My husband and I stopped in for lunch while spending the day at The Wharf. We were seated on the third floor with wonderful views of the Patomac River. After we were seated, our waitress was by right away and was friendly and attentive. My husband and I were going on a dinner cruise later that night, so we wanted to find something light to share for lunch. Upon reviewing the menu, we decided on the enchiladas suzia. Can I start by saying that they have a HAPPY HOUR that is from 11:30-7!!!!! The mango margarita was so good. Omg. lol. I also ate 3 carne tacos and they were everything! Came to Mi Vida before a show at the Anthem and had a great experience. It was busy for the middle of the week but we had a reservation so were all set to sit upstairs near the window. Our server, Orlando, immediately made my night and had the best energy. I started with the Mezcal Classic and made it spicy which spicy it was!! It was good but very spicy so the salty tortilla chips were much needed. The drink was also lacking in the tajín and salt rim (pictured). Everyone on Yelp recommended the Zarape de Pato and it did not disappoint! I ordered that as my main with the veggies of the day which were delicious beats with some queso fresca. Came here as a last resort and quickly realized it should have been a first option! As I walked in I couldn't believe how nice it was. The decor and dimmed lighting really set he vibe for a romantic date night. This was a Thursday night and it was pretty busy. At times it was hard to catch or waiter attention. We started with the chips and salsa as an appetizer. The salsa was amazing! Very fresh and just the right amount of spicy. I decided to try the ribeye norteno with a side of esquites. I requested my steak to be prepared medium well and it was a little more on the medium rare side but still great. It comes with beans that were average and fresh guacamole. The esquites was fresh but could have been a little spicer in my opinion. The had great desert options but I was too full to try them. Ugh, as you can see from my previous reviews, I used to be a big fan of Mi Vida (I've been going for 6 years!). Unfortunately I went back last night with a friend and was severely disappointed. Everything was so salty, overpriced (even taking into account that this is the wharf), and just overall not what it used to be. I also ordered a margarita that was over $13, but the glass was mostly ice, and it was weak. Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever go back and cannot recommend it to anyone. read more

While visiting DC for a concert, I realized my hotel was near The Wharf so I wandered around until I found a hipster happening area with great restaurants and cute shops. I stumbled upon Mi Vida, as well as the inKind app that offered me a $25 discount at nearby restaurants. I started with the Platanos Fritos which was an abundant helping of fried plantains, crema and cotija cheese for only $6.25. Then I enjoyed the Esquites and chips and guacamole. My dinner date thoroughly enjoyed the Chamorro entree. It was a huge pork shank cooked to perfection with seasoning and a crispy fried skin. Yummers! Every taste to touch our lips was delicioso. The service was fantastic, as well. We were lucky to get outdoor seating on the patio overlooking the water. Friends were out of town and I wanted to take out to a restaurant with beautiful views and excellent food. We only dined here once before the pandemic and remembered how superb the food was. It was a packed Saturday night at the restaurant. The restaurant was as beautiful as I last remembered it. Our service was excellent. I ordered fried fish tacos, and others ordered soup, mole in enchiladas, and salmon dish. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Overall the experience and quality of food of fish tacos was more like a 3.5. Having experienced better fish tacos and newer Mexican restaurants in the city, Mi Vida may be ranked farther down on my list now. Also for those unaware, the restaurant does charge an extra initiation 82 service fee (which is fine). But I have issue with having to pay post-tip on this fee and the tax. I just love this establishment and being that the weather is getting nicer in DC it's a great time for you to grab outdoor seating. I ordered one of the cocktails and it was delicious, flavorful and refreshing with a nice spritz to it at the end. For my dish I had the birria quesadilla that was flavorful, would highly recommend. Only down side is that the quesadilla wasn't crispy on both sides. The side laying down on the plate was soggy. I got to try the seafood empanada my friend ordered, wasn't a fan but I hear the mushroom one was amazing. The server was really attentive which I appreciated and allowed us to split the check which is always a plus when you have a large party paying with multiple cards. We had made reservations for 5 on a Saturday night for dinner. Mi Vida has gorgeous exteriors and interiors. You can spot it from a mile away because of the colorful painting on the exterior