Stopped by Holy Smokes Pizza while we were in South Bend and I'm so glad we did. We ordered a Chicago dog, onion rings, jojos, and a pepperoni/salami sub and everything was delicious. The food tasted homemade in the best way and the onion rings and jojos were also great. The owner was one of the nicest people we've met in a long time. You can tell he genuinely cares about the place and the people who walk through the door. The restaurant has so much character and nostalgia to it. Between the vintage milkshake machine and the old-school neighborhood feel, it's the kind of local spot that's becoming harder to find. It's also only a few minutes from the airport, making it an easy stop if you're passing through South Bend. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town. read more

So glad that we stopped in! In a hunt for dinner while visiting South Bend for a tournament, we came across Holy Smokes and a review that called the food five stars. The food? Five stars. The service? Far and beyond. Jerry was the very best... making recommendations, sharing more on the history of the establishment (including a historic ice cream machine), and cooking a delicious meal. The place is cute and unassuming- it almost felt like sitting in someone's living room which further added to its charm. Jerry shared that they decorate for every holiday too which must be fun! We would certainly return to try the sandwiches and milkshakes the next time we are in South Bend! :) read more

OK, this isn't a 5 star restaurant, but the food is definitely 5 star! I LOVE their meatball sub. Homemade meatballs, not the little frozen ones, in a wonderful roll. He even makes his own sauce. We were in the neighborhood around Mayflower after a stop at St Joseph Funeral Home visitation and needed to get a bite to eat on a Friday evening in July. Been following Holy Smokes pizza restaurant since they opened. It's near Mayflower and Edison . . . Edison is one block south of Lincolnway, near the airport. Most people probably don't know there is a pizza place near airport. Just 3 minutes west of stoplight Mayflower and Edison. So glad we stopped in and had a sausage & pepperoni pizza. It was hot, crispy, and fresh. Server was so helpful and engaging. Think her name was Abby. Had a booth by the window. Owner came out later and greeted us. My husband said he would like to come back and just order a few sides. Onion rings, tater tots type thing, mozzarella sticks. Their hot sandwiches sound great! Love the clever name for a pizza place. 2 types of restaurants. Real Food and Fake Food. First type is wholesome, delicious hand made entree's. The 2nd is frozen, bought pre packaged and have cooks whom are numb to the quality of their dishes from exposure to.....crap. This is the 1st kind. Sweet old man is the head chef, hostess, waiter, cashier, & maintenance man. I bet he operates at a net loss habitually. Give him your deserved business. Stopped in Holy Smokes yesterday late afternoon shortly after they opened at 5pm for a sit down pie and appetizer, and neither disappointed. My wife and I shared a skinny Jo-Jo's taters served with a small cup of French onion dip and a pie with pepperoni, sausage, and onions. The taters were deep fried w/skin on and without a coating or seasoning to let the natural potato taste come through which they did. The pizza had a slightly sweet sauce, but not too much. The crust was thin, chewy, and delicious. Overall a very good pie and competitive with others in this area. Will definitely return to Holy Smokes to try other items off their menu with another tasty pie for sure!!
