Where do I even begin? My experience with Alamo Asthma & Allergy has been nothing short of frustrating, disappointing, and unnecessarily burdensome. The issues began from my very first interaction and continued throughout my care. The front desk staff, in particular, consistently came across as rude, dismissive, and condescending. Every interaction felt as though I was an inconvenience rather than a patient seeking medical care. Basic courtesy and professionalism seemed to be in short supply. Beyond the customer service concerns, the office's processes are remarkably disorganized, inefficient, and outdated. There is no patient portal for communication, and orders and results are often handled through handwritten documents and mail. In an era where most medical practices have embraced streamlined digital communication, this office appears stuck decades in the past. My initial treatment experience was mishandled from the start due to incorrectly processed paperwork, resulting in unnecessary trips to the office. For me, that means a 20-mile commute that can take anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. After receiving injections, I experienced a severe adverse reaction. Despite the circumstances, I received no assistance in recovering the money I had paid for medication that was still sitting unused in their refrigerator. Over the course of my treatment, I have undergone extensive testing through this office. Most recently, I was instructed to schedule an appointment simply to pick up a testing kit. I arrived for the appointment only to discover the kit wasn't ready. I had to drive home, return later, and then drive home again--wasting hours of my time. When I finally went to complete the testing, I discovered that critical test tubes were missing from the kit they had provided. Communication has been equally disappointing. I requested a letter explaining my symptoms and medical condition as it relates to eating while traveling. I never received a callback regarding the request. When I finally called to follow up and simply stated my name, I was abruptly told, "She is not writing your letter!" The dismissive and unprofessional nature of that response was shocking. As a fellow healthcare provider, I was appalled by how the request was handled. As a patient, I expected at least a basic level of courtesy and respect. Ironically, while my own concerns often went unanswered, I have spent extended periods sitting in the office listening to staff discuss their personal family frustrations for 20 minutes or more without hesitation. The final straw came when I needed a results booklet that was only slightly larger than a magazine. Despite the significant distance I travel to this office and the fact that mailing it would have been a simple solution, I was told I had to make yet another trip to pick it up. With the amount of time, fuel, and inconvenience this office has already cost me, this felt like one more example of a complete lack of consideration for patients. Healthcare is stressful enough without having to navigate disorganization, poor communication, repeated administrative errors, and discourteous treatment. I am deeply disappointed in the care and service I received and will be taking my healthcare needs elsewhere. I cannot recommend this practice based on my experience. read more

Dr. Mike listened to me as I shared with him all the symptoms I had been experiencing for a bit. He suggested getting some labs done and we found out a few things I'm allergic to and how to live life with these new allergies...dust, dust mites, dog, wheat, oats, peas and various trees, weeds and grasses. There were some other symptoms unrelated to allergies and a lab that was abnormal. He sent me for another lab to see what was causing it. Dr Mike was very prompt to call me with the results and what I should do next. I am grateful for his attention to detail and concern for my health. I highly recommend his clinic to anyone who is concerned with allergies. The front office staff was always kind in the intake process to anything I needed when I called. Who's allergic to bananas (besides me)? Or, Brussel sprouts (yippee)? After suffering lifelong sinus issues and in the past few yers, intestingal issues, I was referred to Dr. Mike for allergy testing. The usual skin and blood tests showed NO allergies. Dr. Mike suggested that I consider doing the L.E. A.P. blood test even though it wasn't covered by insurance. So, I bit the bullet. The report was a shock. I was allergice to almost a dozen foods including bananas which had been a prt of my breakfast routine since in was a baby. Long story short. This was probably the best expenditure I have ever made. I eliminated some foods and moderated others. I've also elimnated 3 sinus meds. Intestinal cramps and loose bowels are mostly a thing of the past. I feel better than I have in years. I guess as you get older food allergies can really become an issue. read more

Very friendly staff. The office was clean. We were able to get an appointment quickly and we weren't unsold allergy shots. Dr Vaughn talked us through some other things that could be impacting my daughters allergy/ sinus/ ear fluid issues. I would definitely recommend! read more

I am an Asthma Patient of DR. Adrianne Vaughn, she is an awesome Doctor, she has great bedside manner, she listens to me and answers all of my questions and concerns. She truly is the reason my Asthma and Allergies are under control. She put me on a Medication called Dupixent and it has been a game changer for me. I am also on Allergy Shots , Maggie the shot nurse is great at giving shots. The office staff are very friendly and very helpful, it is very easy to get an appointment and the wait time is never more than 1 or 2 days max. my overall experience with Alamo Asthma and Allergy has been a very positive one and I would recommend them to anyone looking for an Allergist, or Asthma Specialist. read more

