I ordered this on Postmates and I wasn't expecting a delivery with the best Turkish food in New York City. I had ordered ala turka but its not authentic really. pI think that this might've been the best Turkish food in New York City. I've been to Turkey several times and this was one to one authentic and the lentil soup is the best I've had also, the rice pudding is wow. As far as the meal I ordered the lamb chops and it came with the rice with the rice was perfection. It was completely cooked better than any other rice I've had in a long time. I must say the lamb chops I would say was mediocre, but I mean the price is such a good price that it is kind of what it is. I mean one seemed to be overcooked. The other three was edible and tender. Sometimes there's just one bad item. I don't know, but I'm going to order again tonight and try it again. Let's give them one more chance of the lamb chops. Wow I am such a fan!! We were looking for a casual dinner spot and Sophra Grill was highly rated, so we decided to give it a try. I haven't had a ton of Turkish food so branched out with a few new items. It was my first time trying Red Lentil Soup, and it was so tasty! The pureed lentils gave it a nice, thick texture and there was a nice acidity to the dish! I would compare it to a thicker (and better) tomato soup for people that haven't tried before. From Sophra's reviews and pictures, I really had my eye set on one of their brick oven items. We landed on the Lahmacun, and it did not disappoint. The lamb and veggie spread was nice and thin, and the crust was perfectly crispy! They pair with some veggies on the plate as well, and all the flavors paired so perfectly together. For a dish we were more familiar with, we went with the Mix Lamb & Chicken Gyro. The meat was tender and juicy, and the portion was generous as well! Got the gyro platter and it hit the spot. The flavor was great and the sauces they gave were paired great with it too. You can tell the bread and side dishes were all super fresh and made fresh too. Absolutely amazing spot for Turkish food in Murray Hill. It was close to my hotel, so I figured to stop in. I'm so glad I did. I got to try a variety of different items, inducing: ayran, chicken Adana sandwich on home bread, Turkish tea, and rice pudding. The ayran was probably the best I've ever had in my life. It was so refreshing, the perfect amount of salt, so good. And it's homemade. I would highly recommend you try this drink regardless of what you order, it's that good. The chicken Adana sandwich was also quite nice. The chicken was fresh and well seasoned in a good portion with some lettuce, onions, tomatoes as well. The bread was great. It's served with two wonderful, flavorful sauces: hot sauce and yogurt sauce (I much prefer the latter). Portion is incredible for the price. Then, I was initially interested in trying the fig pudding for dessert but they were out of it, so I went with the rice pudding. Again, a huge portion that is well worth the price. So creamy, so good. And, they brought out 2 Turkish teas for free to make up for not having the fig! The people are just very nice here, and the tea was also lovely, piping hot and just perfect. It's a pretty small restaurant but doesn't get crowded early on. They were playing some Turkish music while I ate, and I really enjoyed it. Was really craving Turkish food so I came to this place for dinner. The inside was small but cozy and the waiter was super inviting and kind. We ordered the Lahmacun since they recommended it and also a chicken gyro platter to share among 2 people. They gave some free bread as an appetizer which was fluffy and warm. The Lahmacun were huge!! Each flatbread was super thin and crispy with a smear of ground lamb, onions, and peppers mixed with spices. I usually am not a fan of lamb but this was delicious with no gaminess. The gyro platter was also huge, piled high with sliced chicken gyro on rice and some nice salad on the side. I found this spot after googling for Mediterranean food near my job. It had enough tables for my co-worker and I to choose and is very clean. The food here is too expensive. I speak 60$ on a cheese pie and rice with lamb and the food came to me cold. On top of that the meat was not fresh at all it tasted like a refrigerator. The salad was also not fresh it tasted old and had brown leafs inside. Price is not my problem. Ever since returning from a trip to Turkey, I've been searching for a restaurant that serves a good Iskender kebab. Unfortunately, they've always disappointed and couldn't come close to what I had in Turkey. But Sophra Grill hit the spot! Omg. The best Iskendar kebab I have had since my time in Turkey, 13 years ago. You MUST try this. They make their bread in-house, and it is absolutely delicious, which we enjoyed with babaghanoush. To drink, get the sour cherry juice and homemade ayran, and for dessert, you must try the homemade almond pudding. On top of that, the service at this family-owned/run restaurant is top notch. They welcomed us like we were guests in their own home. I'm so sad that I don't live in NY, otherwise I would definitely be a regular here. read more

