I'm from So Cal. I live pretty close to the bordet And grew up in Hispanic areas. I like to think I know good Mexican food when I eat it. And this....is it. EVERYTHING was fantastic!!!! Sooooooo much flavor in every dish. The meat, sauce, onions, cilantro.... Everything had a clean straight up flavor. The meat was a great quality and small cut for easy eating. I stopped in with a friend for dinner the other day. I immediately noticed how expensive everything is now. When I first started going when they first opened the prices were not as high. The prices are mid teens for most dinners. That would be fine if it was a nice or elaborate restaurant but it isnt. It is sparsely decorated in a strip mall business. I had a lamb and shrimp taco. At first I was excited. The place has 4.8 stars and it was fairly busy--though there was plenty of wait staff (our server was pretty noncommittal to her job). There was cojita cheese on top of the enchiladas! And the excitement died after that first bite. It didn't just die. Rather, it made that farty, leaky balloon sound. Two stars because the only thing worth eating were the beans, rice, and salsa. The Jalisco enchiladas (with ground beef) were inedible and the only discernible spice used was black pepper. Seriously. Maybe I should have asked for a cup of their salsa to dump on my dinner. I thought that maybe "Jalisco" at this place meant "for people with that think black pepper is spicy", so I tried my husband's and they, too, were depressing. The service sucked. We waited 15 minutes for our iced tea (after we sat there for at least that long after we were seated), and I stopped checking my watch while we waited to order. This place is fantastic. It's as authentic Mexican as you'll get around here sans the taco trucks. Oscar is incredibly sweet and will do his best to accommodate you and make sure you thoroughly enjoyed your food. Mexican food tends to be one of those things people get snobby about and think they are the Jedi Masters of what good is, but for what it's worth, I was born and raised in So Cal and I happen to think this place is awesome. Try their mole...it's pretty tasty. Good assortment of beers and they also started serving liquor but I have yet to try anything. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you - this place is awesome! We had 8 people in our party; we all ordered something different and we were each completely satisfied with our meal. But, in all actuality, that wasn't the case. I ordered the chimichanga and enchilada combo. I hate lettuce so I ordered this without the veggies. The chimichanga was crispy and flaky, more of a pastry dough than a tortilla.. It was weird, but the filling was even weirder. The filling did have chicken in it but it also had an assortment of veggies like carrots and celery... It was like eating a chicken pot pie- Mexican style. It was okay, just not what I was expecting. The enchilada was not tasty and I'm almost positive that it had the same filling as the chimichanga. Hah! The rice was soggy and bland. The beans were... Well, beans. This place is a hot mess - not sure if they are in the middle of a construction or what, but black tarps cover the walls, seats have tears in them, tables weren't clean and dirty napkins are all over. My utensils weren't properly cleaned and you could see little pieces of food stuck on it. Half of my food is going to waste cause in all honesty, it just wasn't that great. :( The service is SUPER fast though. It was worth the detour! We found favorable reviews on Yelp as we were hungrily driving up I-5 from Portland. Everything we ordered was good, fresh, warm. Everything had that homemade taste. Service was great from the owners and their daughter. this family-owned restaurant had a homey feel. you get free tortillas and salsa. We ordered the Monday special, which was tacos carnitas or carne asada (carnitas was my fave, especially flavorful, even at the first bite!). My parents in law came here yesterday for dinner. Before ordering, they asked the server if they do military discount and she said yes. The bill later came and no discount was given. When my father in law asked, they came back and said that they don't do military discounts anymore. No apologies were given for the miscommunication. Everything was amazing! From my carne asada salad to my husbands DLX red burro! My brother in law got the taco salad and my sister got the carne asada plate with a chili relleno. We are really picky about Mexican food because where we're from, we have some of the best, by this place is just as good. We just moved from Arizona a few months ago and I was worried we'd never find a place that we liked. Our search is over! The staff is very friendly and accommodating too. There was even an owner/manager that went around to all the tables to make sure the food was good. I would come back to this place again even though it's 30 mins from my house! Best Mexican food I've found in Oly thus far aside from California Taco Truck.This family run restaurant in the middle of a strip mall is easy to miss- don't miss it. Pretty anonymous feel but the personalities of the owners definitely compensate for that. Lots of booths, tables, and chairs. During our visit on a weekend afternoon, there were only a few other patrons present. Large menu with dishes you expect as well as more traditional options. I ordered the mole, while my friends ordered the cubano torta and an enchilada combo. All dishes were well received, and the owner came by multiple times to talk, seek out feedback, and make us feel welcome. I highly recommend the mole, but I hear the tortas are the thing here, and they are huge! Tortillas were homemade, and a little greasy in my opinion, which was kinda strange. I know how to make tortillas, I know they don't have oil, I don't know why these seemed greasy. Either way, they were good and they held the mole filling, which is what I needed them for. One went right into the kitchen to grab more plates to serve and the other grabbed clean napkins and silverware for another family. We asked them to box our food before plating so we could go (it wasn't made yet- we had already been waiting). I didn't eat my food. I was just disgusted and wanted to leave. Will never go back. Our first Mexican place in Washington since our move from California, and it was pretty on point. Their chips and salsa are great. Horchata was very refreshing as well. Ordered Chile Colorado, it's a really big plate, you could easily split it. Also ordered Pozole. It wasn't my favorite, I would have enjoyed with more red chile. My family got taquitos and jalapeño dip burrito and asada fries. They enjoyed those as well. Service was very friendly. Has great dining atmosphere, it doesn't feel like a run down hole in the wall. This is a pretty small strip mall restaurant. Nothing too fancy, a great neighborhood place. I really liked the service and they have a great horchata. The menu is pretty big! We ordered the Carne Asado y Mas and the #18 combo with cheese enchilada and a chille relleno. First of all, I thought the rice and beans were a 10/10. I liked the salsa they brought to the table with chips when we sat down as well. The real star though was the carne asada! It was delicious!! I would come back just for that! My #18 was ok. I think it had the traditional sauce and it was nice, just not anything special. A little too bland and got lost on my enchilada and chille relleno.
