First time here- we will be back!! Bakery is under new management but still has the same recipes since 1910. I got the cannoli and it was outstanding! Very fresh. There are many choices for bakery from pies to cookies to brownies and they have a suggestion box if you'd like to see something they don't have. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I had heard over a year ago they weren't as good as they used to be. A friend had bought a delicious, flaky strudel from there about four years ago. Recently, I read their original baker taught the new owners how to bake the original recipes and that their bakery is good again, so I decided to purchase a few items. Their Italian bread was $5 for a small loaf; it's not bad. Their hoska bread is good; kolaczki is good; apple strudel was a big disappointment -- apples are cut all the same size, like it wasn't made there and the pastry was doughy, not flaky. Unfortunately, I will not be going back. I spent close to $45, not that impressed with this bakery. read more

I ventured in at about 11:30 am on a Friday seeking a poppyseed roll. I spied about a dozen on the shelf and the gentleman was quick to help. I asked if they had raisins in them. The answer was, "No". I then asked, "I thought I remembered raisins in your poppyseed rolls." He said, "Yes, we make those. But those sell out immediately." OK, Business 101 here. You might want to make more with raisins than without, since that is what the customer seeks. Review of the poppyseed roll I bought - good. Not great, but good. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but if I drove by and had an interest, I would go get it. Also, tried the extra large kolacky - one of each flavor (4 types - cheese, raspberry, apricot and poppy). Meh - at best. Filling severely lacking. Dough very sub par. I guess it is like the other posters here have commented - it changed significantly and not for the better. Yet another Cleveland hometown bakery falling by the wayside. Too bad! read more

My husband ordered a cassata cake from Samosky's for my birthday and we liked it so much we decided to go back and get another one for my husband's birthday! Only the cassata cake that we ordered for his birthday that cost us $58 had no custard inside of it and was made with butter cream instead of whipped cream! Also had hard buttercream inside with some sort of strawberry paste but no fresh strawberries or custard in this second cake!!! We had a birthday party so we ended up serving about six pieces of the 1/4 sheet cake before we realized it had no custard in it! We had the party on a Saturday so we returned the cake on that following Monday and never received a call from the owner! So after not hearing from the bakery for quite some time we decided to go up there to get a refund! The owner was rude and would not take responsibility for the mistake and she blamed the employee that took the order saying it was "miscommunication". There shouldn't be any confusion when somebody calls and orders a Cassata cake! It should automatically come made with whipped cream, Fresh strawberries and custard inside! That should be a standard!!! Maybe she should take responsibility for not training her staff properly on how to take an order!!! The owner proceeds to argue with me and my husband in the bakery in front of customers and staff! The staff looked horrified by the way we were being treated! She claims that she tried to call and the voicemail box was full but that is not true. She proceeded to badmouth another local bakery. She made excuses for her high prices by telling us how much she pays for her ingredients! She proceeds to tell us about her problems that her and her husband haven't taken a paycheck in nine months!!! That is not my problem! Customers don't want to hear this!!! When I asked her if she had a degree in business management because she could sure use a lesson in customer service! She proceeded to tell me it was "none of my business!!!" All I wanted was my money back!!! She refused to give us a full refund for the cake! Saying we only brought back half a cake so you only get half of a refund! What did you expect us to serve at my husband's birthday party? Everyone who tried the first cassata cake we ordered agreed the second cake was not even close to the first one!!! Most people didn't finish their piece of cake, it was that bad! So I guess the owner expected me to return the half eaten pieces also! Maybe then she would have given me a full refund for making me the WRONG cake!!! This new owner said she's from Texas and they don't put custard in their Casada cake! This is Cleveland not Texas! Maybe you need to go back to Texas then!!! Do not buy a cassata cake from Samosky's unless you like it without custard in it!!!!!! All this woman needed to do was give me a full refund and I wouldn't even be writing this review! When I told her I was going to write a review she told me to "go ahead" she said "Opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one!" So here we are! It was Fat Tuesday morning and there were two boxes of Paczkis in the office. These came highly recommended, so if course I'm going to celebrate Fat Tuesday. There was an assortment of mostly fruity flavors, so I went with the apple Paczki. For being fried, the dough was nice and light. There was a generous amount of filling it contained small pieces of apple with a hint of cinnamon. Overall, I think the Paczki was good, but nothing special. Personally, I prefer a good ol' donut in lieu of a Paczki, but beggars can't be choosers. read more

