Attached is a 2 min video showing the "new" tires I got from Miami Beach Bicycle Center. As the video explains, these tires do not appear to be new. On June 18 I had a fall in my road bike, mainly used for commuting from work or to my car parked miles from where I live. My usual bike guy was closed & doesn't have spare tires. Injured, I walked to the above bike shop. I was told new basic tires are $40 each. I inquired about better tires, and was told they are $50 each. I then asked for the better tires. I truly had no clue what kind of tires a good/bad for a bicycle. I got my bike mainly as a quick commuter. Shortly after leaving the shop, the front tire seemed low on air. The back tire nearly the same. When I got home, the tire pressures were low. I put air in them but they just rode terrible. Two days later, even after placing air in tires, I got a puncture. Had my bike guy swing by and he confirmed with me what I suspected, that these tires were in fact used, not new. The tires felt rough even with low pressure. They gave me no confidence and were especially bad in the wet. Admittedly I know little about bikes and didn't even know about inner tubes. So after educating myself, I got much better tires for around $65 each and better inner tubes and had my bike guy do the install. The bike rides better. I gave two stars because even though I was sold what appears to be used tires for the price of new ones at least these guys were polite. The tires they sold me run about $55 online so it isn't as though they discounted the used tires for me. In my experience, Miami is a terrible place for a consumer. In Miami, if you pay for a product/service and you are charged a fair price but get quality results it's almost a shock. Conversely if you get poor services or get cheated it's not that surprising. In this case what upsets me is that I'm not getting a haircut, or a car wash's poor service in these examples won't leave you potentially injured. When you're traveling on average 20mph on a bike in busy urban traffic, it's important to have reliable service and parts on that bike. Failure to do so can be potentially fatal. And bike tires are important. So I don't believe my rating nor disappointment is harsh or exaggerated. read more

This is the kind of place that tourists will likely frequent, but they focus on serving and providing a great experience to their local riders. My friend and I came to rent some road bikes for a day to just explore the beach front a do a little weaving in and out of city traffic. The clerk informed us that the road bikes probably won't be available because there's a local event happening. I'm thinking to myself, "well we're in the store now; are they available or not?" Nevertheless, who cares? I'll save some money and go with their more often rented daily rentals which he tells us to go outside and look at the ones on the bike rack in front of the store baking in the warm Miami sun. I wish, I took a picture of the rack (sorry). They look like a collection of freshly stolen bikes which haven't been serviced in awhile. Most of them had squeaky breaks or noisy chains. We found what we thought were two decent hybrid bikes. We were only planning to do anywhere from 25-40 miles and we cycle often so two less than desirable bikes wouldn't hurt for a day. We did 30 miles. My bike turned out to be okay. My friend's bike had a chain issue and I had to put it back on a time or two and a couple of the gears would not work for her so she struggled a bit but life goes on. The next day upon returning the bikes, I mentioned the issues and basically got an, "oh, okay." Also, while waiting in line to return the bikes, a more local guy walks in and the clerk walks directly by us to welcome him and service his needs as we continue to wait to simply return our bikes. The experience probably won't be great here if you're a tourist but they have bikes if you just want to rent a bike while on vacation. read more

Reserved 2 trail-a-bikes, 2 hybrid bikes and a 24 inch bike for Sat 10am. Online booking was very convenient. When we arrived at 11, our bikes weren't ready. No explanation given. We waited for 30 more minutes to get our bikes. The biggest issue we had was the condition of the hybrid bikes. It felt and looked worn out and rickety. If it was just aesthetic and ride fine, it would've been ok. I rent bikes regularly on outings and these bikes are bad. I had a hard time steering and keeping it straight. The gear changes weren't smooth and the whole drive felt like riding rusty cruiser bikes. The citi bikes that were available to rent all over the boardwalk were in much, much better shape. The employees were nice but unfortunately the bike conditions need to be improved. If you need to, charge little more but pls rent out well-maintained bikes, it does affect the experience. read more

Awesome service. When we arrived at noon on a Tuesday in December, they only had 2 beach cruisers available for rent. I had written on Sunday asking them what I needed to do to have two Hybrid bikes available, and they had said, "Come in". When I came in, the right bikes were not available as they had an unexpectedly busy morning. But, they right away said, "it's ok, we will put on two more bikes into our rental fleet so you two can have your hybrid bikes." We got amazing Specialized hybrid bikes, and went over 50 miles in the two days that followed. I was so happy they were able to work with us to make our biking dreams in Miami come true. Rentals come with a U lock and a helmet, which are necessities in my book, and made it so that I didn't have to bring many accessories with me on the plane on my visit to Miami. I did bring my biking gloves and a few bike lights, however (Riding with day-time lights decreases accidents by 30%). I might suggest if you want a certain kind of bike that you call the store directly and reserve the kind of bike, and see about paying ahead of time for it. As the store has great quality bikes, people know that and go there to rent the bikes. I would definitely rent bikes from this store again and can't wait to do so. read more

They give me the customer some lame excuse about the bike being an old model (but the bike on the web is the same damn bike in the store) and that their web guy needs to changed it. The gentleman at the counter was very friendly and welcoming. The rental process was also fast and painless. We signed some papers and opt for the daily rental rate of $24/day. They took an imprint of our credit card and soon after, we were on our way! Their selection of cruisers were okay; definitely not the newest, but they worked smoothly. They also provided us with locks, but be sure to not lose your key! One of my friends lost her key and it was $30 for a replacement. I was going crazy going around town asking for what I think is not a so crazy request. I been looking for a lefty fork conversion kit to fit my BMC. I called so many Cannondale dealers telling me that's not possible, dealers told me it stopped in 2009 etc etc long story short. Miami Beach Bicycle Center was sooooo helpful going far and beyond to get me a special adapter and they made a recondition on a hub to somewhat match my rear HOPE hub. I was getting a cheap canndonale lefty hub or overselling me DT 240s. My hub wasn't cheap but all the options I was given that's attention to detail. I did research and project 321 is a USA company. They treated my pride and joy like their own. Orlando the mechanic is the best disc brake guru out there. He fix my rotor without the need to replace. read more