Ambiance rate 6/10. The dishes that were ordered... 1. Icli Kofte (Stuffed Meatballs): These had a nice crispy coating, and a soft meaty texture inside. The flavor of the meatball was yummy. The tomato sauce paired with it, especially, was the best part. It had a great spicy flavor that made the dish so tasty. Rate 9/10. 2. Mix Lamb and Chicken Gyro Entrée: This dish was my favorite! The lamb was one of the best lamb I've ever tasted. It was crispy and super flavorful. The chicken was also very delicious since it was perfectly tender and juicy. I also liked the rice and the sauce it was doused in. Rate 10/10. 3. Lahmacun: This dish was okay. The meat and other ingredients had more of a sweet taste, rather than a savory taste which I would've preferred. What was nice was the that dough had a good crispiness to it. Rate 6.5/10. 4. Meat Cubes Pide: This was super yummy. The meat, cheese, and other toppings all paired well together. The dough was also perfectly buttered and crispy. JOHN / JOHNNY is the nicest best guy to deal with for in-house orders or delivery. Give that man a raise and a promotion. He's the highlight! The food is solid. Love the Pide with mozzarella and feta I just tried. My husband loves the Sophra (cheese)burger -- it's tasty, and he digs the octopus. I will say that I used to order delivery here but I got a little skeeved out during the pandemic -- when some of the folks that worked there (who I assumed were the owners due to their age and lack of awareness) were putting the condiments together at tables out in the open wearing winter coats. It just didn't look right. But that time period is over, In the past, I also saw employees, who I'm again assuming are owners, smoking right outside their restaurant. Again, it's a matter of hygiene and respect for your restaurant and customers. I didn't see that last time, so I won't penalize the restaurant for past grievances, but I can't necessarily erase that from my mind. I will say that this place excels at takeout -- but doesn't quite have the same standard for dining in. The tables and chairs aren't wiped and prepped every time some one leaves. So it feels a little more like cafeteria style. I think the restaurant just needs to decide one way or another one the look/feel. Should it feel like a self-serve cafeteria where it's no-frills at the table, or should it match the price and be a little more restaurant-y. :) But either way, I'll say, the food is yummy -- the John(ny) is the BEST! read more

Walked in as a party of 10 and was immediately accommodated (luckily a prior reservation had canceled). The owner (I assume) was extremely sweet and patient with our party. We tried everything from the donners , to pide's, to the platters. Everything was great!! I would recommend the pide the most, and would try not to order gyro's. I came here recently with a couple friends, and the restaurant was pretty empty, so we were seated immediately. The staff was friendly, and happily gave us recommendations. We got the stuffed grape leafs, chicken pide, lahmacun, and the lamb doner. The grape leafs weren't super up my alley; the coldness mixed with the sliminess of the rice inside made for a strange texture. The chicken pide was good, but not super flavorful in anyway. The lahmacun was similar; I wrapped the onion and other toppings inside per my friend's instruction, but that ended up dominating the flavor of each bite, rather than the lamb and seasoning itself. The lamb doner was solid; lamb was cooked well, and the rice had a really nice buttery taste to it. Overall, a very local neighborhood spot. My feelings about the restaurant are as mixed as a complex rice pilaf. It appears to be primarily a takeout business, but I dined-in at one of their casual tables. The gentleman who waited on me was excellent - very friendly and attentive, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure I enjoyed my meal. I took him up on his recommendation - the Lamb Adana Kabob. The lamb was a bit chewy, but nicely plated and good flavor, particularly with the accompanying contrasting sauces - a (very) hot sauce and a cool yogurt sauce. The hot-out-of-oven lavash bread was fantastic, and I enjoyed the lamb best wrapped in the lavash like a mini-sandwich. The rice and salad were traditional sides, albeit somewhat basic and nothing special. I would have preferred a shepherd salad or at least some cucumber with the greens. The Baklava was not overly sweet, and the pistachios added a nice crunch that was missing from the soggy phyllo. Even for Manhattan it seemed a bit pricy given the casual ambiance.
