This place could really use some type of upgrades or something. Everything about it has become run down. Overall the staff was ok. The young lady and gentleman that helped in the new student center was really nice and assisted me as best they could and I greatly appreciated that. The young lady that assisted me at the information window was helpful as well. To be at the information window, she didn't know much about what I needed but was able to direct me to the new student center where I received the assistance that I needed. Now the security was a whole different story. If you don't have a decal, you are supposed to check in with security for a visitor's pass. As I was pulling up, she waved me away. However, I still got out and pulled up to the booth to get more information because I am not trying to get a ticket on my car. As I approached her, she told me "I was telling you to go ahead because I'm leaving. Park anywhere that doesn't have a gate." Which contradicts everything that is posted throughout the parking lots. However, I went ahead and parked. As I was walking up to the library where the office I needed was relocated to, she (the same security guard) was having argument with another person who was asking a question along the same lines as mine. I think her primary focus was getting out of the booth as it was lighting and get ready to rain, so I get it. However, there are different ways to handle things. Although as I was leaving (no luckily I didn't receive a ticket), I saw that another individual was in the booth; so maybe it was just her time to leave. I am not sure. Other than that, I hope that I never have to come back here for anything. This school has become dirty and it reminds me so much of the VA hospital downtown. Parking is always blocked off it takes almost 39 minutes to find parking I was scheduled to take the ged math test and arrived late because of the difficulty finding parking here and they cancelled my test after making me wait over 15 minutes just to tell me my test was cancelled ! If Dante were alive today, he wouldn't have needed imagination for his Inferno. He could've just audited a semester at Miami Dade College North Campus. Let's start with the obvious: the place is a monument to brutalism, a Cold War block of concrete so joyless it makes Soviet prisons look cozy. Every angle screams, "Give up now." The buildings look like they were designed by architects who hated students -- giant slabs of gray, windows slit like rifle ports, hallways echoing with despair. Even the pigeons look depressed. I was here in the late 1990s as part of the Honors Program, back when Carter Burrus ran the show. Now Burrus was called a "living legend." Translation: a man with a God complex who thrived on condescension. To many, he gave a chance. To me, he smirked, "You'll never make it." Well, Carter, here I am decades later, one of your more successful students, and you're a footnote in the history of a campus that looks like the set of a Cold War dystopia. Congratulations, you were wrong -- spectacularly, gloriously wrong. If arrogance were an Olympic sport, you'd have a gold medal and still find a way to belittle the silver medalist. The registration process? Then and now, it's a bureaucratic death march. Endless lines, blank stares, paperwork shuffled like it's 1952, and nobody ever knows what's going on. It's designed to beat the will to learn right out of you. The parking? Forget it. Pure hell. Spaces vanish faster than financial aid, and circling those lots is like auditioning for a demolition derby. I still remember when a kid was found dead in one of those lots. That's the kind of history this place carries -- not triumph, but tragedy. And let's talk about the area: for the past 30 years it's been sketchy at best. Step outside campus boundaries and you're reminded immediately that MDC North wasn't built to inspire--it was built to contain. Back then, even staff referred to it as "the Black campus," which says everything about Miami's ugly history of segregation and how this place became shorthand for inequity. The only bright spot? I met my first love here. That's it. The one redeeming memory in a sea of concrete, bureaucracy, and Carter Burrus's sneer. This place doesn't deserve two stars, or even one. It deserves a demolition order. But Yelp won't let me rate zero, so here's your single star. Not for the campus, not for Burrus, not for the architecture. That one star is for my first love -- because at least something beautiful grew out of this brutal slab of hopelessness. Appaling. My husband and I signed up for Spanish lessons on saturdays. On the first lesson, Mrs Grajeda complained about being there, went on about how learning another language does not come in a day (to a room full of multilingual people...), spoke to us as if we were 7 year olds and got offended when my husband asked when we could start the class... Then told us we could leave as she did not need us in her class. We did. I then contacted Patricia Beck, program coordinator to get reimbursed as we paid for a semester for two people and got just about one hour of Mrs Grajeda complaining about the college, the location etc. After several back and forth, she told us we could not get reimbursed. So clearly, once you sign up, without a chance to meet the teacher or talk about the content of the course (it was titled "Conversation Spanish" yet the teacher said there would be no conversation), you pay for the whole thing. Complete lack of ethics. Do not go there. read more

Honestly all went well here. Went for criminal justice and most of my teachers were in law enforcement or actively in law enforcement. Classes were clean and in order. No complaints :) library is huge! read more