This used to be a great bakery. I wish the previous owners would not have sold it. I went in there about 2 weeks ago.... Bare shelves, bakery display cases not even half full. NO kolachky!!! This is what they were famous for!! Hadn't run out since i was there early morning. Was told they weren't making any until the next day. I bought a cherry strudel - prices are WAY higher than previous owner. Different dough being used. Very dry. Poss using cheaper ingredients for profit. The new owner has signs posted up that the price increases are out of her control basically saying take it or leave it. Such a shame what this place has been turned into. This wonderful ethnic bakery has gone from one of the best, to one of the worst bakeries around. This was the only bakery that I frequented and would shop there all the time. I recommended it to everyone. Now, I will probably never go back. Not only do they have limited offerings in their cases, what they do sell doesn't taste anything like it used to. 1 star for the great product, but the offerings are less and less Polish. the women in the store scream in your face when you ask for something they don't want to make. They cut the hours so they do not have to come in quite so early. And apparently, they have all the business they need. Ordered a tray of Christmas cookies at the cost of $60.00. There were 30 cookies on the tray and 16 of them were chocolate chip which were very very thin. Absolutely no cookies were iced -nothing resembling Christmas cookies. After expressing my displeasure, the baker said "buyer beware" and asked me to leave. We sure do miss the REAL Samosky's Bakery. Will never step foot in that bakery again. They gave me a sample tray which was on display which didn't in the least resemble what I was returning. It's no wonder the family- owned bakeries can't stay in business. If there is one out there, I sure do hope I can find it. read more

Very disappointed with the paczki my sister just purchased earlier this week. It's like the donut was split open but the baker forgot to put the filling in. I ordered an Easter cake from this bakery and was extremely disappointed by the poor quality. I will offer several reasons why you should avoid this bakery and spend your money elsewhere. First, the cake's icing tasted like a metal with a bitter aftertaste. Second, the cake's filling was very dry. Third, Cheryl, the business owner, displayed an aggressive, unapologetic and unfriendly attitude. I contacted Cheryl via telephone and she asked me to bring the cake in person. I thought this was very unusual, but took the step to bring the cake in person as a matter of principle. Upon arrival at the bakery, I explained to Cheryl that the cake's icing had a bitter metal aftertaste and was very dry. I told her that this was not the cake that I was used to purchasing in the past. They were very sweet and had no unpleasant aftertaste. She decided to put her unhygienic index finger into the cake's icing and licked it, while stating, "it tastes good." Instead of apologizing and offering ways to make the situation better, Cheryl says the following, "what do you want me to do, cry?" I informed her that she should channel her energy and investigate the squalid condition of the shop to determine the cake's unusual bitter aftertaste. She decides to antagonize further by stating, "what do you want me to do, leave the bakery alone?" Cheryl's comments were inappropriate and she displayed poor etiquette. Instead of addressing an issue that could potentially be harmful or a liability to her business, she decided to make matters worst. It appears Cheryl is aware of her awful tasting cakes, but chooses to ignore and correct the problem. Please review the one star reviews and you will notice a pattern that is very alarming. I will never buy another cake from this bakery or recommend it to anyone. Samosky's bakery is not what they used to be, it is a dying business. There are plenty of great bakeries in Cleveland and unfortunately this one is not one of them. Stay away from this bakery. read more

