We had a great experience at El Sitio overall and would absolutely return. We ordered family-style for a party of 8, and honestly, we were nearly full just off the appetizers alone. Everything was flavorful, well-presented, and perfect for sharing. The tableside guacamole experience was the only dish that fell a little flat for us; it was a bit bland compared to everything else and didn't quite live up to the hype. By the time the entrées arrived, we were already stuffed but the food was so delicious it was hard to put the fork down. Every dish was a hit, and we ended up with plenty to take home. Bonus points: everything reheated really well the next day. The drinks were also solid, well-balanced, and enjoyable throughout the night. Our server was fantastic, super friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations. Every suggestion they made was a win. The biggest downside of the night was the initial arrival experience. We had reservations and arrived a bit early to check in. Despite an empty table right in front of us, we waited about six minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Several employees walked right past without eye contact or even a quick "we'll be right with you." Six minutes may not sound long, but it feels like a lifetime when you're being completely ignored. We didn't mind waiting, it was the lack of acknowledgment that was frustrating. This seemed to be a common issue, as other guests waiting to be seated were clearly growing frustrated as well. As a large party, we expected the food to take some time, which was totally fine. Apps came out quickly, but when it came to the entrées, smaller tables that ordered after us were served first. It felt like smaller tables were prioritized to move food out faster, even though our meals could have reasonably come out within that same window. Despite those service hiccups, we truly had a great time. Everyone loved the angel wings at the entrance and the gingerbread display in the hallway, which added such a fun, festive touch. My husband and I have come across several ads online for this place so we finally decided to eat there for the first time last month for our anniversary. Lets just say it was good to give them a try, but I unfortunately don't see us returning any time soon. Not to mention, parking was atrocious since it's in Downtown Oly, so we were driving around for about 5-10 minutes just to find street parking available a few blocks away. The customer service, I will say, was outstanding from the time I made a reservation in advance (the person I spoke with on the phone was very pleasant) to being greeted when we entered the restaurant and getting to interact with our waitress for the rest of the evening. Everyone was very nice, which was wonderful and something I would expect from an establishment in which the aesthetic and menu are on the "upscale" side. Our waitress, Laura, was very helpful and patient with us since we couldn't decide on what we wanted to try. Since bone marrow was on the menu and we had never had it before, we ordered this to share. Realistically, the portion isn't exactly best to share between two people; if it was just me I could've eaten all of it by myself. It was good though and the flavor wasn't too overwhelming. I guess I just wasn't expecting it to be small. We ultimately ordered the Parrillada to share which came with a lot of different meats and sides. Upon first impression, it was pretty impressive, but after eating through some of it along with the sides we were a little disappointed. Although the chicken was flavorful, it was dry and not really fun to eat. The beans and rice portion compared to all the meats you get was lacking, I was surprised that they provided so little of each in just small bowls; how do you expect to share that between 2 or more people at the table? The Papa Al Horno was honestly the best-tasting thing we had on the table; the portion was just right, everything was flavorful and juicy. We shared a churro cheesecake (I believe this was a special?) which was pretty small in size, but good nonetheless. The overall feel for our meal was just average. I love Mexican food, but in comparison to other places I think you could get just as good or better food from a family-run hole-in-the-wall find. Who knows, maybe one day we'll give this place another shot, maybe we just needed to try some of their other items instead. read more

The Asada and the Al Pastor tacos had the same crema on both of them which was more spicy than usual cremas and make it inedible for people who don't like a lot of spice on their tacos. This was our first time, and I didn't know where to go once we walked into the open area. The door handle is low. Parking is free after 5 pm. Parking can be scarce, and you may need to park a few streets away. This restaurant is located across from the park. They have outside the main door a cute photo opportunity with wings/halo and the name of the restaurant. The restrooms are decorated like tiki huts. I look forward to going in for a full meal sometime soon. Service was great and prompt. I expected the inside to be a little fancier for what I had seen from the ads and the fancy menu items. Their skinny margaritas is where it's at! Only natural good stuff and they're yummy! The molcajete's have a nice broth to them (with chorizo) but they do lack the chunk of queso fresco I'm used to. The menu says cheese but it's more like a sprinkle. :( The meats are often over cooked too. Sometimes the shrimp are mushy they're so over cooked. If it weren't for the great flavor of the broth, I'd say RUN. Their beans and rice are great and their green salsa is flavorful too. They offer a salsa trio but the red salsa lacks flavor and the creamy salsa is like something you'd want with fried calamari. I do really like their chile rellenos. The serving is quite large and the batter on the chile is nice. It's not too eggy and has flavor. They use more like a Jack cheese inside (no meat) and that's exactly how I love it. The staff is so wonderful! They're talkative and just welcoming and friendly. It's a open dining room with a mix of booths along the sides and individual chairs in the center of the room. There's no AC so they open the windows to allow air flow which is usually just fine even on hotter days. Overall, I think this is a fun place to take out of towners for drinks and something different. There's a cute photo op piece just outside the front entrance that is great for the 'gram. Reservations are recommended in the evening hours. Daytime is usually fine to walk in. A Saturday night will get you a laugh even if you try to stop for a drink (happened to me once, couldn't even sit at bar). read more