Unfortunately I made the decision to become a Miami-Dade college (NORTH CAMPUS) student 1.5 years ago, but encountered countless bad experiences with the FINANCIAL AID department. How insensitive they are to their students. They are also unknowledgeable, I've never received an accurate information, always get the run around. Worst of all is the rudeness from FINANCIAL AID representatives ( a couple of them are great) unfortunately 98 % are terrible employees. I have decided to transfer to BROWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE for the upcoming term. However I've been in other campuses such as Wolfson, and it is a world apart from the North Campus. MDC NORTH takes students for granted. I have been unable to purchase a required textbook for a course, thanks to their unexciting sence of urgency. They processed my student's loan months ago, they deducted my class' fees, yet they are taking the longest time to disburse my refund. This is absurd. They deserve zero star. read more

Changed dates, so there was less class time than when you signed up. You get a call the day before by someone who just says "your class isn't starting tomorrow". Then to make up for the fewer classes do you get a refund? Nope. Also, changed the class time. Doesn't work for some so now they have to leave class early. And the kicker??? Changed the classroom and only some of the students got the update and nobody on the campus can help. What a pathetic excuse for a "school". read more

Welcome to the Wal-mart of education. The two stars I gave are for the 1 of 10 professors who actually care and have been trained to educate. There is poor automation - you must turn registration and financial aid documents in person (multiple times because they always seems to get lost) instead of being able to email them. There are countless subpar professors, especially in the business department, who have obviously never worked at an actual company a day in their lives. Everything requires jumping through hoops. So good luck if you're an adult student trying to get an education and juggle a family and working life. read more

Today I decided to try their gym for the first time the pool was amazing great temperature and machines in the gym were well maintained but the part that surprised me was the shower. They were not very clean at all the walls were dirty and most of the showers were broken. There was soap scum all over the walls. When I asked how come the showers were dirty they replied that is the janitors job not ours. What's out when you use the showers here you may need a techno shot. read more

North MDC - where have you been? For those of you in northern Miami, stop laughing and/or shushing me. For those of you in the South, North MDCers have been keeping this place a secret. I had a conference here in the Science Complex building and wow - was it beautiful! They have a greenhouse right in front with beautiful landscaping surrounding it, a rock garden, nice benches. I was very impressed. The classrooms, the bathrooms, the parking, everything snazzy and nice. Way, way, nicer than the Kendall location. I'd recommend taking classes up here - if it weren't for the long drive from the South! read more

Workers dealing with dual enrollment students are extremely rude. But what can you expect from Miami. Seems like they hire just any and everybody at this college. They should also have more then one person doing the same thing. That way I won't be stuck having to deal with the same rude person! read more

Warning! Don't buy your books at the MDC bookstore!! After waiting in line for 20 minutes, a full staff and a line of 2 people, I was finally taken care of. The employee took my phone because it had the order number on it, and disappeared for 30 minutes. I asked several employees what was going on, why wasn't he back with my phone or my order? And they all just shrugged. So after waiting and getting no answer, the employee finally came back with only my phone in his hands. Apparently, I received the email confirming my order was available for pick up, as an error and my book wasn't there. That's it! Waited all this time to get that answer... Save your time and money. Order your books elsewhere if you can. avoid the bookstore at all costs! read more

The campus is depressing when compared to the Kendall campus. Because of the area it's in, some low-lives tend to be attracted to the place. I've found baggies, condoms, and once my ex saw a couple having sex by the lake on a chair! I've had a few classes here and while it does have its nice aspects, the campus is not something I'm a fan of and I certainly don't miss it. Pros: It's a huge campus. It has ample parking (given the number of students that attend) A bus stop is literally right in front of the main financial aid and registration buildings. Food options right across the campus. A surprisingly high number of pretty girls that attend due to its proximity to Hialeah Gardens and East Hialeah. Cons: A lot of immigrants. It can get out of hand at times. Pretty dirty campus outdone only by the Wolfson Campus in downtown. The police program is here and some of those guys think they're cops already. In addition, there are plenty of recruiters. I'm prior service, so they usually see my Assault Pack and leave me alone, but they can hassle other guys about joining. Because it's a Community College, there are a surprisingly large number of people who attend just because they can't get a good job and they think that MDC is a cash cow, so they will flood Financial Aid, which in turn makes you wait ungodly long. read more

