BUSY on a friday evening... but the food was good. good chips & salsa. Our waitress was very attentive. We had tacos & the arroz con pollo. And a kids meal quesadilla/enchilada. All were good. Me and a group of friends went here on a Friday night around six which seemed like the right time because soon after the restaurant filled up. We had a large party and didn't reserve a table before hand but they still accommodated us thankfully but if you have a party of more than 6 be sure too call ahead. The service was quick and friendly always making sure we had chips and salsa at the table and our food arrived quickly as well. I had a green burrito with lettuce and sour cream on the side. I also asked for a scoop of guacamole later on and wasn't charged. Food was great and some pretty good Mexican Cuisine from what I've had. I haven't been to any other Jacksonville Mexican locations yet but this one seems pretty solid. read more

This was my favorite location and today was the first time I've been back to Jacksonville since I moved last year so I definitely made sure I made time to stop by. The food was great and the bartender was wonderful. I was enjoying my La Maria when I noticed a cockroach crawling along the back of the bar back. The bartender wasn't there at the moment so I couldn't tell her. Then, I saw a woman from a family sitting beside me at a table near the bar smoosh another roach crawling along the bar towards me with a napkin. It was time to go. I paid, tipped the bartender and left. I pray none were whipped up in my food or crawled on the fruit in my drinks. . Have been here more than once and the food is good. The service is ok. The kitchen sucks. Food always seems to take forever to come out. Just ordered take out so hopefully could mitigate the wait. Showed up when the order was supposed to be ready. Have been sent back to my car TWICE and still have no food going on 20 minutes past when the order was said to be ready. Met a friend here for lunch today and I had never been. The parking lot was so full I had to park in a ditch. We were seated quickly even though it was during the lunch hour rush. Every time I go here it's a great experience! One time I went with my boyfriend and I decided to have a margarita (it was a special Day of the Dead one and it was delicious) and let me tell you...WELL worth my $7 for the size of the drink, and the amount of alcohol the bartender put in it. By the time we had finished our very generously-portioned and truly amazing Mexican food and were back in the car, I was laid back in the passenger seat trying to take a drunken nap because of ONE medium marg! The story still makes me laugh but the best part is that the whole experience at Mi Cabana was just flawless, and it is every time I go, large party or small! My husband and I went to this restaurant since we love Mexican and we were highly disappointed. The food was okay, but definitely better Mexican in the area. Our server, Mary, was not very helpful. We got seated quite fast, which was nice but then another server had to get our drinks because our waitress was no where to be found. We then placed our order and asked for cheese dip after waiting for over 10 minutes. We got our food fast but never received our cheese dip, my husband asked for it again, she finally brought it out but then spilled it on the table. We never got refills on our drinks, despite being out of them since the beginning of our meals. We waited over 10 minutes for the check, when we finally received it, we gave her the card right away and she put it in her smock, I've never seen any other waitress do that so it was very odd to me. But I definitely don't recommend this place. Update: I have celiac's disease, which I let the waitress know, and I ended up having one of the most severe celiac reactions I have had yet. My husband also got sick and we spent most of the night in the bathroom. read more

For Tex-Mex it's really good. My wife loves this place cause of the runny queso and I think the chicken and chorizo is really good. Plus the fajitas are very plentiful and delicious. Now that there are a few more Mexican joints in town, the wait times here are not as crazy anymore which is nice. read more

The reason why I gave two stars is because 2 stars means "Meh. I've experienced better", and this is exactly how I feel about this place. The reason why I tried this place is because many people have told me it's authentic, and the food is comparable to California. I did not find that to be true at all. I ordered a Horchata, with the 3 item dinner containing a chile relleno, soft taco and beef enchilada. I was very disappointed to find that the chile relleno was stuffed with ground beef and not cheese, it wasn't even good quality ground beef. Next, lets talk about how disappointed I was when my taco came in a flour tortilla. At this point, I am giving up all hope of anything being authentic in this place, and I go to taste my enchilada; the sauce was mediocre at best. Maybe something similar to katsup and again, stuffed with ground beef. The salsa was terrible, it tasted like it came from a jar and it wasn't spicy at all. The food, for what it is, americanized "Mexican" was just ok. For $12, I guess I can live with the fact that it didn't live up to my expectations. If you moved to Jacksonville hoping to find authentic Mexican food, even something comparable to what you had when you once lived in San Diego or other SoCal location, keep on looking. I'm biased because I live in San Diego where I literally get the best Mexican food in the United States. However, I ordered the Ceviche Tostada and everything was fresh and good. I just wasn't used to the flavors I typically get. No one in the group had any complaints and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Mi Cabana, at 1153 Western Blvd in Jacksonville, http://micabanarestaurant.com, suffers from a dreadfully cliched decor, but the food is reliably good. The salsa is fresh and flavorful, if not exactly hot. The chile relleno dish that my husband favors has been good on two separate visits. I have eaten the lengua in salsa verde, the enchilada combo and the number 2 burrito combo meal and enjoyed each one. The food is freshly prepared, generously portioned and very reasonably priced. Service is friendly and efficient. If "family friendly" is important to you, this place is. If you are looking for a quiet place for a romantic meal, look elsewhere. read more