3.5 really. We went on a Monday with a couple friends for a birthday celebration. I really enjoy the historic building it is in. The huge windows and ambiance are good. It took a long time to get drinks. Our server had to make the drinks because there was no dedicated bar tender. The Margaritas were good. We would have all had another, but we got our drinks so late, and then weren't asked again until late in the meal. They do jot have free chips and salsa, so if you want an appetizer you need to order it. We shared queso and table side guacamole. Our servers hair was so long it kept brushing the chips and I was worried it would go in the guac. It would be nice if she would pull it back so it didn't touch the food. The queso had chorizo in it, but the cheese sauce lacked flavor. The guac was fresh and was fine. They brought the appetizers on bamboo cutting boards and boards for plates. I thought that was a little weird. Plus, two of our boards were cracked, which seems unsanitary when food can get down into the cracks. I would have preferred plates. My friend ordered the Piña Al Pastor. She thought it was delicious. I had the chili relleno and it was good. I would have preferred to get some salsa to turn up the flavor a bit. Enchiladas were ordered and they were prepared more like saucy tacos, but they were enjoyed. My parter had the discada. He enjoyed it, but said it was pretty greasy. We did not have the steaks which is one of their drawing points according to other diners. It is relatively expensive. I did enjoy my entree and would go back again to try something else. read more

Some of the options were a bit more fancier then I normally order, but good on you if that's your preference. Our waitress was Rom. She was knowledgeable about the whole menu and delightful. She didn't bug us constantly. The decor is decent. It's a bit of a moodier decor but it fit with the cuisine. The only reason I knocked off a star is not really due to them but when coming in we had to run the gauntlet of homeless and when leaving someone felt their butt nugget singing at the top of their lungs Frozen over and over was cute. Came here to treat my wife for Mother's Day after shopping at Dree's around the corner. I heard good things about the restaurant and they were all true. I was not impressed. I ordered the Pina al pastor which is meat inside a pineapple. It felt like soup inside the pineapple due to all the liquid. Between the pineapple, meat, salsa, and refried beans, everything seemed under seasoned and lacking flavor depth. The portion of beans and salsa did not match the price point for the pineapple soup. We eat at El Sitio nearly monthly. The staff is friendly and attentive (shout out to Rom, Ricky & Santiago). The atmosphere is relaxed. We love the molcajete which my husband and I share and then have leftovers. I love the sauce in the bowl. (Molcajete has beef, chicken, shrimp, pork.) We recently tried the parrillada which is huge and will have leftovers for days! (Parrillada has carne asada, chicken, pork, short ribs, chorizo and quesadillas.) The table side guacamole is so fresh. Ricky makes the best margaritas ever! The salsa is amazing and unique. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. read more

Hands down the #1 place we have eaten in all of Washington state. We have lived here almost 2 years and this is now a place we hope to visit again and again. The food was delicious! My Cielo Mar Y Tierra molcajete was better tasting than words can describe. The Tomahawk was so perfectly cooked and tasty. No steak sauce is needed here. The beans were great, almost a meaty texture. The tortillas, both corn and flour, were soft and appetizing. The location itself is beautiful. I thought this place would be better than it was, the place has so much potential. We came to El Sitio for lunch and it was our first time here. The waiter came to take our drink order and since I didn't have my coffee yet at that point I asked if they had coffee. The waiter said they had "instant" coffee, really, because you can get a Mr. Coffee machine on Amazon for $25. How do they make the espresso martini's, with instant coffee crystals I guess. This is something they could easily change for $25. The best thing we had were the chips with salsa and pico. When we received that we had high hopes for the rest of our meal. That only lasted until the next item arrived at the table and that was the wedge salad. OMG!!! This is not even close to a wedge salad (see photo), it is more like a fajita salad. When have you ever had grilled pepper and onions on a wedge salad? The hot peppers and onions ruined a cold salad. A wedge is a simple salad with blue cheese, bacon and tomato. This had grilled pepper, onions, fresh chopped green onions and tomoto. The cheese looked like cotija or parmesan and the dressing was similar to a buttermilk ranch. We didn't enjoy it and the waiter kindly had it removed from the bill. My husband ordered the birria quesadilla because he was hoping it was close to a birria taco. He said it tasted like a greasy birria taco which is understandable because of all of the cheese on it. He also mentioned it was mushy meat and not shredded beef. I ordered the octopus tacos and I was highly disappointed by what arrived at the table. Once again, grilled onions and peppers (I get heartburn from cooked peppers so they came off immediately). Once I took the onion and pepper off that left me with chopped up little pieces of octopus and grilled onion. Thankfully my husband's plate had rice and cilantro and my plate had beans and pico, so I put all of that on the tacos so I had something to eat. I ate 2 tacos and left the 3rd. Honestly, it was work to eat the tacos but I didn't want to leave hungry. I read the one star reviews of this place and a lot of the reviews mentioned how long service took. I will say I thought it was a little crazy to have such a big space with one cook and one waiter, of course service is going to be slow. Our waiter was super nice and welcoming. I'm not sure how long ago this place opened but there are a lot of easy fixes that can happen to make it a better experience for everyone. read more
