For years, I sat behind a desk writing code, testing software, preparing budgets, and answering phones. I was an office worker who had no trade skills nor was I mechanically inclined. My office window overlooked a major freeway where I would watch traffic pass by in both directions. Sometimes, I would think that those big trucks are going somewhere, and I'm not. Truck driving, however, was a skill I believed I could never achieve. One day, my boss announced that there had been a company lay off, and that my position was one of those that had been affected. I didn't want to go into another office job, but I felt stuck. While searching the internet, I found many trucking schools available, and although interested, I did nothing about it until about a week later. I received an unexpected postcard from MG Trucking Schools. I called the number, explained my situation, and then made an appointment with the recruiter. She told me that MG Trucking Schools could teach me how to drive a truck in four weeks or less, even though I had never even been inside a truck. I felt a little skeptical, and I wanted to do some research, so I didn't sign up yet. I did some homework on my own and found the cost of the training to be highly competitive, but I also wanted to know my options, so I met with her again. She explained that they could customize payment plans to fit my needs. At that point, I signed up and went to class. After just two days of classroom, I went to the DMV, took my written test, and received my CDL learner's permit. For the next three weeks they patiently and professionally worked with me until I knew how to inspect a truck, back up, offset, parallel park a truck, and how to drive in city traffic. Because their classes are small (3-5) students per class, I got a lot of drive time on the road every day. The hours are long, but they give you adequate breaks throughout the day. Also, they provide both morning and evening classes for added convenience. The instructors are experts in both their driving and in their teaching techniques. My hat's off to Jay, Ryan, and Kim who personally worked with me until the day I passed the state exam. Last year at this time, I was trapped in a dead end job. Now, I'm going somewhere. First and foremost I want to thank the staff at MG, they were AWESOME! Not only did they walk me thru every step of the way, they encouraged me, and saw me thru to the finish line. Mrs. Rebecca and Mrs. Ellie were great, as a female student it was refreshing to see a female face. They were always so positive and upbeat! Thanks ladies! My instructor HAROLD was hands down the best instructor. From day 1 he walked me through and taught me so much. The first week was a little overwhelming but the amount of knowledge that I obtained starting day 1 blew my mind. I will forever be grateful to Harold and MG. He was kind, he observed where it was that I needed additional help and he approached it head on to make sure that I was successful in my endeavors. The time goes by fast so they move quickly thru and I was happy I was able to keep up and successfully obtain my CDL A. My examiner HECTOR was awesome as well, although I did not have much interaction with him during my time their since I was assigned to another instructor he performed my CDL exam and made me feel comfortable and confident. You couldn't ask for a better staff. The small class sizes make it easy for you to focus, get one on one time with your instructor, and more drive time. I called several schools throughout the PHX area and many of them advised me that they have 20 plus students per instructor. I searched and compared many CDL schools here in the valley and MG Truck Driving School was at the top of my list. One of the biggest deciding factors for me was the smaller class size. Each instructor typically has 3-5 students so you receive a more personalized training approach and you get a exponential amount of time behind the wheel training, other schools have 15-20+ students per instructor and your training is very limited. These other schools seem corporatized and only want your money, hence the large class sizes. MG Truck Driving has a completely different atmosphere and training program, you'll feel right at home. The instructors are truly the best in the business, knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to ensuring every student's success. This school is also the only one with a state-of-the-art simulator, which provided invaluable hands-on practice, allowing me to hone my skills in a safe environment before hitting the road. I just finished my 3 week course and now have my class A CDL at 70 years old. I had the best experience and what made the difference is the hands on with small groups and a very experienced trainer. There is so much to learn in a short period. I recently retired in April and wanted to try something different and from day 1 was welcomed by the whole staff from the awesome recruiter to the office manager no-one hesitated to assist with with any situation they made me feel part of the family. But the best part was the instructor Harold for someone reason two grumpy old men hit it off and he taught me so much I didn't think I could do it some days but he made get behind the wheel and guided me and when I got nervous he new exactly how to crack a joke at the right time and settle me down.
