However, after giving her my order details she mysteriously disappeared off with some wine glasses to tend to some other table guests. Assuming, that in between my talking to her and her picking up the glasses, she had someone forgotten that there was a customer waiting for their order, I resorted to asking another waiter to bring my food, that didn't quite work either and it wasn't until the third waiter that I was brought my food, well, if dropping the box in your hand and walking immediately off without even so much as a thank you or goodbye counts? As for the food, it smelt delightful, however, I couldn't help but wonder if the chef had accidentally dropped the bottle of vinegar without the lid into our salad. As for the fresh bread, someone had forgotten to take it out of it's supermarket wrapper! The chicken wraps looked quite damp and unappetising and despite smelling wonderful, the food tasted only mediocre. Overall, the food is slightly below par but I found the service woefully short and couldn't help wonder that even a few lessons in courtesy from a high street kebab fast food outlet would be beneficial.

I so want to give a five star rating here but am terribly torn. The level of service was so…read moredisappointing that I think I may never convince my other half to return here with me again. Please read in full- I am desperately hoping this was a one time service mishap. Let me begin with all the positives! I am absolutely enamoured with the ambiance and decor at Comptoir! The food was also fantastic! The decor is colourful and full of life. There is an indoor Souk Shop, which is an open air marketplace in Middle Eastern cities. There are beautiful straw bags, silver baskets and tea pots lining the walls which are available for sale. There are also Turkish teas, fig jams, harissa paste, Fanta and delicious sweets that you can take home or gift to keep the experience going. The food does not disappoint! We shared the Mezze platter for two that game with all sorts of deliciousness: Baba ghanuj, hommos, tabbouleh, falafel, lentil salad, cheese sambousek, pickles and pita bread. Everything was marvellous when it came to the quality of the food. The dessert menu itself makes a good argument to stop in for a quick treat! There is an outdoor patio along the Thames which is also a lovely area in nice weather. Now for the service: The day I visited there was twice the amount of staff as patrons when we arrived. We were seated by the staff and waited several minutes to order water and wine. After a long wait, a waiter came and took our order for our Mezze platter. As we sat for 30 minutes in a calm restaurant waiting for our Mezze platter, we saw the staff continuously cleaning silver wear, the cooks staring at patrons and wondering why everyone appeared busy but alas, no food or any other communications. As we had given up hope of eating, the waiter came back and asked us if we were ready to order. The waiter clearly forgot to enter in the food. He quickly blamed the kitchen and put in our food order on the computer. After this, the cooks and several staff were staring at us for the rest of our meal, circling and hovering clearly ready to help but very, very awkward having so many people stare while trying to eat. We were so uncomfortable that I couldn't even order dessert- which I was very much looking forward to. It would have been so much better to simply apologise for the mishap. I will absolutely give Comptoir another try, as everyone has a bad day, but I do hope that the management team takes note. It's such a gorgeous place and I would love to bring a group of friends here for a party-

It was well after the lunch rush, and before folks started showing up for dinner, so I had the restaurant to myself. I looked over the menu, and decided that I wanted their hommos schwarma starter. After I had ordered it, I changed my mind, and felt I really wanted the spicier version of their hommos instead, the hommos Beiruty. They ended up giving me both, charging me for one, and provided loads of pita. I was looking for a snack, but this was turning into a meal! Anyway, I mentioned that I really enjoyed ayrans, a salted yogurt drink common to the Mideast, and asked if they could make one (it wasn't on the menu). The cook said he most certainly could, and had his own special recipe. Wow. They were not only providing a fairly cheap meal, but also a special drink not even on the menu! Anyway, both plates of hommos were tasty, especially the hommos Beiruty. The ayran, however, was in a class all to itself: it was singularly the best ayran I'd ever had in my life! I finished it, and they came by and filled up another glass (free of charge, no less). I walked out for 16 pounds, and had a bunch of leftovers! I regret with my activities this week that I could not stop by again. But I told folks I knew here all about it. Well worth a visit if you're in Guildford, even for the day.

This was followed by a good Moroccan mint tea which was just like my Grandmother used to make. The food is very authentically Lebanese/Middle Eastern (I'm from the Middle East originally). The shisha was also really good, about £8-10 cheaper than central London and much smoother. They do the coals properly just outside the restaurant. The interior of this place is decorated richly (perhaps not to everyones taste) as well as plush and comfortable. Service was fantastic and the reason this review ultimately gets five stars. Every single server we had had a great attitude. This made our Friday night after a long week at work. If you enjoy authentic Lebanese cuisine, great service and shisha done properly - this is a great place to spend an evening without Central London prices. I went expecting a lot less but was pleasantly surprised. We will definitely be returning.