Dr. Michael Vaughn is one of the worst doctors I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. He interrupts his patients when they are trying to explain their concernd, because he is so focused on sticking to the questionaire he wants to follow. A questionaire he should probably have included in patient paperwork. On my second visit, when I tried to speak, he interrupted with, "Let me finish." He seems more concerned about his own agenda than seeing to the patient's needs. I asked to be tested for Exercise Induced asthma, but was only tested for regular asthma, which was negative. When I mentioned the exercise induced asthma, he threw a prescription for an inhaler at me "to try" but when I tried to follow up with his staff later, I couldn't get them to show any interest in helping me with asthma maintenance, despite the fact that I was telling them the inhaler worked. Dr. Vaughn also did allergy testing on me. Now I have previously had allergy testimg three times before. Once by a tech in my primary doctor's office. Multiple allergies showed up, but Dr. Vaughn dismissed them because he assumed the tech was unqualified to allergy test. I have also previously been tested two other times by other allergists, the last time a mild Elm allergy showed up. Dr. Vaughn proceeded to do allergy testing on me, which came out negative, and after some shallow questioning, he declared that I have non-allergic rhinitis. However, I have since then been sick twice, once when elm pollen was out, and now with mountain cedar. My ENT treated me when I had a stopped up ear during the elm pollen episode, and she agreed that I showed obvious signs of allergy. I regularly have suffered seasonal episodes of rhinitis, watery eyes, scratchy throat, ear problems. I can easily tie pollen counts to each episode. I now highly suspect I have what is called Local Allergic Rhinitis, which typically has negative skin and blood test results. I am frankly annoyed that Dr. Vaughn decided to ignore the fact that I had positive allergy test results on my arms in the past, and consistently negative on my back, all because he disapproved of a tech testing me. She had tested me on the arms. He had no proof the tech had done the testing improperly, but insisted she had, simply because she "wasn't a doctor." Dr. Vaughn made no attempt to try to discover why I might be testing positive on some body locations and negative on others, because of this prejudice of his. Again, I can consistently tie pollen counts to my episodes of illness, but because he wanted to control the interview's direction with me and speak over me, this was never properly addressed. Dr. Vaughn also insisted I start nasal rinses, despite the fact that I told him that I have a chronic history of eustachian tube dysfunction. After 4 days of rinsing I was forced to stop, because water was backing up into my eustachian tube and ear. Dr. Vaughn has terrible bedside manner and is a poor listener. He would rather speak over a patient than allow the patient to air their concerns in a manner they feel most comfortable with. I would never recommend him to anyone after my bad experiences with him. I am very frustrated that basically no maintenance has been done on his part to monitor my Exercise Induced Asthma as well. The only reason I am giving him 2 stars was because he was the only doctor to think to check my Vitamin D levels, which were found to be severely deficient. I am currently looking for a doctor who will listen to me and will care enough to give my allergy symptoms the proper attention and testing that they deserve. read more

The doctors at AAAA are outstanding. I have been a patient of Dr. Adrianne Vaughn since 2015, I went to see her for my severe and frequent asthma. She has a great bedside manner and always listens to me without interrupting and she is incredibly thorough. I have never felt rushed in her office and I found out from her staff that the reason she never seems rushed is because she never schedules more than 10 patients per day! I initially thought that I might have allergies but my skin test was negative. The skin testing process was quick (lasted only 15 minutes long) and they used a plastic skin prick device on my back that caused very little pain (no needles). On my blood work she found that I high eosinophils and she started me on a twice-a-month injectable medication called Dupixent that has helped a lot to control my asthma. I used to need prednisone steroids frequently for asthma flares, but not since starting Dupixent. Because I was having frequent sinus infections, Dr. Adrianne also tested my immune system and found that I had low antibody protection against a bacteria called Strep. Pneumonia, which is the most common cause for sinus infections. To fix this problem, I had my first pneumonia shot in 2019 and a re-check in 2023 showed I needed another booster. In addition, I also had anaphylaxis reaction to a bee sting and Dr.Adrianne prescribed an EpiPen for severe reactions but also gave me a medication carrier key chain loaded with Zyrtec and prednisone to take as soon as possible when I am stung. Dr. Vaughn's staff is very friendly and whenever I am sick, they are very responsive to my requests to get a message to her. Maggie their shot nurse is especially friendly and very helpful. Dr. Adrianne has never failed to call me personally within 24 hours whenever I have questions and she does not make me come back to her office to go over my lab testing it is always done over the phone by her personally and is done for free (without a tele-conference charge). I highly recommend this clinic. read more