Recently had occasion to be in Parma. Stopped at Antonio's - another Parma legend - and asked our server for a good ethnic bakery recommendation. Without hesitation, she said "Samosky's." Man, was she right! When we walked in, we were warmly greeted and the few questions we had were cheerfully answered. Everything in the cases looked amazing. Since we are from Toledo and knew it would be quite some time before we returned, we kind of loaded up. We left with Paszki, Chrusciki, cheese and fruit pastries and some Russian Tea Cakes - all of which were, without a doubt, the best we've ever had. The Paszki were like none I've had before - and I've eaten far more than I care to admit. The Paszki we get in the Toledo area around Fat Tuesday each year are more like jelly filled doughnuts. They're OK but nothing special. The Paszki from Samosky's were a much lighter dough that was more like cake than doughnut; they were split about halfway through, filled with raspberry goodness and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. Traditional, old school Paszki are prune filled - which I'd guess Samosky's probably has plenty of around Fat Tuesday but the raspberry filled were just fine. The Chrusciki literally melted in your mouth. It was easy to tell that everything here is made with care and the finest ingredients. We can't wait for the return trip! read more

They have bowties, and apricot and cheese pastries that are as good as my homemade. Me and my friends drive from Lorain, Amherst and Elyria to get their bake goods. No reviews for a place that has been around for over 100 years? Anyway, I drive by this place almost every day so I wanted to give it a try. fist of all, definitely a place that gets repeat customers. Not always a good way to judge quality because people get used to stuff and/or the business has a monopoly on the hood. But as I was helped, the first thing I noticed was how warm and genuine the lady serving me was. She took her time to explain everything, even though there were a couple regulars behind. That is how you get people to come back. I bought some left over cupcakes from Valentine's day. Taste good and looked great. Also bought two strudels, apple and cheese... very good. They also had donuts, bread and other assorted pastry, but it will need to wait until I come back. Apparently they are well known for something called a paczki. Never heard of it but the description sounded good. They are fairly updated on FB if you want more information. So for three cupcakes and two whole strudels it was $16. That is a good deal if you ask me. Everything here is made in house so the price is more than fair. Parma isn't the place I look for good food, but this place is worth a visit. read more

The baked goods are OK. Other local bakeries top this one. The strudel is not what you'd expect, not made with traditional filo dough which is found in traditional European bakeries. Instead it's more of a heavier dough of some sort. The more disappointing part is one of the women who works there. She always has a sour disposition as if she's doing you a favor and like she doesn't even want to be there. My thought is, if you're not happy with your job, then leave. read more

I can't believe that Samosky's only has a few reviews. It is the BEST! We always got cheese strudels and nut rolls from here every holiday when I lived in Cleveland. Since moving away, my family STILL talks about the delicious cheese strudel and wish we had a similar bakery in our area. When I was in Cleveland for a conference this year, I stopped by to pick up a few to bring back. Just as delicious as I remember and I sampled a few other desserts that were also awesome. I was picking up 3 dozen cookies yesterday and was in a hurry. I was the only customer in the store. The worker started boxing my cookies when another customer came in and made a purchase from the second clerk and then left. I asked the 2nd clerk if she could please cash me out while clerk 1 finished boxing my cookies because I was in a bit of a rush. Clerk 2 said "NO- we only let 1 customer service representative handle 1 client at a time"- smirked- then walked away. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE STORE! When I go back home to Cleveland this is definitely a must do on my list. I pick up bakery to take to my grandmother's and family members when I go to visit them. I have to say they have the best kolaches and nut roll around! What I like about going to this establishment is that they even deliver to my home here in Texas or to my mother who is out of state. The prices are very reasonable, you couldn't even make this at home for the price they charge. I love the fact that there is a wide variety of selection and I also love the fact that this is a popular place with my family members and even my grandfather used to go there frequently when he was alive. This bakery was recommended by a colleague. I have to say I am not a big bakery person, I went to get some cupcakes for my wife. I purchased6 cupcakes. My wife said they were awful. I tried one and would agree they were so dry you could barely swallow them . Goes to show that only three reviews on a place that has been open for over 100 years should be a sign.
