One of our HVAC units went out this winter and because it served a part of the house that is not used much we took our time shopping around for the right company to do the job. We contacted our current service company and 2 other local ones for estimates to replace the unit. We were also inquiring about the inefficiency of the main HVAC that was installed 18 months ago. On a whim we attended a local Home Show and met Glenn Breton with Michael and Sons. He offered to come out and look at our systems and give us several options. I wanted to move our 18 month old unit from zone 1 to 2 and put in a higher efficiency unit in zone 1. Three other companies told us this was not possible. Glenn made all the calculations and showed us that it was possible. When the work began our technician, Terry, was meticulous in re-ducting, moving and programing the moved unit and our new 20 seer unit. He told us that the 18 month old unit had not been properly installed so was not operating correctly. That explained why that unit, though higher in efficiency, was using more energy than the 15 year one it replaced. Even after 3 inspections the company that installed it never rectified the problem! We are thrilled at how both systems are now working and could not be happier with the work done by Michael and Sons. I used this company to modify an electrical outlet in my kitchen. Online scheduling was quick and easy. I scheduled for an 8:00 am to 10:30 am appointment. The technician arrived promptly at 8:16 am. It was great not having to sit around and wait for a technician to arrive at the end of the time window. The technician was knowledgeable and professional. A quote was provided before work was started, and then the work was completed efficiently and correctly. The cost was reasonable and comparable to other companies in the area. Of note, the other companies I contacted would not provide general pricing info over the phone but instead required two visits -- one to come out and provide a quote, and another to do the work. This company lists typical pricing for each service on their website, and does the estimate and the work at the same appointment. Much more convenient. Eli was my plumber he showed up on time explained every detail about my problem and then gave me an estimate . no pressure to do any extra work and we knew how much it would cost ahead of time . he was very patient with me cause I dident have a actual credit card so I could not pay cause his card reader was malfunctioning and in the end he did not get paid by the time he left . and the company was so nice and patient and gave me some extra time to get my physical card so I could pay. they where super understanding. I would definitely recommend this company over all other companys cause (Eli was the best we will ask for him from here on out for our plumbing issues) they are knowledgeable on time they don't try to rip you off and they get the job done every time. Needed some electrical work done at my Mom's house which is over 50 years old. Our real estate agent recommended Michael and Son, and we are extremely pleased with everyone, but especially with Bill (William), the electrician who completed the work. He was quickly able to troubleshoot and make the necessary repairs in an efficient way. He also returned several days later to install some light fixtures that needed to be replaced. We had a great experience with him and the quality of his work. Additionally, I'd like to compliment the Customer Service Reps who helped me with scheduling the work quickly as well as those who took the time to change the Invoice to reflect the correct information so the work could be billed to my Mom's Estate. This drastic reduction in price suggests that your original quote may have been inflated, likely based on my location in a desirable neighborhood. My service contract with Michael and Son is one of the most valuable investments I've made as a homeowner. This afternoon, my AC failed in the midst of the current East coast heatwave. I called M&S to request service and spoke with a customer service rep located in Richmond about scheduling an appointment. He set up my appointment and made sure I received confirmations by text and email. It was a pleasure to talk with him. Within a couple of hours, HVAC expert Brian Dickensheets arrived at my door. He diagnosed the problem immediately and quickly went about making the repair. Brian was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Added bonus: my dachshund puppy loved him. None had availability in the timeframe that I needed and one even laughed in my face (well, the phone, but needless to say I will not use that company, EVER). Came as part of a service contract to check heat and air unit. Showed me that I needed to have inside unit cleaned before it got bad so that the unit would be more efficient. Also advised putting a surge protector on outside unit. I agree especially since I have had electrical issues and lost outside unit during storm few years ago. He was able to take care of the cleaning right then but timing for me wasn't good for the surge and he did have other customers scheduled so we set up a time for later this evening. I really appreciate him for taking the time to explain all the things to me and be honest about the cost. He was respectful knowledgeable about what he was doing and actually acted honest. It was the first big snow in like 24 years here in Wilmington. I own a house that was built in 1930. I woke up to a house of 53°. And outside was 19° . I went online to schedule Michael and son services all the time thinking it may be days before they can come out given the weather conditions. But they came out within two hours. They found the issue and sent Ethan to come help me. Ethan was amazing! He had to do the work all by himself even though it is typically a two-man job. He was kind. He was professional. I have used this company several times now to service my HVAC system. I am quite impressed as to how they keep me up-to-date on the appointment. They send me a photo of the technician that will be arriving at my home along with the way of tracking their location. The technicians work is always spot on and they always make sure that they go over every single detail with me. They take detailed pictures and address issues in a timely manner. I use this company to perform my yearly maintenance on my systems. I have plans to continue using them because they go above and beyond. I had Brian Dickensheets come out to give me an HVAC tune-up. He showed up on time, did a very efficient walkthrough of everything with me, gave me on the spot recommendations for everything as it is as well as things I could do to make it better. I think it was well worth the money having him come out and ensure everything was running smooth. He did end up having to replace a capacitor that was pretty much on its last leg so while that did hurt the wallet a little, he gave me every bit of reason to trust that he knew what he was doing and was being honest with me. Michael and Sons has provided several services to me. Most recently, an HVAC technician resolved my air conditioning problem. Before I contacted this company, I had to set my AC 15 degrees lower than the temperature I desired. Brian arrived and found that part of my unit was frozen. It's been over 100 degrees outside for several days in a row, so I was surprised to hear this. He came out twice to solve the problem. It's still in the upper 90's and my AC is working perfectly now. We had an electrical problem with an outlet in our kitchen, and called Michael and sons. We were able to get an appointment the very next day! Ian was our electrician, and he was great!! Very professional, prompt, and took the time to explain everything and then some. While he was there he provided us with information about the home care plan (which we purchased). He also gave us a few estimates on other things we asked about. He was very honest, and NEVER pressured us into anything. Michael & Son replaced our heat pumps in January. So far we have only used the heating function, not a/c yet. Yesterday our upstairs thermostat went blank, and we couldn't find any power ( circuit breaker) issue. M&S was able to schedule a service call today, and the technician quickly diagnosed the problem--a faulty float trip on the upstairs air moving system. Since it is under warranty and we have a service contract, the visit and part replacement was FREE. It may sound weird but I love my plumber. I woke up one morning to the most disturbing smell in the house. The sewer line had cracked from tree roots and caused a back up. I called Michael and Sons, and within an hour Jason arrived to fix the problem. He worked fast and kept me in the loop on everything he was doing. The pricing was reasonable and the service was out of this world. No one ever wants to have issues like this but it's good to know that when it happens a company like Michael and Sons is there when you need them the most. Austin came to do a mixed bag of items for me. I took him thru the list and he put together a plan. He did the repairs that didn't require a permit and then asked if they could submit for a permit. When the permit was in they called and scheduled the repairs and they also setup an appointment for the inspector to come. Austin did a great job and is very personable. He cleaned up the area and took the trash along. This is our second time using this company and I have been very impressed with their service. He did not try to sell me anything extra or intimate me into buying something. He was very professional and represented the company well. Tony from Michael & Sons did outstanding work for us on a counter install which required reconfiguring supply lines and drains. He was on time, thorough, and exceedingly NEAT! He finished my job around 7pm on a FRI night. The counter company messed up the templating which exacerbated the plumbing issues but Tony accommodated their errors. Finding great contractors at the NC shore is a daunting task and most aren't worth a @#%$&. Tony is an exception to this and I recommend him highly. read more
