We've not been here in about a year; and the crowded dining room would belie the experience we had this evening. Calamari appetizer - rubbery. Could be used for ring toss. Breadsticks- hard. Larger Margherita pizza- came out cold. Eggplant Parmesan - Surely didn't taste homemade. A very sad outcome for an experience we had looked forward to. We'll wait a bit before we come back. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was adequate in light of the surrounding construction at the time. We found the food mediocre. Coming from the Chicago area any Italian restaurant outside of this great city has big shoes to fill. I wouldn't necessarily not go back but neither would I rush to go back. Had a reservation for Valentine's Day dinner. Ordered the prime rib special with salad and tots. Fried ravioli appetizer with marinara for starters, my favorite!! Cheese and crackers and drinks came out quickly. Fresh bread and butter came out with our dinners. Greg ordered spaghetti and meatballs. We didn't even eat 1/2 of our food. We took soo much home! When I entered Michael's on a Friday night the place was packed. We were seated before our reservation time. The restaurant is updated and modernized. Beautiful restaurant. We got our drinks quickly even though the restaurant was full. I got the fettuccine and shrimp with a side of garlic bread. My wife got grilled shrimp. They were perfectly seasoned. For appetizers, I like their cheese and crackers that they offer! Their lasagna is outstanding, but my favorite is their veal Parmesan. I usually get their sandwiches for lunch, which are also stellar. read more

Delicious. What else can I say? Dining in can be a little slow and a complimentary bread basket and dipping oil would go a LONG way to improveme this issue, but the food is consistently good. Elkhart is lucky to have a place like this....homemade goodness is hard to find nowadays. read more

I've heard so many wonderful things and was truly so disappointed!!! Our reservations were for 630 on a Wednesday evening. After 1 hour and. 45 minutes we received our food. The restaurant was pretty much emptied by that time. We could not even stop our server a minute to see why we had to wait so long. No one apologized or offered any compensation. Three out of four meals were pretty good. Mine was suppose to be whole grain pasta and I do not believe it was, but server really didn't check back with us so I could find out. I believe our server was related to the owner and they were more worried about 1 single large party than taking care of first time and returning customers. read more

We came by for a quick lunch between sales appointments. We were seated quickly by a friendly server that was prompt and efficient. The Italian Beef sandwich was enough for 2 - huge portion for a small price. Very tasty as well. Co worker had a huge Meatball sub with Marina - also very tasty. Both sandwiches were served with chips. In and out the door in under 30 minutes - sure beats fast food burgers!! We will be back!! read more

7-30-2024 - I ordered take out. Lasagna with salad. The server used the caller ID and immediately called me back to let me know that they were out of the lasagna. I appreciated that call because I changed my order to meat raviolis with a salad. My meal was very delicious. The packaging perfectly kept the hot stuff hot and the cold stuff cold. Our party of four had all versions of parmigiana (1 chicken, 1 veal, and 1 eggplant) and a specialty vegan/pine nut/avocado sauce dish ordered by brother from California. The margarita pizza is the waitress's favorite and 40% of the patrons were eating pizza. Wine selection was limited, but very good. Service was excellent and helpful. I ordered the pasta combo with a Caesar salad and bread. We shared jalapeño poppers with ranch for dipping. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce is hands down the best I've ever eaten. The salad was fresh and the dressing was delicious. The poppers were great as well. Honestly, I would have given this meal 5 stars if I'd only had a dish of pasta sauce and a plate of their soft, fragrant fresh bread with soft butter. The service was friendly and well-timed. First time here. I had high hopes and maybe they had a bad night. 13 person reservation 6:30pm. Wife's birthday surprise, so we were purposely late by 15 minutes. People got their drinks just before we arrived. Took another 1/2 hour before we ordered. 40 minutes later we got our food. Mostly pasta but a sandwich a pizza and my steak that was medium. Pizza was cool and hard to even cut with a steak knife, meatball sandwich was cool, but the baked ziti was burned on top. Waitress mixed up orders and ignored us. My wife finally said something close to the end and was blown off. Ended up with a $235.00 bill and left 75 for a tip. Should have been less but it was my wife's birthday night and I was trying to keep a positive attitude. I give second chances to restaurants and maybe they just couldn't handle that many people we will try again and I may change my review, but there are plenty places to eat around here. We were visiting relatives who suggested this restaurant was a great Italian Restaurant. My experience however was not the best. We had a reservation at 6:30 pm and were seated immediately. The appetizers mozzarella sticks and garlic cheese bread were very good and were served in a timely manner. The beverages were refilled timely also. That's the end of the great experience. It was quite busy but the restaurant cleared out quite quickly. Our food however took over an hour to receive. Two orders of spaghetti, a combination plate, fried chicken and small pizza did not seem out of the ordinary. Since the restaurant has cleared out it seemed like an unusually long time to wait. It would not have been so bad but the spaghetti was not completely drained, was watery and the sauce virtually was tasteless. My husband had the spaghetti but with meatballs and had the same issue. His meatballs were tasteless too. This is a family owned restaurant and I believe they have more than one location. This was the downtown Elkhart location. If we are in town we may try them again but definitely order something else and definitely not wait that long for our food. If the food would take anywhere near that long, we would leave. read more

