It's been a while since I've been here. All new decor, bright, fresh and clean with a very nice outdoor patio and a new menu. Salsa was like tomato sauce with a minimal amount of heat. They brought a trio of salsa samplers - volcanic jalapeño, mild tomato, and another volcanic one so hot I can't tell what it tastes like. Chips were thick and crispy, with a few stale ones. Street corn (nibs) was very good - just a little mayo/crema, and sprinkle of seasoning. Enchiladas mole with grilled chicken means enchiladas with a bone dry piece of grilled chicken on the side, but the mole sauce was good. (I suppose I was expecting something more like fajita chicken inside the enchiladas). Chile relleno with shrimp was good, too. read more

Came in for lunch with the husband. I got the Texano rice. Added salsa to the top but really liked the flavors. My husband got the pastor fajitas. He was really happy with them. Liked the salsa as well. Will be back at dinner to taste some of the margarita. read more

The service was fast & friendly. I was impressed with the drink menu! Every drink listed had a picture of the drink next to it & they all seemed huge with a cool/creative look to them. We ordered a margarita on the rocks; it was way bigger than expected so we were able to share. They brought out complimentary chips, salsa, & a black bean dip. The black bean dip was loaded with flavor & very good, it had a hint of bacon or pork flavor too it. We ordered a small queso which was super yummy. For our entrees we had the San Luis plate & the Chile rellanos, & for desert the tres leches cake. We scarfed down the cake despite feeling overly stuffed. We overall loved everything and will definitely be back to try more! My only complaint was the silverware. This place is pretty legit. I kept seeing this place on my Facebook and it's down the street from me so I decided what's to lose. The menu has some legit Mexican food and the basics you will find at most other places so something for everyone. The drink menu has pictures of everything they offer and also a good selection listed there. This place was really reasonable. With drinks me and my mom were able to dine for less than 50 bucks including tips and we got drinks so that's not bad. They also have specials on Tuesdays and Wednesday's and possibly Thursday but I might have misread. The fajitas come full of meat and vegetables. For the price point you get a lot and you will not leave here hungry. It was also so good I forgot to take a picture. And I love taking pictures of my food lol. read more

We had been wanting to try this place because we heard the the margaritas were huge and very good. We arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday to find 4 or 5 employees milling around in the parking lot. Once inside there was only one other customer in the restaurant. They seated us right under a speaker that was playing really loud music, but we were gonna overlook that. When we received our menus we were amazed to find the prices were ridiculously high for Mexican food. They brought us chips and salsa and the chips tasted like they were fried in old oil, we decided at that point to leave. We went to the brand new Las Palmas nearby and had a very nice meal with normal prices. The whole short experience at Rio Verde was very strange. read more