What terrible front office staff. When I called to schedule an appointment for my son, we were told that he needs a referral. When I spoke to the person on the phone who scheduled the appointment, she told me that she did not need an authorization number, but just a document that states the doctor is referring my son to be seen. Now fast forward to today, our appointment, I show up with the document that the pediatrician had sent with us as the "referral". We make it to the triage area where we are approached by the "office manager" Adrian, who states that they do not have a referral so he cannot be seen today. I have taken off from work, pulled my son from school, just to be told he cannot be seen. I told her that I spoke to someone on the phone and that all they would need was a letter stating he could be seen. She proceeded to tell me that the document needed to state the time frame, for what reasons, and how long he should be seen. I told her that no one told me that. She said I was the one who spoke to you on the phone. I told her then that you did not tell me that the form needed to include that information. She responded with that the pediatricians office should know that when doing referrals. I told her well clearly they do not because that is the information I brought, and if it needed to say that specific information she could have said that on the phone. She said "well then they shouldn't be issuing referrals". I told her she was extremely rude and we left. I feel that the woman I spoke to was extremely rude and coming to find out she was the OFFICE MANAGER, and that's how she treats potential clients/patients? The representation for this doctors office is unprofessional. How that situation was handled was ridiculous. Come to find out when scheduling my son with another allergist, the insurance he has DOES NOT REQUIRE A REFERRAL. ACROSS THE BOARD WITH ANY ALLERGIST. So this was all for naught. read more

I came to Dr. Michael Vaughn suffering from a life-altering cough that had persisted for over 18 months. I had been down several medical roads already, and Dr. Vaughn nailed the issue in one office visit, one cat scan at another facility, and a couple of blood tests. It turned out to be a bad sinus infection that required balloon sinuplasty from a surgeon he recommended (Dr. James Atkins). But Dr. Vaughn's treatment already knocked out the cough before I got the surgery, and he alerted me to an immune deficiency I didn't know I had until I took the blood tests he recommended. To say that my visit to Dr. Vaughn was also life-altering (for the better!) is an understatement. I give heartfelt thanks for his care, and highly recommend him as a doctor, healer, and human being. UPDATE: Dr Michael Vaughn is incredible. If my last post was glowing 5, I wish I could make this a 6. As per my previous review, I saw in Dec 2010. This was my SECOND visit to his office 5 1/2 years later. He remembered me. This time I came in with a complication from a stem cell transplant that even the excellent Doctors at MD Anderson were unable to resolve. I thought perhaps I had developed an allergy. The way I describe Dr Vaughn is a very nice and caring man with the mind of "House MD" but none of the Vicodin or negatives LOL! . The methodology is called Differential diagnosis. He is an active listener. He will take in everything you say and ask questions. He will fuse your med record, your comments and your answers to get the complete picture before making any assumptions of his own. MDA famously starts at square 1 even if you have been diagnosed and treated elsewhere. They view all data objectively in a vacuum that does not take into account previous conclusions. Dr Vaughn does the same. In Layman's terms. Fresh eyes, fresh perspective. That coupled with his analytical capabilities are a force to be reckoned with. I have tried to analyze WHY he is so good. My best guess is that many, like me, come to an allergist because nothing else seemed to be working. In BOTH of my cases, I did not have allergies as the underlying condition. At that point, many Drs will just say, "It's not an allergy." And you are back to square 1. But Dr Vaughn does differential diagnosis. He actively tries to figure out your next step. I cannot express how huge that is. He doesn't just say, "umm you might want to see an ENT specialist, he tells you what his tests infer and why. In both of my cases he coordinated follow on treatment advising me on what documents and test results I needed highlight. If he knows the Dr, he consults personally. This visit specifics: Again, he spotted clues in me that 3 months of follow on appointments by specialists who were working on an established theory missed. He asked a few questions and challenged the paradigm and assumptions of the team at MDA, tested where they hadn't, scanned where they had not, and came up with a CLASSICAL differential diagnosis--- distinguishing between two conditions that share similar symptoms. Dr. Vaughn's hypothesis was that my chronic condition that was affecting my Stem Cell Transplant was not allergies, but also not entirely what MDA specialists had concluded. He felt there was an another component. And he conducted 3 tests to confirm. He was right. And it was important. MDA is great and has given me due diligence and an abundance of care. So this is not a knock on my treatment there. But they reviewed his data and theory, tested and retested me for a week in the hospital. Their conclusion: Dr Vaughn was spot on in his theory and MDA after validating him has added a major branch to my treatment. Without going into detail about the complex medical situation I can say that what he theorized and supported with outside the paradigm thinking, has since been validated by MDA. They have added a new branch to my long care treatment program that will likely add a few more years to my life. Let that sink in. Dr Vaughn, statistically, (if one counts appointments as the metric), has constituted far less than 1% of my medical medical appointments in the last 6 years. Yet my two appointments with him have proved to be watershed events. I will live longer with a better quality of life because of my two visits to him. This I know.. read more

