Awful experience with a needlessly nasty staff member. When she fit me for my prescription for progressives I apparently misunderstood a question she asked me, resulting in me getting the wrong lenses and needing to have them re-fitted. When I told her I hadn't understood what she had asked and was frustrated to have to pay for the re-fitting she said "that's not my problem." When I came back to get my glasses I asked for my prescription, since I didn't plan on remaining a patient there. She wrote it out on a script and SIGNED IT AS DR. KISELOW in front of me. Unprofessional, illegal, and this place needs to be shut down. There are a million better options for glasses in Greenpoint with kind, competent staff. Go there. read more

There are three receptions the two older women are professional however! The first young girl is very nasty... I received two pairs pair of glasses without a proper eye exam. The receptionist was no help and asked me what was my prescription which if I'm not mistaken she was supposed to get the prescription from the doctor.... This is my second complaint and the company responded with call the office to straighten the situation out. I called and the same receptionist repeatedly hung up on me... I don't know why I didn't check reviews prior to making an appointment, but I wish I had. This is a terrible office. Sketchy, as others have described. The assistant was rude, curt and disinterested. She cut me off when I tried to explain what was going on with my vision. They attempted to maximize my insurance payment with medically unnecessary services and charges (retinal photos) before I had even been examined. How could they possibly be medically indicated prior to an exam? The doctor spent less than two minutes examining my eyes. No pupil dilation or changing the lenses to determine which was best. He made zero attempt to provide an accurate prescription. This office should be ashamed. They stole my biannual vision exam. read more

They got 1 stars because I didn't need much, a DMV paper filled out after a quick eye exam. In and out in minutes. They filled it out wrong and I had to have it corrected losing my license for 5 weeks. I didn't write a review or call them back to complain. Four months later I've been harassed with texts e-mails and phone calls. I've blocked 3 numbers, I've unsubscribed from e-mail and blacked 2 numbers from texting me. My husband went there because he thought he had something in his eye turns out it was an infection. My husband needed a yearly eye exam so he said he could do it that same day. It took two minutes and he came back the next day to pick up the glasses (first red flag) they gave him readers. The receptionist or the front end worker was nasty and just trying to sell sell sell he told her I dont need readers I need glasses for seeing my Television to see distance. They argued with him and then they gave him a second quick exam and the doctor said he had 20/20 vision my husband laughed and said so how come I cant see. they did a 2nd exam told him to come back the next day for the glasses. he went back and these glasses are super strong and not his prescription. Sketchy business. I came in this past summer with my partner to get a vision check-up and we ordered contacts. We moved and both reached out to get our prescriptions - my partner received hers via email and I was met with 6 unanswered emails. When I finally got through to someone on the phone, the woman gave me 2 different hotmail addresses (she claimed I had the wrong email) but it was the email they sent my partner's prescription AND the email that was listed on their site. I still haven't received my prescription. I did, however, receive a response to my review on google where the owner called out that sending prescriptions via email violated HIPAA Privacy and Security - which they had clearly violated by sending my partner her prescription. I had a 2pm scheduled. I walked in LITERALLY @2:10 and the doctor had already left. I think its pretty standard to give a 10-15min grace period or at least attempt to contact the patient before leaving. Isnt is the standard that we are ALWAYS waiting for them? When was the last time you saw a doctor at your scheduled time? The bimbos sitting at the front desk claimed they didnt have their boss's number (blatant lie) and literally cared zero that I had commuted to greenpoint and rearranged my entire day even to accommodate this appointment that i didnt even require in the first place. I needed to get checked for a dmv license renewal and on the website it states that the appt can be within either 6-12 months. My last appt was approx 8/9 months ago. So I believe 10000% that they were forcing me to come in so that they could bill insurance, even though the appt wasnt even necessary. They called me up the next morning demading that I need to return in order for the doctor to fill out the dmv documents....seriously!? I will NOT be returning and will be advising others to stay away. read more

