I found myself in Barnwell, SC and my guys had already found Mi Rancho. We had a break for lunch and they wanted Mi Rancho for the second day in a row. The restaurant is very basic but pleasant and open. Since it was ridiculously hot outside, I appreciated that they had the shop nice and cool. We ordered the macho burrito and fajita beef burrito along with queso. The burritos were huge and very good. The queso was good, as well. The server was polite and attentive. Food is cheap. Service fair. Chips and salsa need more flavor. Order was wrong. Too much chlorine smell. But most of all need soap in the soap dispenser. read more

Authentic Mexican cuisine, good prices, and friendly, efficient servers! We eat here every week or two.

Not sure why this has bad reviews, the food and service in our experience was great. Also if this place is so bad there was certainly a lot of people in here. Would we go back - probably if we are ever out this way again. read more

Ate at Mi Rancho twice while in the Barnwell area recently. The chips and salsa tasted great and were brought out quickly after we were seated at our table. I got the #8 (chicken quesadilla with rice and beans) both days. Their lunch menu items are very reasonably priced. While the quesadilla tasted very good, it would be nice to have sour cream or guacamole on the side. Good food, great price, and food got out to us quickly. read more

This was our first time at the establishment and I'll say that unfortunately it will be our last time. There was a hair in my so stop fries, the food was bland Abbas our waiter was not on point. We waited over 20 mins before he came back around to get our order, never got refills on our drinks and didn't bring the check. We had to go search to find out where to pay. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. My family and I went to eat there today. We have not eaten here in a long time (6 months +) because it had gone hill badly. We decided to give it another shot, since another Mexican Restaurant had came to town and we thought that maybe they would have stepped up their game. It was very busy and we were pleasantly surprised that they had removed the horrible carpet and replaced it with ceramic tiles. After we sat down, it took over 15 minutes to be recognized. We finally got menus and they smelled of old rotten dish water. It was sickening. We finally got chips and dip. Asked for sweet tea, it was unsweet. Never received straws. Placed our order and when the food came it was COLD. HORRIBLE. Never got a refill on a drink, even after asking. WILL NEVER GO BACK. read more

Like the poster before me, I too am from Southern California and am very critical when it comes to Mexican food. Mi Rancho has the standard Mexican fare that your used to seeing, but they strive in the area of service. I've never had a bad experience at this location. The wait staff has always been pleasant and fast. One of my (new) favorite entrees now is their Macho Nachos. The carne asada (marinated and grilled flank steak for the uninitiated) was fairly close to the San Diego style carne asada that haunts me from my youth. But the bacon they put on these nachos really makes the dish sing. It gives it a nice smokey flavor that I wouldn't think goes well with nachos, but makes them that much more savory. read more

Chile relleno is my go to dish here. My version of it makes use of some of the salsa they bring to your table with chips, as well as the re-fried beans and rice mixed together. A close second is the spinach salad. I forgot what exactly it consists of, but great combination. read more

HORRIBLE. Why do I have to even give this a star???? Glad another Mexican restaurant has come to Barnwell. We've found hairs in our food. Ground beef that was either not fully cooked or smelt old. SLOW SERVICE. But the last straw was when my fiance and I came here about 3 weeks ago. We sat for over 10 mins wating to even be recognized. I wanted to leave then. Ordered. Whatever. Food came and it had stuff we didn't want on it. No big deal. We sent it back and our "NEW" food was the old food with all the messy toppings scooped off! I believe that Mexican cuisine in the South, and on the entire east coast, for that matter, is inferior to that found out west, but I decided to give Mi Rancho a try. It has an extensive menu, great tortilla chips and a nice hot salsa upon request. It also has a number of top-shelf tequilas, and the Dos Equis on draft is nicely carbonated. I enjoyed my dinner very much on my first and several visits thereafter. On my first visit, our waiter had a very high opinion of himself and actually had the nerve to call me a "maricon" to my face even though I was there with my ladyfriend. The manager/owner is a very grim-looking woman, due in part to fact that the father of her child was unable to re-enter the United States. Also, at least half a dozen all male staff mill around the bar watching spanish language music videos or futbol games while toddler children run screaming up and down the aisles unmanaged. Real down-home, smokey Southern-Mexican kind of dump. Our last visit on 09/30/2010 ended when I asked that our server box my nearly-full plate while my ladyfriend and I pounded a few more shooters. When the bill came I asked for my leftovers. He said that he hadn't any. I spoke to the manager and she claimed that the plate was "empty" when he brought it from our table. We left. A cantina is more than just about the food, and unless Mi Rancho has made major improvements, it will let you down if you are looking for the real thing. read more

Growing up in Southern California, my perception of Mexican food has always been spoiled by the numerous great hole-in-the wall places in the area. Living in South Carolina has boosted my appreciation of how good Mexican food is difficult to come by. Mi Rancho is a chain restaurant in the Aiken/Augusta/Barnwell areas. In terms of popularity, it is probably one of the best places for Mexican food in the entire state (sad, but true). One of their simple and tasty entrees is their "Speedy Gonzales" platter, which consists of some red rice, taco, enchilada, and some refried beans. Oh yeah, don't forget the chips, salsa, and the sweet tea. Their enchilada plates are plentiful and are quite delicious. However, remember that since it's the South, the portions can tend to be larger and/or fattier. The service at the place is quite good. The Southern hospitality rubs off well in most parts of South Carolina and Georgia. Service is always good at Mi Rancho and they always take care of you. As I mentioned before, the taste is not comparable to that of Southern California Mexican food, but the service will make you wish that the other places do what they do. Definitely stop by this place when going into town. It's more or less the first restaurant in town on the main road. read more