This school is the absolute worst! How the entire system manages to have a number 1 rating in the entire United States is way beyond my ability to reason! I've attended several schools in various parts of the U.S., but I have never had such problems as I have experienced at this educational institution(?). I don't even know where to begin. I attended this campus (and from what I read in the reviews, the other campuses are no better) for almost two years. I had a 4.0 GPA, but because of one bad counselor directing me to the wrong class (one in the curriculum that was too advanced for my level at the time) and one bad professor (the class that I took almost too late because I had to change the first class) my GPA was totally destroyed! The professor of the second class assured me that it wasn't too late and I would be fine! I probably would have if it weren't for the unprofessional, disorganized style of the second professor! Her lack of ability to figure her back side from a hole in the ground left my perfect record shattered! I realize that failing to receive a 4.0 GPA is not the end of the world academically, but it is a crying shame that it was due to the manner that this institution is managed, rather than my own personal shortcomings! This is above and beyond the daily hassle through which you are forced to pass due to the lack of professionalism in which nearly every department is managed, especially the Admissions, Bookstore and Academic Transcript departments. The ruining of my GPA was the last straw for me and, without going into details here, I quit college and have pursued other means, which are working much better for me! What set me off again today, urging me to write this review, is the manner in which my wife was treated as she attempted to receive her transcripts from this college (yes, she passed through the same kind of hell trying to attend this college as I had, so she left, too). She needs them for another institution and it would have been easier to climb Mount Everest in my Crocks than to deal with this educational institution(?), yet again! She spent three hours, with multiple "Goose Chases" in order to be told it will take a week to ten days! All of this due to the fact that everyone working at this college have no clue as to what they are doing, so they pass you off to the next worker! Every one of them needs to place their hands firmly on their knees and push hard...starting with the President! Yeah, you get the picture! My warning to anyone reading this review is to stay as far away from this educational institution(?) as possible!!! It's better you pay a little more for college, rack up some debt and pay it off later than to attend Miami Dade College! If you think you can't do that then you simply need to begin to believe in yourself! You can do it! Besides, by the time MDC demands that you take all of the extra classes they force down your throat in order for you to graduate, you will end up paying almost as much as a better school anyhow! We directed our daughter to attend Keiser University instead! She has graduated recently and has already been offered jobs through her internship there! It only took two years! I've never had a problem with the faculty here, but administration and staff are God awful. Not a single person in any office in this campus will talk to you like a human being. I swear the apathy and the misery is written all over their sh*tty attitudes. No one knows wtf their doing...ever. Applications and documents always get pushed around and mishandled on their end whether it be a change of major, financial aid, etc. They literally f*ck it up every time. And the only way to ever get anything done is to contact a higher up and threaten to take your money elsewhere. read more

WORST SCHOOL EVER!! After being enrolled in my classes for five weeks and submitting all of my paperwork to get in state tuition I was denied! The entire staff is horrible and useless. Nobody was helpful, the ladies in admissions and records were terrible, attitude was just wow... I had to drop all of my courses because of my residence being denied for in state tuition even after I asked numerous times if I'd be ok to stay enrolled in my courses since I had all the proper paperwork that was needed to prove my living arrangements in the state of Florida. This school is just money hungry and the employees are all pathetic. Not helpful at all. Only good thing were the professors. I was pretty bummed but I've heard excellent things about Broward county schools. Miami dade you're very disappointing. read more

I got to North campus and it has the absolute worst service I ever had. Last year after I graduated high school I applied to MDC north and by August i never got financial aid or residency from them. So instead I went to Johnson and Wales university because they responded much faster. Fast forward to Monday i went to see an advisor I waited 1 hour and a half and just asked to cancel my number and left. They have no structure in calling students to see someone and they have people that are available but they just sit there and they call the same number 3 times when no one gets up. At least i only have months until I leave that depressing school. Get out of that school while you can it's worse than Comcast service. read more

This is the second time I've tried to apply to go here. My current job is a dead end job. I need something more. I wanted to get a degree in a different field and move on with my life. This is the second time I get the run around from the admissions office. I applied online. I got back a message stating that my name and date of birth were already in their files. Ok I understand. It's been almost a week now with no calls or e-mails. I've called the campus. They told me they don't have my information. I'm here illegally and need to apply for residency. I need to apply for a student visa. All while I'm here legally and even served in the US Marine Corps. Just yesterday when I called, they gave me an e-mail address to contact someone. I just typed up an e-mail in or for me to get a message back stating that that e-mail address doesn't exist. I don't understand the issue here and why I have to speak to at least 5 different people every time I call. Funny how some people get to go to school here totally free while they're illegal in this country, but a veteran who is willing to pay fully out of pocket cannot sign up for this school.