After needing to reschedule my original appointment, I called asking if the doctor had any available appointments left for the day. I was told yes, he was free and I could basically come anytime. I live a few blocks away so I told them I would be there in 15/20 min. I arrived and waited almost 30 mins. After inquiring wether it would be much longer, the very disinterested employee barely acknowledged me and mumbled that it would be another 30 mins. Like what? You wanted me to wait almost an hour to see a doctor you said was free? I would have just made an appointment for another day. I'm always hesitant to leave reviews but this office has always given me the feeling that I don't belong. As a person of color, I'm always hesitant to insinuate that my skin color had anything to do with my experience but its really hard not to when the 2 times I've visited I've been stared at like I'm an alien. I'm not sure whether or not it is intentional, but Greenpoint Eyecare is overcharging their customers. Or at least they overcharged me. After receiving new benefits at a new job (a very important and glamorous new job, might I add), I randomly selected Greenpoint Eyecare from a list sent to me by my insurance provider. I was going for a new contact lens prescription and to order some more contacts - something I've done since I was in the 5th-grade (yes I was called "four-eyes" and am still getting over it), so didn't much worry about the office. There's not much that can go wrong with something so straightforward. Or so I thought. The doctor examined my eyes for roughly three minutes, and wrote out a new prescription. Efficient. I next sat down in the front of the office to put on sample contacts - which took about one minute altogether. Finally, I ordered a set of the same contact lenses which I've used for years. All in all, the whole process took about seven or eight minutes, which is the shortest exam by far I've ever had, but so be it. Everyone was friendly. So far, so good. Then I saw the bill. $90 dollars for the "contact lens fitting" that literally just took a minute and involved nothing other than me putting on contact lenses in front of a receptionist? $170 dollars for my contact lenses, which are only $90 online? $90 for the three-minute eye exam? This was all higher than I've ever paid for the same services in the decades I've been going to eye doctors. I'm all for ambitious capitalists - but this seemed a bit much. An attempted discussion about the highly overpriced contact lenses resulted in nothing other than the assertion that I was incorrect (the back-and-forth generally revolved around the fact that because I had two eyes I had to pay twice as much). I had to order directly through them in order to receive insurance benefits (which is why I wasn't ordering online), but even with the benefits I was nearly spending what I would have even without insurance. On the positive side, while overcharging me, they were always extremely polite. I didn't push the issue, both because I'm a wussy, and because I have giant chests full of gold at home, so why squabble? I walked out hoping I could resolve the problem with my insurance company, but they essentially could care less, as they paid out their benefit and the rest was on me. Next, being an optimist, I hoped that Greenpoint Eyecare had made a simple mistake, and accidentally charged me for the cost of four boxes of contact lenses when they were only ordering two, and would recognize their mistake and call me to profusely apologize. This too proved overly hopeful. I picked up my contact lenses to find there were indeed only two boxes - boxes for which I paid twice what I usually pay. So, in short, I got a raw deal. All i have now are overpriced contact lenses, a high credit card bill, and this Yelp review, which I hope will make new customers think twice until Greenpoint Eyecare corrects their chicanery. Whether this was all due to a conscious desire to cheat me, or a simple mistake, is irrelevant. I will gladly pay the excess charges on my bill (don't forget my chests full of gold) if it saves even one of you from making the same error. I'm selfless like that. read more

I provided my health insurance information when I was making an appointment, and they verified they accept it, but when I came on the day of the visit, they said they don't accept it and turned me down. I came with a medical problem, which meant waiting a few days between I made the original appointment and the visit, which as it turned out at the end, was a wasted time altogether. I offered that I could pay a reduced percentage of the charges as the mistake happened due to no fault of mine, but they denied. I don't recommend this place. read more

I desperately needed to see any eye doctor after my insurance changed and I could no longer go to my usual. Little did I know I would just end up paying out of pocket to see my old doctor after my awful experience here. In the midst of covid pre vaccination there was no social distancing and multiple people walking around without properly wearing a mask. The doctor himself was rushed, and went on to give me an incorrect prescription. After migraines from the script I canceled my order through them, and saw my old doctor. Greenpoint eye clearly does not keep track of the books well as they continue to harass me for payments I have already made. I would never recommend this place to family or friends. read more

