My family are from California and there's plenty of Mexican restaurants there but I have to say this was really good food and lots of variety to select from and fresh and hot and the waiter was very tentative. Your my number one spot now for Mexican Today we went to eat at the restaurant for the second time and the waiter got my wife's order wrong and my shrimp and steak was to salty and I don't know what sauce you put on top of it but it was good other then that everything was good. read more

The service was horrible! I am not one to rate a place of business but this place was so bad it lead me to yelp. A $90 ticket for a family of 4 to be skipped over with our drinks. They weren't right when we got them. We ran out of chips and dip twice and had to ask for more. My daughter had shells on her shrimp in the fajita meal. 3 families were served before us and they ordered after us. The ladies bathroom had 3 stalls 2 of which were broke and the one that was usable had not Toiler paper and the number provided for customer support did not allow messages or a way to contact a manager. This was our favorite Mexican restaurant while living in OC and it's still what we use to as a reference when having Mexican at our new home in VA. Maybe they're not authentic, maybe they are. First time at this place, order a dish to go, they say it was going to be 10 min, is now 40 minutes and I'm still waiting for the food, idk how the food tastes well, because I'm still waiting. Coming back after 7 years and still as wonderful a I remember it being. Atmosphere still warm and inviting as always. Staff are super friendly and organized. The Lunch special is delicious! Kids special had mini taco salads which my daughter loved. Have been to Mi Cabana's several times. The food is good, but would put it on par with most other generic Mexican restaurants located far from any border or community with a strong Hispanic presence. Great place for lunch or dinner with family and/or friends, but not really authentic Mexican cuisine. I will say that some of their drink specials, and their Michelada's (my wife is a huge fan) are very good. read more

I've come here maybe ten times during the last two years seldom having the same thing twice, not once have I been let down. They just added a specialty burrito menu and I've had two of them - both were flavorful and satisfying without breaking the bank. My wife and I particularly enjoy sharing the big Parrilla Mi Cabana, and the tacos de lengua (cow tongue tacos) are fantastic! Don't knock it till you try it folks! read more

The rice tasted awful, it was obvious it had not been made that same day & had been microwaved (wish I had taken a picture). My burrito did not taste fresh, at all. Everything on my plate looked/tasted as if it was a day old & microwaved. The only good thing was the fried ice cream desert & the some of the staff were friendly. read more

This place is on a constant decline in service and food. The last 3 times we have gone here the food had been drastically different each time. It once was pretty decent but recently feels like they are cutting corners to save money. On top of subpar food their customer service is awful. The guy from the kitchen had to get my receipt in order to make my food because the guy at the counter never communicated my order back to him. No apology or anything. Wish I could give no stars. Very poor food. Brought out my shrimp- it was raw! Asked them to fix it, they burnt it. Way too expensive for this kinda quality. Save your calories, and go to the new Mexican place next to Cracker Barrel. (It is a thousand times, better!). No cheese or sour cream with fajitas. Tomatoes had bad spots on them. EXCELLENT! My favorite Mexican restaurant ever! I love the special, I can't even remember the name, but it's enough for two people and it comes with every kind of meat imaginable, INCLUDING BACON... They took bacon, delicious amazing bacon and made it BETTER! Last time I was there I had the lamb and it was pretty good. There was nothing "al pastor" about those tacos whatsoever. And the chile relleno wasn't a chile relleno, it was an unbattered pepper filled with bland ground beef, drowned in a weird cream sauce. If you're from San Diego and are used to eating at taco shops like Alberto's, Cotija's, or Roberto's, and would like to find something similar in Jacksonville, good luck with that. Our family went there 10/13 for supper after the Mum Fest. I ordered the shrimp quesadillas. It was the worst thing I ever had. Two flour tortillas with some white cheese melted inside and about 5 shimp in each. Folded over and placed on a plate. The cheese was all centered at the fold and the edges of the tortillas(about 1 1/2" around each one) were brittle and crumbly. Also beans and rice were included. It was the worst meal I had ever had at this place. If you want really good shrimp quesadillas go to El Cerro Grande. I was very disappointed. We had been there one time before and the food was decent. I will never go back. When the waiter asked how things were I said terrible and got no response back. My husband and I decided to try Mi Cabanas out because it looks like they usually have quite few cars outside... Fast forward. The decor was cute but beyond the Salsa and my Dr Pepper the meal was god awful. Husband ordered the Fajita tacos and I ordered a enchilada plate.. His tacos were pretty much inedible because of the amount of cheese in them, meat wasn't seasoned well either.. When ordering my plate I asked "Do you put chile or queso on the cheese enchiladas." to which the girl looked at me crazy and said we use a red sauce and shredded cheese, which happened to be American cheese! Why would that be on a enchilada in a mexican resturant, hmm... So I just kept my mouth shut because she looked blindsided lol. Got my plate and both my cheese and chicken enchilada were covered in their "red" sauce which happened to be enchilada sauce that tasted like it was straight out of the can and chicken inside the enchilada was bland. Also we ordered queso with our chips and it was almost tasteless and was completely watered down Basically we didn't even finish our food. It was NASTY... I understand they probably stay in business because locals haven't had real mexican food, which this isn't. Mi Cabana is an excellent spot for margaritas; however, it is not true Mexican cuisine. We visited Mi Cabana for lunch and were impressed with the customer service; the hostess and waitress were extremely friendly and very attentive! With the exceptional customer service, it was a shame the food quality was not as impressive. Our orders were improperly seasoned with minimal flavor covered with dairy products which is not something we are accustomed to experiencing in Mexican entrees. Normally, these things would not be a bother but we were disappointed during our visit as we had prepared our appetites for Mexican food. Mi Cabana qualifies more as a Tex-Mex restaurant than an authentic Mexican restaurant. I would bring visitors to Mi Cabana with the addition of informing them we would be enjoying Tex-Mex. read more

I eat Mexican at least once a week in my home state (TX), and if this is the best Mexican that Jacksonville offers, then I feel sorry for it. It can be summed up in one word - bland. That includes the salsa, entrees, and drinks. Bland does not mean bad tasting, but it should not be used in the same sentence with Mexican.
