Fast forward to October 2024: fed up with my heavy, itchy, discolored, and achy legs, I finally decided to seek treatment for my diseased veins. Late one night, I began meticulously searching my health insurance provider directory for in-network vascular specialists, cross-referencing reviews to find a doctor who truly stood out. After reading a slew of poor reviews for the first ten specialists, I widened my search radius to 20 miles--and that's when I found Dr. Altuwaijri. I pay top dollar for my insurance and refuse to settle for anything less than exceptional care. The intake paperwork ran four to five pages and was heavily focused on payment enforcement, legal disclaimers, and collection warnings. For patients navigating a medical concern, that tone is not a great foundation. The physician was dismissive and lacked basic bedside manner. Whether intentional or not, the interaction gave the impression that cash-pay patients were not the preferred clientele, despite the fact that we came fully prepared to pay out of pocket. The total treatment cost came to approximately $20,000 across eight to ten sessions. We understood and accepted that. What we did not expect was a requirement to pay the entire amount upfront at the very first visit, before a single procedure had taken place. We also scheduled all appointments well in advance, confirmed twice, and shared the full schedule with my mother's care team. A week before the first visit, we received notice that the location had changed between their two sites, and only learned this after my sister called and waited on the phone. Shortly after, another message arrived announcing additional schedule changes due to "provider changes." In plain terms, the doctor rescheduled at their own convenience with little consideration for patients who had already coordinated transportation, caregivers, and time off. We canceled all appointments and requested the medical records. The staff response was dismissive throughout. After the fact, I reviewed Yelp and Google and found our experience is not unique. Well I was very hopeful with a female and let down. Filled out the ppw, staff not super friendly, I declined the ultrasound first bc I wanted to meet the DR to see if she was a good fit. Why am I going to pay for ultrasound $213 out of pocket (money is the not the issues, it is the process) when I don't even know if I want to proceed further, backwards if you ask me. Well after I declined a tech comes in to say the DR has to go to the hospital and based on pictures and history recommends ultrasound, I declined bc once again I dont know if this is a good fit. I have been to other DR's some will do medical side and not cosmetic, well I want both. When I know a good portion money is going to come out of my pocket to cover the procedures, this is not the experience I would expect.
