We took a daytrip from Boston on the HyLine high speed ferries, and this was a great place to enjoy the ocean without having to take transportation. There is a way to directly access the beach from the pier, cutting your way through a broken wall. But the easier (proper) way is to take the stairs from the overlooking bluff further east. There is a large lifeguard tower, though there was nobody at the beach or in the tower when we got there on a Friday afternoon. It was a rainy day, so even with the high temperaturs (upper 80's), nobody was there until school let out and a group of school kids camped out to enjoy the weather.

Picture a lovely summer night when the park is filled with families sitting on blankets, dancing, balloons, after a visit to the nearby Candy Manor and a live band playing for 90 minutes. I've been coming to Chatham since I was a baby and the BEST thing about this particular park is the free band concerts that are held here. According to the Chatham Band website, they just finished up their 85th year of performing concerts. The bandstand is named after Whitney "Whit" Tileston, who was one of the popular band leaders and the one I remember the most from my childhood. Whit passed away back in 1995, so it's nice to see this memorial to him! There is a small parking lot next to the bandstand, by the Impudent Oyster, but that will likely be filled when in season. If you don't mind a walk, I recommend parking behind Ben Franklin or by Yankee Ingenuity. The park is kind of quiet most of the year, but it's a nice place to take a break when you are strolling through this quaint New England town. There are some benches spread throughout the park. Thankfully, the town has added a building adjacent to the park with public restroom facilities.

Waves are strong and crash near shore. It's hard to use a boogie board due to this. My family enjoyed playing in the waves without a board.

We parked at the trailhead at Route 134 in South Dennis and on a beautiful Saturday morning in…read moreJuly, we had no problem finding parking- even with an open spot next to us which was great for unloading the bikes and stuff. The path itself is in great condition. It is shaded for almost all of the section we did. The pavement is mostly smooth - any bumps from roots underneath are spray painted yellow so you see they are coming. On the section we rode, the sides are not overgrown so there is room to move over for others passing. Other riders and users were all friendly and respectful- ringing bells or announcing their approach. We rode about 7 miles East from our parking spot, taking a nice break for lunch at Seymour Pond. Some of our party went swimming! We were all thankful for the plentiful bike racks, many benches, and a clean porta-potty. This was definitely a highlight of our time on Cape Cod.
