Martel was called to repair a ubolt mechanism and tire on a trailer where a the spring shifted towards The rear fender. While driving the John boat trailer, the ubolt attached to the Spring shifting towards the rear of the Trailer. This caused the fender and the tire to contact and thus popping the tire. I explained this to Martel Friday January 27th 2023 whom assured me that after 23 or so years in business that even though it was an odd request he could still do the job but it would not be till Saturday morning at 8am. that night I left the trailer on the highway and checked into a hotel, I agreed that night to confirm all details about him coming to repair the trailer and tire where he confirmed multiple times for the full job it would be 385$ he knew I had a sick three year old little boy and was traveling from NH to FL with said trailer, and was trying to get there so that my child could be cared for. Martel agreed to pick up a new tire at harbor freight, however, I offered several times to get this tire prior to Martel leaving his shop. Harbor freight ended up not actually updating their stock and thus leading them to not having the tire. Where Martel advised he would need to bring my tire to his shop as he had the tire there and that he would be right back. he showed up at 9:12am to remove the tire. He left around 10 minutes later saying he would be right back and it would be no more than 1 hour. at by 11:14pm I had called him for an etf as I had been sitting for a very long time waiting where he said oh yes were waiting for the tire to settle or dry. Martel did not show back up until around 12:40pm saying that because it was a new tire it took an our to stretch so he was sorry it took so long. then took a sledge hammer and pounded the fender back and put the tire back on. Oddly enough I said could not understand why he was doing it this way instead of moving the axel back like he promised in the beginning. When all was said and done Martel began asking for additional $ and did not even fix the original issue. under duress I said how do I get the axel fixed then ha said oh that's going to cost more I only agreed to fix your tire. Martel not only knew that that was far from the truth but then proceeded to tell me that in order now to fix the axel to make it safe for me to use the trailer for a longer distance that I would need to bring the trailer to his shop. But refused to give the address unless I paid his new pricing of $455.00 then after feeling forced to pay this as I was in a panic because my three year old little boy was very sick I asked are you sure I will be safe driving the trailer as the spring is tilted he said yes but drive slow and I will meet you at my shop as I have another customer on the other side of the road. and said he would be right there and to wait for him, 10 seconds into the drive the ubolt shifted again causing the tire to rub against the fender again where it began to smoke. I tried to waive Martel down where he legitimately saw me waiving but he kept going, I called him right away where he said well ill have to get my mobile mechanic to come to you. I'll call you right back. I waited another 30 minutes with no call then was advised by CT state police to request a refund as he was now not only responsible for for the new damaged tire but also that he put both me and my child at risk by advising that I would be safe to pull the trailer in the shape it was in. I requested a full refund as essentially what he originally agreed to fix was not completed and thus causing me to have to hire another mechanic to come out and fix the trailer.
