food, we shared a few dishes: a dip trio (off-menu, but our server offered it: hummus, baba "ghannouge" and htipiti), which came with very light, airy pita. We also split the Adana Kebab (lamb, $21) and the Fattoush Salad ($12). Everything was enjoyable, though not especially memorable. I've also been to the Zaytinya in D.C. and felt similarly, nice space, good service but food not particularly impressive. Overall, a good option if you're in the area and want a stylish, moderately priced spot for dinner or a work meal. I came here last night to celebrate a late birthday dinner with a friend, per the recommendation of a coworker who works closely with the hotel. This stunning José Andrés restaurant is located inside of a Ritz Carlton but is easy to find with its own street entrance. I requested for two glasses of cava to be served up upon our arrival and the staff was kind enough to comp it for the celebration! We were then served complementary bread with olive oil and some vinegar to start. We both ordered cocktails, his was the Minoan Sidecar and mine was the Olive Branch Martini. I have always been on the fence about that stuff all of martinis, but this one completely changed my mind and was so easy to drink! I highly recommend checking out the menu ahead of time, especially if you're not familiar with Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine, as a lot of the names were unfamiliar, however, you truly can't go wrong. I had the Avgotaraho which was like nothing I've had before. It was very interesting and had a great fishy flavor, but wasn't very filled. He had the bantijian bil laban, which was unique and had so many great textures with the perfectly crisp eggplant and all around delicious and a great starter. We both shared the soujouk pide, as my friend mentioned this Turkish sausage meat was difficult to find and it was outstanding! For dessert, we split the Turkish coffee chocolate cake which was small yet rich and decadent. Perfect to split and the perfect ending to a fantastic night. Great ambiance and service, the bathrooms upstairs are super nice too! We ordered the set menu which came with a bunch of appetizers, mains, and two desserts to share with everyone. This is a great option for a larger group so we can try a lot of items. Highlights were the tomato feta dip, brussel sprouts, and falafel (one of the best I've had so far). Zaytinya - Tapas/Small Plates Near Me - New York, New York

I had been to Zaytinya before, but was excited to go back at my parent's suggestion during their visit to NYC yesterday. The interior of this place is stunning, with lots of natural light, plants, and funky blue and white decor. The staff are always lovely and accommodating, taking coats upon arrival. Our waiter was also extremely attentive and helpful at every stage of the meal. I ordered the 3pm in Instanbul cocktail which I really liked. It was fresh, sweet, and slightly tart because of the grapefruit. There's also mint tea infused vodka, aperol, vanilla, and lime in the cocktail which made it the perfect transition to spring drink ($22). The meal starts with pita, which in my opinion, needs the olive oil to not be dry. We also ordered the grape leaves dolmades ($15) as an appetizer which were good, but truthfully, they weren't the best I've had. We had the family style kebab platter as an entree which includes lamb, koftee, chicken, and adana kebabs paired with tomato, onion, and garlic toum ($72). This was great, however I definitely recommend dressing the meets with the garnishes. To finish out the meal, we ordered the Turkish coffee molten-lava cake ($14) which was good, but I would have preferred more ooey gooey chocolate in the center.