and large MI VIDA sign. Love the decor and the stairs that took us to a floating illusion dining table. It was really cool having a table that felt very private as it was tucked close to the stairs but also we had a lot of privacy and we're far from other tables. We didn't order any starters for the table as everyone wanted to go ahead and order entrees. I got the carne asada tacos and platanitos Fritos which were divine. Great potion size as well. My friends got the fish taco, the burger, and carne asada platter. We also got the frozen mango and passion fruit margarita and mezcal margarita which were divine and definitely snuck up on us. After having a drink at the Easy Company Wine Bar, we decided to eat somewhere else while waiting for a friend. Originally we planned to go to La Vie but decided to stay on the first floor of Mi Vida because of the service alone! Everyone we encounter was really nice and willing to help, including the patrons. My party needed a third chair at the bar and a gentleman offered his. They were nice and continued to make conversation the entire night and even taught me some Spanish. The entire layout was aesthetically appealing and the low light gave the place and entire sophisticated vibe, and I was feeling it. I really didn't get great pictures because I was actually living in the moment and making conversation with everyone around me. This Mexican influenced restaurant was delicious! I was actually surprised being located on the Wharf but everything was good. My guacamole tasted freshly made and had the right amount of everything required to make guacamole! I was going to stop there because I wasn't too hungry but I was curious about the tacos at this point. I played it safe and ordered Carne Asada tacos and it was perfection. I ate all three and left no crumbs. Lol! The perfect size and right amount of onions and cilantro. They were a little stingy with the lime but my new friend taught me how to ask for more in Spanish, and then I received a lot more limes. This is a place I can definitely go to on the regular. We had a group of 4 for brunch. First, service was fantastic. We were lucky to have Larry. He was super friendly, make some good recommendations, and kept drinks and iced coffees coming. The seafood empanadas were so tasty. Good guac. I had a steak salad (forget the actual name) that was light & delicious. The others enjoyed their fish & burritos. We went big and got the dessert platter that had every dessert on it. 3 out of 4 originally didn't want dessert...yeah right ;). We sat on the top floor; no one mentioned the elevator--just follow me. FYI, there is an elevator. The food is typical--nothing remarkable. It was slightly overcooked and smoother in the cheese--more of a quick-bite place like fast food. The black beans and rice were dry--the appetizers, salsa, and guacamole. The salsa had an aftertaste but was well-spiced. The guacamole was delicious, and everyone filled up on that. Drinks were disappointing--a standard margarita that was watered down. I've been here before and service can vary depending on how busy the restaurant is but we had generally good servers this time! I had the guac which didn't stand out to me but was still good and the atún ceviche surprised me. Yes it was raw but very seasoned with large cuts of fruit. Was just an OK meal at Mi Vida. For starters the salsa was an extra charge (just to have salsa at the table) and it was quite a bit sour for our taste. I then had an enchilada and the wait staff warned us it was spicy and could not be altered. I am ok with spicy but the sauce again was a bit sour. It turns out the manager mentioned that the sauce is basically their salsa combined with some cream so I guess that explains moving from one sour item to another. We did ask the waitress if we could have the Enchilada sauce on the side since it could not be made less spicy - she indicated that is not allowed at the restaurant, since an "enchilada without sauce is not an enchilada". The manager also explained the chef will not yield by putting the sauce on the side. Happiness is when you arrive here for happy hour. Totally worth it. A pitcher of such a refreshing drink with strawberries -- $34 for a pitcher! I think it was about 3 glasses for both of us. Two tacos for $9 and then nachos..! We kept drinking and after a while thought we should split enchiladas. A wonderful idea since suddenly we were leaving 830. I really want to give this place five stars because the food was amazing but the staff left a lot to be desired so my review will fall in the middle. I'll start with the good, location was great, parking (once we found the garage) was easy and getting seated was quick. I had a Mez-skull which was delicious and the perfect balance for a mezcal drink, Queso and a Quesabirra all delicious and seasoned well. I wouldn't change my meal for anything and will be back for more. The not so good, the staff questioned our every decision as though we'd never had Mexican food or didn't know what the words on the menu meant.