My gf showed up at this place with a mild allergy to her eye. She was referred by the polish pharmacist at Duane Reade. It was immediately obvious this was some sort of polish connection to hustle people out of their money here. Despite showing up with a medical issue, she was told to wait as other customers considered buying frames. This is unprofessional. When she finally wast tended to, she offered her insurance card. She was told they would not accept it, but if she wanted to take the bill to her insurance AFTER paying out of pocket, she could. It either works or it doesn't. It shouldn't be the customer's job to track down an insurance company AFTER paying out of pocket. She was charged $110, out of pocket, for a "medical exam". Her insurance was not contacted at all. The woman who runs this store will not treat you fairly unless you are polish. When I walked in the store, she was yelling on the phone with a customer who was unhappy with their frames, that she would not offer a refund. She's a terrible human being with little to no remorse for her unethical con artist level behavior, who took advantage of a person with a frightening medical situation. I will say this. The optometrist was extremely professional. I have 0 issue with her performance. She was considerate and warm to the patient, and diagnosed the situation properly (just an allergic reaction). I feel bad that she has to work for such an inconsiderate and conniving boss. My issues are 1) being forced to wait for a medical issue while retail customers are prioritized, 2) being denied the opportunity to use provided insurance, which seems like borderline fraud, and 3) this weird connection where the Polish pharmacist is funneling customers who don't need an eye exam to the polish optomotrist for out of insurance price gouging. I used to come to this place where they would charge me $5 for a glasses cloth to clean my glasses, so I know they are unethical with pricing, but this kind of treatment to someone with a medical issue is unprecedented. Once a week I go to a pizzeria on Greenpoint Avenue and walked in to this eye care place to find out if they took my insurance. Well, they did and I made an appointment on the same day. The staff was very professional and the equipment was modern. I can't rate their frame inventory because I brought my frames from Moscot Chelsea store. Overall, I recommend this place for their professionalism and modern equipment. Didn't give it a 5 Star because I didn't examine the frame inventory. read more

Really do not have any idea why the low ratings? I think Dr Kiselow is a great eye Doctor. I am a very nervous patient and he is the only doctor that puts me at ease. I have been his patient for many years, and would never switch doctors. I purchased 3 glasses here, I have extremely bad eyesight (myopia) and never had to return or complain about the glasses. Believe me, I had to with other places. I praise the ladies at the counter very highly, Extremely professional and sweet. Again Dr Kiselow is down to earth and easy going. He is very confident and his confidence makes me feel relaxed. I was very surprised that someone said they were charged money in a previous review for a eyeglass cloth which I never was. And guess what I am not Polish, and I was treated amazing. All in all I am extremely happy with my experience and would recommend to my family and friends. read more

His babysitter took him, the minute he entered the establishment the dr had an agenda. He clearly did not want to service a black child. He claims that my grandson destroyed his wall. Well I go to get him and I'm standing there looking so hard st the wall that maybe it might break and that would justified the damage. Because there was absolutely NOTHING on or in the wall. He even called the police on this child traumatizing him, he's 7 years old. But I know what you're gonna say about bad reviews that it's not your patient. He was revered by his pediatrician to you. You get horrible reviews and your response is yhst there aren't your patients. Take s good look people if you aren't old and polish your not his patient. And I'm sure you ask your faithful polish patients to write good reviews to off set your bad business practice. I went to Greenpoint Eye Care a few months ago to renew a prescription and found the exam rushed (the optometrist was brusque and spent about 5 minutes checking my eyes). I have really bad vision and astigmatism, so I've never gotten a great fit in contacts. So, I thought it was pretty average that my vision wasn't a hundred percent after I got the current prescription filled, and went on my slightly blurry way. Fast forward about a month and I developed an unrelated problem and went to an ophthalmologist, who rechecked my prescription and informed me that it was WAY off. I immediately called Greeenpoint Eye Care to see if I could get a refund on the unused contacts; they called me back a few minutes later to inform me that since I'd opened the boxes, I was out of luck. Now, to fix the prescription, I'll have to spend hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket on a new contact exam and prescription, since I've used up my yearly insurance on the bum prescription. Overall, I've always felt that their service was brusque and not particularly helpful, but they were 2 blocks from my house so i put up with it. But now that i can neither trust them to get the prescription right, nor make good on their error, I'll never be back. The slight geographic convenience is not worth the massive inconvenience of the shoddy service they provide. read more