So sorry we went! Stood for 5 minutes before anybody acknowledged us. We had 4 people. The place looked busy. We we did get acknowledged we told her there was four and she's got menus walked into the table put the menus down on the table never spoke to us. Sat down and proceeded to wait 20 minutes for waitress to even acknowledge us. When she finally came over to ask what we wanted to drink we told her we were ready to order also she seemed like she was upset by this. We ordered garlic bread as an appetizer plus we have three Waters and one soda. About 15 minutes later she brought two salads and a soup which consisted of lettuce one cherry tomato and two halves of a cucumber. The people at the next table were very upset they got there before we did and we're saying they've been there for 45 minutes and still had not had their food she brought their salads after she brought ours. There was a table behind us and they ordered before we did and they didn't get their salads till way after we got ours. After being there an hour and 20 minutes we finally got our food what a letdown. Two people got fettuccine alfredo it was so bland it was worse than a jar of it could ever be. One person got cheese ravioli and when he told her it was me she questioned him and he did not want to order anymore after sitting there for so long she said oh you guys can just take it home. I ordered an eggplant parmesan, right before a meal came out we got an order of breadsticks not the garlic bread we ordered and when we told her she just kind of shrugged her shoulders and walked off. The eggplant which I was so looking forward to was very thick and heavily breaded and I don't know how you burn it but it was the outsides of all the eggplant were burnt it was dry hardly any sauce. When my husband told her the ravioli was wrong she just looked at him and said well I ordered you she's ravioli, he said well it's not cheese it's meat. She then said oh I'm sorry you can take it home with you. He did not want to order anything else and has we've been there over an hour and a half already. The tables around us were complaining there was a table of people who came in and they sat there longer than we did to get drinks just looking at their menu they were getting up to leave when the waitress approached them. I understand being busy but this was beyond ridiculous. It seems that all the waitresses had a scawl on their face we noticed as we watch them. When I asked for the bill she charged me for the ravioli I said oh I'm not taking that home if you're charging me for it she said oh. I told her well I'm not going to pay for it I won't take it home just take it off the bill she walked away came back and said oh you want me to take that off the bill I said yes it was wrong and it was the kitchen's mistake. I had read some of the reviews before we went. Spoke to somebody after and they told me oh we used to go there all the time but it's not very good anymore. I only give it a 2 because it was a cute old style place. read more

Started with the zucchini strips, Italian wedding soup (awesome) and the stuffed shells (ricotta and spinach) w/meatballs for my entree. The most tender and flavorful meatballs I've ever had. This is an original building and not fancy- the bar is full of locals who appear to be regulars and the dining area had mostly families and folks enjoying a night out- here's what we ordered- eggplant Parmesan was delicious- each slice was battered and fried topped off with sauce and cheese- I think there were eight of these- I could only eat 3 they were so filling- cane with a side of spaghetti- my nephew had the chicken strips and fries he reported as crispy- and my Brice loved the chicken Alfredo- another had the chicken Parmesan and a meatball and another the shrimp and pasta.