Came for a visit with my family, ordered cokes server brought bottles when we asked if they had a fountain machine she said no, when we checked the menu they do but they only offer Pepsi. Next time don't say no, just say not coke. She asked if we wanted more tortillas we said no. She brought them out anyways saying the kitchen already made them and then after we paid we realized she charged us for the tortillas we did not want. I've done take out here and dine in! Take out was disappointing. Our food was mess and a lot of the stuff was hard. We did dine in not too long ago. My absolutely FAVORITE Mexican restaurant in the area. No place has as good of food as this one. The queso is perfection. The drinks are yummy, the salsa is yummy, everything about here is delectable. I always get the steak quesadillas and they are DELICIOUS. The meaty steak, the melty cheese. It's the perfect combo. Just look at the photos. No quesadilla can compete. I moved back to Gonzales from Baton Rouge this past summer and was disappointed to not be so close to my favorite mexican restaurant there. However, Mexican Grill Rio Verde is LEGIT 'bidness! This is my second time having ordered their ToGo and wowzers! The molcajete is chock full of meat and goodness and their big burrito is literally more than a foot long full of deliciousness. I was referred to this restaurant from my good friend! She said I would walk out of the restaurant with a full belly - she was right!!! I can tell you the chips and salsa was fresh and the black bean dip was yummy! The problem is that they are so good that by the time the food cake I was so full! We split the molcajete - you have to see it to believe it - it's very filling! The molcajete is made up of grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, pork, chorizo, with grilled green peppers, onions with rice, guacamole, lettuce, pico de gallo and a dollop of sour cream! It comes with tortilla and a Smoked spicy chipotle sauce! Very very good!!! Their serving and generous and can fill you up quick! The Christmas margarita was ok - it's mixed with coconut milk - it was too milky for me and not enough adult beverage! When you see locals and large groups of families coming to the place, you know it's pretty good! You need to check out their specials - taco Tuesday and 2 for 1 margarita Wednesdays! Worst mexican restaurant I've ever been to! DO NOT EAT HERE! We went on taco Tuesday for the $1 tacos- First, there was no one in the front to seat us, when someone finally came up she didn't acknowledge us she just started doing something on the computer. When we finally got seated someone took our order and the waitress never came back to our table. A man delivered our drinks- the margaritas tasted awful! They were pre-made and almost a puke green color. We waited almost 45mins for our tacos. When they finally came I didn't get what I ordered but I was starving so I tried it. I'm not sure what I was eating but it didn't taste like ground meat. Also, the guy behind the bar was tasting the margaritas then using the same glass to serve the customers! Awful! Awful! Exceptional Authentic Mexican Delights After reading the reviews we knew we had to go and try this place. We were very happy we did so. All the food was delicious and the staff is very accommodating. We ordered the following: enchilada plate, steak taco salad, pork (pastor) soft taco, the house hot sauces (free upon request-it's very hot) and a flan. Everything but the flan was exceptional and a cut above all the other places in the area that serve similar cuisine. Black bean dip was better than the salsa. Regular queso was a different consistency than choriqueso. The choriqueso was so thick it'll break your chip when you dip into it whereas the original queso is thinner and more dippable. They were out of diet coke so they brought us Dr. Pepper... I asked for a strawberry marg and got a regular. Don't come here if you care about your order being right! Good thing is, when there's live music no one can hear you complain. Worst experience at a restaurant, low quality food for a very overpriced pay, the waiters are very disrespectful and gives nasty looks. We came to eat as a family of 18 and 12 out of 18 agreed the food was very dry and distasteful and the other 6 agreed it was mediocre and very overpriced. Our guacamoles were totally two different dishes although they are both made the same the small portion shown in the image was aged as if left overnight and tasted spoiled, the table side guacamole however was made fresh yet still tasted poorly the guacamole only tasted flavorfully after I personally added ingredients to it. 0/10 would not recommend to eat here. read more

Ordered food via door dash, order was accepted by the restaurant. when the door dash driver arrived to pick my food up (was notified that the order was ready) Rio Verde refused to fulfill the order and sent the driver away empty handed with nothing more than a "sorry" Got a call from the door dash driver who was extremely apologetic for Rio Verdes actions. Drove ourselves to the restraunt who informed us that they were busy and refused to fulfill the order. while attempting to reach a resolution the lady whom we were dealing with stopped mid conversation to take a phone call. We have been loyal customers to Rio verde for a very long time and have spent hundreds of dollars ourselves and referred many many friends to the establishment as well. I tried this place yesterday and it was very good. They bring out black bean dip and salsa with tortilla chips when you sit down. The dip and salsa were both good. The waiter was nice. I ordered chile relleno with carnitas on the side. They brought out a giant plate that had the relleno and carnitas along with refried beans, rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, and sour cream. They also bring a foil wrap with warm tortillas in it. The refried beans were good. The relleno was very good. The carnitas - wow. They were so tender and juicy but crispy on the outside just like they should be. And so much flavor. I get the carnitas anytime I go to a Mexican restaurant and these were the best. The food was good, but when packing up our leftovers we requested a few extra small corn tortillas and were told they were a $1 each. A $70 tab for 2 people and we get hit with a charge for a few tortillas? We will take our money elsewhere next time. Ordered take out. Simple tacos that came floating in grease. Jalapeno poppers that were half a jalapeno with some processed yellow cheese - all in an overcooked batter. Husband ordered a plate of enchiladas. They came in a takeout contain with all the cold stuff put on top of the hot enchiladas. He only ate a few bites. All that for slightly less than $50. It was good food but a bit pricy for me. The salsa doesn't have to be so hot that you can't enjoy your meal. I want to be able to taste everything but the salsa is so hot my taste buds are on fire before I ever get my meal. We came here several times in the last few months. The food is sometimes good but lately just ok. Service has gone down tremendously. The newer staff is all younger people and they have no idea how to service people. Last 2 trips the waiters will sit back by the bar cutting up and laughing while my glass is completely empty or we need something. The manager or lack there of after 7pm is a real problem.