Stay away from this place!!! I had the most psycho sales guy ever. Basically I ordered Specialized spin shoes from the specialized site like 6 months ago and they didn't fit. So I wanted to go here to just buy some. This older big guy with glasses and salt and pepper hair came over to help us. So I explain the situation and tell him how I order shoes from specialized from the site and he immediately starts arguing with me that you can't order specialized shoes directly from specialized and I tried to tell him yesss you can, that's where I ordered them from , they were just too small. anyways he wouldn't let it go so I dropped it, weird, but ok. So this store only carries black specialized shoes for indoor spinning, and I told him I wanted white ones, and he LITERALLY SAID specialized does not. make. white. shoes. It was so sketchy and weird that this guy was literally lying to me about multiple things just to make a sale. Like blatantly lying. So at that point Im thinking this guy is insane so I pull up the specialized site to make sure I'm not crazy and YEP not only CAN you order on the website, they DEFINITELY have white shoes... which no sh*t they do, I've seen like 50 people with white specialized shoes, my best friend has a pair. So then I'm holding a pair of shoes looking at them and contemplating buying a black pair from this psycho just because I want them that day and he literally reaches over grabs he shoe from my hand, and puts them back on the shelf???? Like clearly I was looking at them, holding them, observing them. So I pick them back up, and he does it AGAIN!!? Like dude, I'm here trying to buy shoes and you are literally lying to my face insulting my intelligence basically saying I don't know where I previously bought something and now I'm still trying to buy something from you and you are literally grabbing it from my hands and setting it down. Great shop! A group of friends and I came to Miami for a bike trip (Streets Calling Bike Club DC chapter) . The staff was extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. They were able to get us 5 carbon fiber road bikes all different sizes within a few hours notice. They also had helmets, pumps and any other accessories we needed ready to rent. If you like to be condescended and have your money taken as a favor, look no further. I am not from Miami, and went to MBBC based on web search and recommendations from reputable cycle touring guides, to get a broken spoke repaired, and also a minor general tune up while I was at it (for 50$) The spoke was fine for now, but the tune up....they must have kept the 50 bucks and forgotten about it. The (cantilever) breaks were out of center, and the pads had no toe. My rear wheel internal hub system was not assembled properly to the frame (causing potential damage to the carbon belt drive). And the rest of the bike felt just like I had left it. I had to re-do the job myself at home. I also asked for the tire pressure to be set st 65psi, but when I picked up the bike they were unable to tell me what the pressure was set at...nor willing to look into it and make sure it's what I had asked. They might as well have shown me the door. I am not cycling the 18 miles back to this place, and if I did I would look elsewhere. read more

Came across MIAMI BEACH BICYCLE CTR and even the first time I approached the door, with a store closed but they left the main door open by mistake, they asked me "how can we help you", first win, they explained everything in details and I came back a couple of days later to realized this is a family owned business with like 3 generations of knowledge and excellent customer service. I went in there ready to spend over thousand dollars but when I described my needs, I was referred to a bike for about $500. The gentleman suggested that this was more than adequate based on my requirements. I have since had the bike for two months and could not be happier with my decision. I did spend $200 on accessories but that would've been spent on the $1000 dollar bike also. It's a beautiful Cannondale that rides really well. People often think it's a very expensive bike and I proudly tell them I only paid $500 and refer them to this awesome and honest establishment. For what it's worth... They were less expensive and the bike was well suited for me. the assistant adjusted the seat, I signed my waiver and away I went for the next five hours. Brought the bike back and left it there and away I walked. Going by bike in SOBE is the best transportation and most people don't know it. I'm friendly with the a few local shops in NYC, Piermont, etc, and trust them for their advice. They won't sell you stuff you do not need, and so you feel safe dropping a few grand on a bike they tell you is right for you. So I am pretty bummed that my local bike shop, this one, is dripping in used car salesman tactics, just heeps of absolute bullshit by the guy who claims to be the owner. Hell tell you the metal water bottle cage for your commuter will "rattle more" than the plastic one that's $15 more. This is bullshit -- it's bolted on tight and won't rattle. Then when you ask -- AFTER SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY getting an expensive bike tuned up and they didn't do it right, and spending money on accessories, snacks, etc, when you ask, "How do I get the disc brakes on my cheap commuter bike to stop rubbin?", instead of being honest and saying "Just loosen the back two bolts and spin the wheel. It takes five seconds", he makes up a whole bullshit story and says it'll be $15/caliper to fix it. Right after I left I called and said to cancel, I watched a YouTube clip, it's a five second thing and I'm pretty upset you'd lie to me." He replied, "We already did one. You owe $15 plus tax." I told him it'll be the last $15 I spend in his store, walked in, handed him a twenty and said, "In NYC, at SIDS, at Peirmont, they'd never do that bullshit. They'd want to be trusted source of advice for serious cyclists." "I'm not a school!", the meathead barked at me. "You're not a real bike shop either." "Get out of my store!" I pulled out my phone to record his barking and then his buddy meathead blocked the door and refused to let me leave. I cannot reiterate enough that I'd already spent a good deal of money and said I'd likely be back to buy shoes and stuff after a quick ride. These guys lied to my face after I was already a good customer, polite and friendly. They're scumbags. Bottom line, if you're a tourist and want to not be lied-to, go here.