I found Dr. Vaughn a few years ago when I was having food allergies. He performed a LEAP/MRT test because all other traditional tests did not reveal any usable information. They were able to determine what exactly caused my allergies and as long as I avoid those foods/ingredients, I was able to avoid my allergies and the issue was solved. In addition the office personnel are very nice and professional always. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Adrienne Vaughn.....I had terrible cedar allergies (as many of us have) plus many other allergies. After not quite three years (getting a shot every other week) I am allergy free. I waited until cedar season to post my review. My friends are sneezing and wiping noses and I'm great.......what a difference!! Dr. Vaughn is great, as an RN I'm pretty critical about physicians but she is caring and takes time to talk to her patients. I wish she was a GP, we need more like her. Maggie is the lady who gives the shots. She's good and very friendly. I'll miss them! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Adrianne Vaughn for over three years. I never had allergies until I moved to San Antonio and I was miserable. After she tested me we found I was allergic to several things all four seasons. We set up a shot plan and I come in to see Maggie (she is awesome!) twice a month to get my shots. I am so excited that after my last test I am on my third and final year of shots and am almost allergy free. No more suffering and no more taking medications! read more

After seeing another allergy doctor for a year and taking many allergy shots, I had still received no relief from my constant running nose. I decided to give Dr Vaughn a shot at fixing the problem. Instead of skin tests, he relied on lab tests. As a result, he was able to determine that I had a low ImmunoG and even after both pheumonia shots, I had an infection and was not protected against pneumonia. I had a bacterial infection that had gone undetected for some time. When Dr Vaughn got my test results, he called me at home the same evening he received them to get treatment started. I have had severe reactions to mountain cedar over the past several years. Dr Vaughn took the time to explain treatment options and suggested a series of allergy shots. I started the shots in September. This is the first year that I have not had to use my inhalers or had allergies trigger respiratory infections. In addition to Dr Vaughn's professionalism, I also commend the person administering the shots and the office staff. read more

Not all allergy doctors are the same! I am so grateful to have found Dr. Vaughn a few years ago when I moved to San Antonio. I already had a long history of food allergy-related health issues when I saw him and had been to several other allergists in other states. They had all helped me to some degree, but I kept having problems that pointed to food. Dr. Vaughn was able to crack the code on many health issues I was having that were actually due to food intolerances and not just allergies alone. He is one of the few doctors around who does the LEAP MRT test. After I got the results of that test and followed the program, ALL of my remaining health problems resolved. I even had the surprise of having a baby after 15 years of infertility! Of course, I still have those allergies and intolerances, but managing them is so much easier with the help of a great allergist. I feel like I have a normal life now! read more

My Thirteen year old daughter went through two grueling years with a chronic headache. She woke with it lasted throughout day and she went to sleep with it only to wake up again with the same pain. We took her to so many doctors and ran tests literally every other week. We kept getting referred to different doctors and they all said same thing "we don't know what's wrong with her." With tests coming back negative they just started telling us nothing was wrong and I became the crazy mother who was persistent and I just kept calling anyone I could think of to test her. I had to defend her when they would say maybe she was trying to get attention. She could barely get through day. She said it felt like needles in her body every time she walked. Her pain level was always around a 6 or a 10. It was horrible to watch and see her suffer. We tried a neurologist and he kept putting us on pain meds, botx for the pain and nothing worked. I kept telling everyone it's not migraines it hasn't gone away and a migraine patient will have them come and go. She didn't want to take anymore junk anyway since it wasn't helping. I kept thinking we were exposing her to something at home something in environment. As a mother you know your child. The last doctor visit i had with a Hematologist I was in tears and I said please shes suffering and if it was your child would you just stop and say it's nothing? Would you keep fighting? He did a food allergy test and said she has a milk allergy and referred us to Dr. Vaughn. When we went to him he is very kind and spoke to us so that we could understand and didn't make me feel like I was crazy or an idiot. He said her milk levels weren't high enough and we needed to do a LEAP food allergy test. It checks 150 food items including preservatives and additives. At this point nothing to loose we have checked her for everything else. I had lost hope and was really scared we were wasting time. Her test came back and never in a million years would I have thought that she had a ton of food allergies. Main ones being to black pepper, onion, shrimp, and talapia which we ate constantly. Pepper and onion are in everything we eat! So we took her off and it took about 2 weeks and my child is a different person. She is my hero. She maintained 97 average through ordeal and played sports. Doctors said really by the grace of God. An average adult would have been bed ridden including myself. She feels great. Now and then we have missed an ingredient and she feels it right away and gets a headache. Lasts about a week. We are so careful and have had to stop eating out so much and making everything fresh. Thank God for Dr. Vaughn he gave my daughter her life and health back. I never knew allergies would be so horrible. He has called us several times to see how she is doing which no one else ever did. He was encouraging and we are forever grateful. We go back in 6 months to re check her. He listened to me when I knew my gut was telling me we were missing something right under our nose. His staff is wonderful, friendly, and they get you in very quickly. God Bless that office. read more