Being the margarita enthusiast that I am I called upon the true & tried test to tell if a mexican restaurant is worth returning to...yes you guys...I sampled a margarita. When the server brought out our drinks I almost fell over the glass was huge and full of the tasty frozen delicacy! After the initial shock, we munched on chips and some great salsa. Mi Cabana is a decent option for Mexican food in Jacksonville. I have never had terrible food there, but that isn't to say that I've ever had great food there either. The food is good and a quite cost efficient, but as others have mentioned tends to be a bit bland, especially for pallets that seek spicier meals. The margaritas are huge and tasty and very generously priced as well. Two people can get dinner and drinks for just around $30, which I believe is a steal. The service is great and although there can be a wait during the weekends, it is always brief. Overall, this is a nice change of pace from other restaurants in Jacksonville that seem to rely on steaks and hamburgers to draw in customers. read more

Im Puerto Rican and this is the closest thing to Spanish food in jacksonville that I know of. I really enjoy the food here I had carnitas. Which is pork with yellow rice and beans. I'll be posting a picture up. I also had cheese sticks they give you 8 and are pretty fat lol. The carnitas were very soft and juicy. Needed a little ketchup but it could be the Spanish in me. But those of you that don't eat Spanish food may find it delicious. The waiters and waitresses are nice. oh and they give you large portions of meat I was kind of sad I wanted more rice and beans. They gave me like 1 cooking spoon of rice and 1 and a half of beans and like 3 of meat O.o other than that I enjoyed my time there my bill came out to 23dollars not bad at all for the meal drink and appetizer :) read more

So here's a question... what sort of Mexican restaurant puts American cheese on their enchiladas? I was muy disappointed. My friend ordered the tortilla soup and it tasted very similar to egg drop. I think maybe it was the amount of tortillas they use for the broth. The chips and salsa are good, but not fantastic. The service was excellent. One of my dining companions ordered a strawberry margarita that was a big as his head. My guess is he did this so the ladies would help him finish it. He guessed right. If I visit good ol' Camp Lejune again (and I hope I do), I think I'll explore elsewhere read more

I'm from San Diego, so I'm a little picky about Mexican food and I can say that I really like Mi Cabana. What's just OK - their salsa. It's not bad, but not great either. Service is sometimes great, but sometimes unfriendly. Wish it was consistently great. What I LOVE - Carne Asada Tacos, Carnitas, Enchiladas Verdes, Hot Carnitas in Salsa Verda, Taquitos Mexicanos and their guacamole. Their margaritas are good too. Maybe I went on an off day? Went there with a friend on a weeknight and we were seated the minute we came in. I ordered a plain cheese quesadilla, got a chicken one (our waiter didn't speak much english, so I could understand the confusion). It was ok, but the chicken was very dry and hard, the tortillas were a little overbaked too. Good, other than my husband almost choking on several bones in his pork taco. The waitress didn't even get a manager and made light of it, which was pretty annoying. However the food is always good so yes we won't let that stop us as no one in town can cook Mexican food. If it were to happen again the waitstaff should learn how to handle it differently than saying, "the cook said the meat has bones in it" then I have to explain it's not in the menu to pick bones out before eating. She went on and of course I stopped her because she was clueless as to what she was talking about. I'd never seen her before and she was younger. But that's no excuse. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Jacksonville NC. I always order Arroz con pollo(chicken with rice) and I add onions and bell peppers. This meal is a go to meal. I have NEVER had a bad meal here. Love this place!!!! read more