Very angry at this store's practices. I had had a good eye exam there and got frames fitted with lenses two years ago, all was good, I was a happy customer. So I returned this year with a new frame, one I bought outside of the store, to get it fitted with lenses. I asked if it was possible for them to fit them with lenses and they said yes. As it turns out, when you give them frames bought elsewhere they make you sign a release saying that if something happens to the frames while in their care, they are not responsible. I signed the release while the lady assured me 'nothing would happen'. Well, do not trust this establishment with cherished frames you have bought elsewhere! They first gave me back my frames with a part missing (which was definitely there when I brought them in as they were brand new), and after I left them there for an extra day while they were supposed to replace the part, I got them back with an ill fitting new part and, I noticed later, scratches on the frame next to the repair. Scratches so deep that they removed the gold coloring on the aluminum. Wow. They proceeded to charge me the regular amount, no discount offered in compensation, since, as I was reminded, I had signed a release. This establishment is fine for eye exams and if you buy your frames in the store. Don't trust them with any other business, they will damage your belongings and will not hold themselves responsible for it. They get one star for the one time I had a good experience. read more

Terrible experience. I went for an eye exam to renew my contact prescription on 12/12/15 and finally got what I needed on 1/5/16. They ordered the wrong prescription for me - incorrect curvature. So I spent two weeks out of town during the holidays trying to figure out why the contacts were so uncomfortable. I finally noticed the error myself when comparing the box to my prior prescription. When I called to make them aware, they offered little apology or explanation and instead told me I would need to return them before a new order could be placed. Eventually they agreed to order them asap. When I returned to the shop to return the incorrect ones, the manager was very kind and apologetic. She gave me a small pack of my true prescription to last me until the box came in. I got home and realized that pack was expired. This place is awful, don't go here. read more

The doctor was rude and rushed me through my exam without bothering to explain anything about my prescription to me. I've had glasses since I was a teenager, so this wasn't my first rodeo. When I sat down with the receptionists for my contact lens fitting, they hastily told me that my prescription says I have an astigmatism now, despite the fact that the doctor made no mention of this during my exam. Confused, I went back to the doctor to ask him to clarify, but he just pushed me onto the receptionists again, ordering them to "explain her prescription to her." When I pushed back and said he never told me I have an astigmatism, he said "I'm an award winning doctor--I know how to examine eyes," then actually closed the door on me to see another patient. On top of that, I saw that the receptionists didn't fill out the appropriate section on my insurance claim form after I got home, so I'm now forced to go back there again to have them do it right. If you don't care about customer service and want to be rushed through an exam and treated with hostility, this place is for you. If you want decent customer service and to feel valued as a patient, pick literally any other place. read more

Received decent service at this location. My first time visit. The same day around 9 PM, I was surprised to receive texts to my personal phone from the doctor here. He basically asked fitting of my contacts lens and went on to offer a newer method of solving dry eye. I'm not sure if he was trying to be nice and offer personal follow up but I didn't appreciate the fact that he looked up my info to reach out at 9PM. It wasn't necessary. I found it a bit creepy as personal info of patients should be kept completely safe and not be used for any sales or establish some sort of friendship..The only time they can reach out to the patients is reach out is their order arrives, appointment follow up. read more

I had -0.5 power and after examination he gave +0.75. we were confused and called insurance comapny, insurance company suggested to visit him again to understand and their staff said doctor gave me reading glasses while I didnt have any problem in reading. On forcing too much his office staff tried -0.75 which worked perfectly fine and they were not ready to give the prescription while were ready to make glasses.
