But that's ok. Since I'm the one who shows up late. I still made a purchase. And I was happy with it. I bought a slice of carrot cake. It was good. And had good flavor as well. The staff was in the process of cleaning up the store. But they were still very attentive to my needs. And greeted me with a smile. So I was happy for that as well. All in all. Ordered a dozen cupcakes for my sister in laws birthday - they were gorgeous. I forgot to save the pic I took but they literally looked exactly like the website and they were delicious. Everyone was so impressed by the intricate design and how decadent the flavor was. The bakery itself is beautiful inside - smells fresh and amazing and the staff was so friendly. I of course grabbed a chocolate croissant and a loaf of fresh sourdough that they sliced for me on the way out because I couldn't resist a treat for me. Ordered and paid for a Yule log 4 days before Christmas for pick up on Christmas eve, 2 days before the cut off. I was asked what time I would like to pick up. I put 2:00 p.m. Went to pick up on the 24th at 2:15 and they did not have any logs left. So the log I paid for and said I would pick up at 2:00 should have had my name on it they gave to someone else. I received a refund but I really can't serve a refund as a desert on Christmas Day. I called Thursday to cancel my order and get a refund since we will no longer need the cake, Well they will cancel my order but not give me a refund! We had a great time with our wedding cake sampling experience here. They have a little room in the back where they bring out a few of their cake and filling options, and walk through the pricing with you. It was super helpful, and they answered all our questions. I went to this location by referral and I must say the cake was delicious. I was a little confused when I received the cake due to the last conversation I was told it was going to be a sheet cake verses the round due to the type of design I wanted. As a military spouse I have been moving around since 2005. Every single time I visit home (Independence) this is the first place go to grab some of my favorites. It breaks my heart to see the quality drastically diminish over the years. Even so, I couldn't break my habit and still return every year. As the prices considerably increased over the last few years, I would still justify it for "fresh quality bakery goods" from a family owned local place. Well, if you take the FRESH and QUALITY out, I will no longer be returning. I could tell the bakery changed for the worse, but I wasn't sure how. After being disappointed once again with some of my favorites, I became curious as to why.There isn't an ingredient list when things are nicely set up behind the counter in a case so how could I really know. Thankfully some of the items are in containers and had an ingredient list. After I read these ingredients I will never return. There are so many preservatives, dyes and thickeners etc etc I might as well buy some cheap packaged garbage that sits on the shelves at the grocery store for half the price. Why do you need multiple dyes? The fresh fruit should be what creates the color....if there is actually enough real fruit in it. Artificial flavors?! BLEACHED flour! Citric acid?!!! Citric acid is a preservative. If making this bakery daily why do you need multiple preservatives? You don't need this if it's meant to be fresh and gone by the end of the day. I could go on. Please read the label for yourself. Even butter is hyphenated with margarine so I bet there's very little butter. It is painfully obvious this family no longer cares about quality. This is such a huge problem nowadays. I really wish we could count on our local family owned spots to do better. It's unfortunate that we can't. You lost me as a customer until you decide to start caring about quality again. We need to start holding our local businesses accountable. Just because it's behind a case doesn't mean it's fresh or good quality anymore. Those days seem to be long gone. We had a return package that we asked if they would accept and send out. They adamantly said yes. Should have learned my lesson with my wedding cake 4 years ago when it tasted old and was 90% icing. It was a 3 tier PLAIN cake and they managed to smudge the entire one side while delivering and turned it away from the guest view. $550 for a 100% plain 3 tier smudged cake that tasted horrible, okay cool. Since then, there have been too many of instances where I think man this macaroon is old, or poppy seed loaf is dry and crumbly. Not like it used to be at all but the worst is now they displayed macaroons with one side nice and the other side was gone and grabbed them in a way so I wouldn't see the bad side, notice in the picture there are no crumbs in the box because the macaroon was already like that when placed in the box quickly without being able to see the other side. $50 again for some old cupcakes for a grad party and half eaten looking macaroons. Let me start by saying we have been getting cakes and baked goods here for years and they have been our absolute favorite. I would have rated this five stars two months ago. However, whatever they have done within the last month is terrible!! They have changed all of their cakes, and while there is no a larger selection, the quality and taste has gone out the window. We ordered a Tiramisu torte cake and a piece of the chocolate raspberry torte (because the truffle torte was our favorite and this sounded like the closest thing). The chocolate raspberry was soggy in the middle. The raspberry layer had a ton of seeds, which is not my favorite. The chocolate was completely lackluster and the mousse had no chocolate flavor at all. As for the tiramisu torte, well in a word it was terrible! Again no actual flavor. It looked like the layers were soaked in coffee; however, again no coffee flavor to be found. The cream in the middle actually left a weird film on the roof of my mouth and the chocolate whipped cream on the top could have been made at a grocery store bakery (not a good one). They did attempt to make their own lady fingers but they only went part way up the side of the cake which looks ridiculous. For the increased price of their items this was just sad. Overall I am SUPER DISAPPOINTED in this place and I am just not sure if we will continue to go at this point unless something changes. read more

So disappointed after having gone to this bakery for years! I went on a Monday to place an order for a considerably simple round birthday cake. I didn't see anything on their website design-wise that I cared for so I brought a picture of a very simple design that literally had 3 daisies on top of the cake. This place was really cool. The atmosphere was chic and sophisticated. The winery is cafe style; which means you have to order your wine and food up front and the staff will bring it to your table. At first I thought I couldn't like this but it worked out just fine. The pizza was delicious there. The pasta a la vodka was great! The deserts (cupcakes) were just perfectly paired with wine. And the wine.....a little on the expensive side but I couldn't find one that I didn't like. My group practically purchased every red wine on the menu. I almost forgot about the charcuterie board. It was a discouraging process because we had references from the internet, so I knew it was possible. Then enter Linda at Michael Angelos. She was the absolute best. Linda invited us in for a consultation, let us do a cake tasting, drew a detailed diagram for our custom cake order and stapled our reference photos to the order as well. We left our consultation feeing excited, reassured, and delighted at how tasty the cake was. We were still apprehensive with the experience we had so far and building something from scratch, but we patiently waited the full week until pick up. The cake emerged from the cooler and I swear the whole bakery stopped and stared at how stunning our cake was. It was absolutely beautiful, exactly what we asked for, and even more than we ever could have expected. We will go back to Michael Angelos (even with the 30 minute drive) over and over again for their customer service and excellent product. Side note- this place smells a m a z i n g.
