Their meat smells horrible and never get the specials to go, they don't give you any condiments on your tacos,It would be safer to order chicken according to a friend of mine who eats there regularly. I called and told them their meat smells like diaper poop and the meat was burnt or very old I think they just reconstituted it. They have a really nice restaurant and friendly staff but if someone has a complaint or problem with their food they should handle it better than having a older couple to bring the food back and they will refund your money back. If that is how they are gonna be maybe they should just have a catering truck or make food on the side of the road . I am sorry if this seems rough, I just tell it like it is. The day I went it was a little busy but not too crazy. The tables were not wiped down and the waitress was a little slow - it kind of bothers me if dishes are out on several tables for a long time & it's a bad look especially if space is limited in a smaller restaurant. Also, I noticed that I absolutely do not like their pastor meat. It has this funny taste and is in a reddish sauce - I had to go back and get the tacos again to make sure because the last visit - the asada was super dry. Great rustic food. Straight forward and authentic. Homemade tortillas. Great chips and salsa. The atmosphere is lacking. Overlook it. It's worth it. I always get El Parian (marinated grilled pork, grilled onions, grilled cactus, sliced cheese, beans, with homemade tortillas. Great). If you like authentic Mexican food and aren't freaked out by eating cactus (it's good, btw), this is a great find. The mole poblano is also really good. My favorite place to eat in Ogden when I visit. A welcome relief to all the chain restaurants. They just need better lighting and more customers. Try it out. read more

If your experience with gorditas has only been in Taco Bell, you're in for a treat. Their salsa that comes with chips is outstanding. This is serious Mexican food made by talented Mexican chefs. Also, it's the only place I've ever been that does legit jamaica juice - fresh and complex-sweet, not watery purple koolaid. Been here many times, and always impressed! Sadly this was the worst Mexican food experience we have ever had. The chicken chimichanga was 90% refried beans and came out on a nearly flat fried tortilla, looked more like a pancake. No resemblance of a chimichanga. My carne asada burrito was to have a red enchilada sauce with cheese over the top. Instead, I received a bean and rice burrito with perhaps a tablespoon of some kind of beef but it was not carne asada (grilled skirt or sirloin steak). Came out with a green chili sauce, not the red enchilada sauce I had ordered. There was no cheese. Unfortunately, we ordered take out and it was a complete disappointment when we opened the food containers, having had such high hopes of enjoying our evening meal. Especially thinking this positive way, from previously reading highly rated reviews before choosing to place a food order at this establishment. We are originally from Tucson and are very familiar with Mexican food. Perhaps, the cook was new? I was the only patron in the establishment when I placed our order so it was not due to some rush. Regardless, it was a huge disappointment and my husband who can not eat beans had to throw his away. I really do not like having to write a bad review for any place and rarely do. We almost didn't go in... We pulled up to the back parking lot and the glass door was smeared with greasy hand prints. Not too appetizing. However, given the great reviews and the recommendation from a friend, we decided we had to try it anyway. We drove around to the front instead where the door was a little more welcoming. Our waitress was friendly, if uninformed. She admitted she was new. Everyone says the food is authentic. Problem is, I'm not sure that's a compliment. It was OK, but not quite what we expected or hoped for, but maybe that's just because we are gringos and don't know what authentic really is. If I had it to do over, we'd probably go down the street to El Matador, the Sonora Grill, or even Café Rio. I ordered the Chili Rellenos - the daily special for Tuesday. Price was plainly shown at $7.99. When we got our bill, however, it was shown at $9.99. I pointed out the error to our waitress as we were paying. She spoke with the manager (in Spanish, but I got the idea) who answered us in English, "We have changed our prices". If so, might be nice to change the menu, too. They honored the menu price, but made me feel like they were doing me a favor to do so. Not cool, and leaves that nagging doubt about whether the overcharge was an honest mistake - or maybe a convenient "accident"(?) (I'll choose to believe the former -- I think.) In any case, I wish them success. Obviously, they are doing something right based on most reviews. Probably not the right place for us, however. read more

I though this place was pretty great for a little Mexican hole-in-wall joint. I felt like the food was more "Mexican" than most places you'll find around. It didn't look like the cleanest place in the world but I didn't mind it. I got a couple different tacos and a gordita. My tacos came right out but my gordita took FOREVER! It was to the point that I was convinced they forgot it and I was going to have to remind them. I ordered a lengua (cow tongue) taco and it was good. I'm a big fan of lengua and this was some of my favorite. I love the condiment bar they have to dress up your tacos. What I was really impressed with was their horchata. It was amazing and we had a really friendly waitress who always made sure we were doing well and since we were friendly back she gave us the horchata for free. Great company and great service. Really good hole-in-the-wall, greasy spoon, super authentic Mexican restaurant. There was a fun Spanish radio station piped in, decor was all very authentic, there were typical non-native English speaker misspellings on the menu -- it was legit in all the best ways. My chicken tacos were OUT OF THIS WORLD good! Seriously - hands down THE best chicken tacos I've ever had. I crave them every time we drive by (which is a lot). M husband got the enchiladas and they were very mediocre. We both decided if we go back, we'd just get those chicken tacos. In the time we were there, five other people came to the to-go counter and ordered those chicken tacos. Clearly that was the best thing they had -- point for me for ordering the winner!! Service was pretty slow and as first timers, we didn't quite understand the "go up to the candy counter to pay" system so we ended up sitting there for a while waiting for our check. AMAZING!!!! I was a Spanish speaking missionary more than 12 years ago and this was the best most authentic Mexican food I have had since then! I have eaten at this restaurant several times. I have always had really good food and friendly service. I have read through the reviews and can relate to all the positive ones. Some of the negative ones I find misleading as I have come to know this place very well and believe that the tip was an honest mistake and that the people that relate this restaurant to cafe rio or Sanora grill do Not know what real Mexican food is and should stick to their Mexican American restaurants but if you want authentic delicious Real Mexican food this place is for you. This is by far my favorite restaurant for Mexican food. I travel to Mexico City at least 4 times a year and this is the real deal. Love their tacos al pastor and their salsa.
