We've been going here for years. It's always been exceptional but this evening was very different. Our waitress knew to the job and was great but I'm afraid she's intentionally being set up to fail. She hadn't been taught how to open a bottle of wine. This is something I'd think the manager of this well established place would have covered. When a more senior member of the wait staff brought her back with the unopened bottle she did her best to humiliate her in front of us. We ordered pizza and salad. The pizza came out 10 minutes before the salad with the excuse from the kitchen that the "salad line is backed up", It's lettuce pepperoni, cheese and some dressing. When you don't properly train and guide new help it isn't a bad reflection on them, it a reflection on the owner, manager and staff that are afraid a younger more energetic person will show them up. We'll be hard pressed to go back anytime soon. read more

We visited with my wife's family in Elkhart Indiana and they decided on pizza. Antonio's is their go to. We We had 3 large pizzas with different toppings of which I had the pepperoni. The crust was exactly how I like it, crisp and dark. The sauce had a tang to it and a wonderful flavor. It was also plentiful and not over sauced. The cheese was also perfectly done and slightly browned in places. They cut it into wedges of which I had 4 pieces. Normally I wouldn't have eaten them hat much but I couldn't stop. I wish that I had taken photos but it disappeared so quickly with 8 of us chowing down on it. J would drive miles for this pizza and next time I want to add sausage with the pepperoni. The service was fast and the server was friendly. The pizzas were delicious. I can see why they won awards. However the pasta dish was not at the same level. This place was amazing! We came here with a pretty big group after a Notre Dame football game. We had a great dinner. We started with the burrata and the not knots and we could not get enough. We absolutely loved how fresh everything tasted, especially the tomato sauce. We all got all sorts of different entrees, but the ones I got to try were the Vegas Fortuna pizza and the Calabrese pizza. These were exceptional. They are award-winning for a reason. We arrived at the dinner rush time. The parking lot was almost full. We were seated very shortly after arriving. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Our server brought us our drinks immediately and gave us plenty of time to look through the menu and answered all of our questions concerning the menu. We never felt as though we were being rushed into ordering. My meal was okay. The bolognese sauce was delicious. I understand that most people prefer their pasta al dente and would agree that is the way it should be cooked. Not me. It's too chewy for me and I didn't enjoy it. My husband said his meal was good, but there were some elements of it he did not like. The sauce for his pasta dish was satisfactory. The Italian sausage was excellent and authentic. The problem with the dish was the vegetables. The tomatoes, green peppers, and onions were by his account undercooked. As for his drink, he was served what they called a "cola". It wasn't Coca-Cola, it wasn't Pepsi-Cola, or any type of cola his taste buds could recognize. If there is a next time, he will stick with water. We asked for bread and it never arrived. After three years since my first visit to Antonio's where I had a rough encounter I can say that this one was exponentially better. Service was fast and attentive. My husband and I shared bread and oil, spinach and artichoke dip for our appetizer, and a 10" stuffed pizza with bacon, pepperoni, and Italian sausage. The food was very good. The appetizer was a big which I'll keep in mind for the next time I dine in. It does take about 30 mins for the stuffed pizza to be made. The restaurant itself had a nice feel to it. AUTHENTIC...ITALIAN...CUISINE Who would have thought such a GEM of a place if located in Elkhart, Indiana? This family owned restaurant makes you feel right at home - treating you like you are one of their own. Upon arriving, the parking lot was completely full so you know it must be the spot. We got a table near the bar and immediately waited on and ordered cocktails to start. We ordered the burrata, fried calamari, and mozzarella sticks for our antipasto. All three dishes were delicious and the perfect way to kick-off our meal. Next came the main courses, one person in my party ordered the Soccotini pasta and it literally came out sizzling. The wine order was placed for the meal and we ate the pizza below. Vegas Fortuna Pizza: 72-hour hand-stretched artisan dough, pomodoro sauce, housemade Italian sausage and hot honey sausage, topped with cup-and-char pepperoni and mozzarella blend I cannot say enough about how authentic these made from scratch meals tasted. I literally was transported back to Italy and it makes me want to book another trip. The owner, Paul, came out and spoke to us after our meal to make sure we were satisfied. This felt like a hidden gem. It had a comfortable ambience. It was my first time, and I overdid it on the bread. I ordered the Pope's chicken with the potatoes and green beans. It was AMAZING! Antonio's is popular. Very popular. A steady stream of diners were filing in while we were there. Server was polite though invisible at times. That said we didn't have to ask for refills. We started with the calamari. Probably should've skipped it. Did not seem fresh. Very rubbery. Bland breading. Not hot, just warm. Did not finish that. My wife ordered eggplant parm and said it was good. Served with pasta and sauce. The sauce was thick and stuck ti the pasta like it should. She said it lacked salt though. Very bland in that regard. I ordered the championship Fortuna pizza. It was okay. Wasn't blown away. I really like the spicy honey sausage on it. That topping is a home run. Maybe we will come back. Not ruling it out. We have been to the area with our RV's, for the past 9 years and I'm so disappointed that I haven't had the opportunity to eat here for the past nine years! This is the best pizza I've EVER had! Pinsas rosemary pizza (low gluten) was perfect! Started with the arugula salad and was shocked at the size so pretty happy that we ordered one to share instead of trying to eat it and then pizza. Ended up taking half the pizza home and ruminated about eating it all day long! Service was outstanding and wine recommendation was perfect! So much so that we are headed there tomorrow and hopefully we'll get the same waitress. Now I feel horrible that I forgot her name because she was great. This place is by far the best Italian restaurant in Elkhart. When we pulled in after work the parking lot was full of cars. It was a 20 minute wait but we were informed that there were two seats at the bar out back if we wanted them. We decided to go for it. Great decision. We started off with a couple of cocktails which were served up quick. The bartender was phenomenal. Given that the restaurant was packed wall to wall, she was extremely attentive. Funny, too. I had the chicken tortellini soup. I could have eaten that by itself. It was a giant bowl. Seasoned perfectly. Huge pulled chicken pieces and tortellini. I also had the pasta ala carte. Soccotini with marinara sauce and mushrooms. It was superb. Perfectly seasoned. The soccotini was stuffed with Italian sausage. Large portions. I took it home for lunch the next day. The food, service and ambiance of Antonio's was like eating at home with my family and friends. Everyone knew each other. My buddy had lasagna which he raved about. He also took home leftovers for lunch the next day. We decided then and there that we would back to try the award winning pizza. I can't say enough good things about Antonio's. Read so much about how this place is involved in world pizza contests and makes a great pizza, so I gave it a try. Their normal pizza crust is very doughy with no crunch - i guess i should have ordered thin crust. The sauce is a bit bland, i find myself having to add seasoning on the pizza to make it enjoyable. The cheese is good. Not a great pizza imo, kind of disappointing - Barnaby's, Oliva's, and Polito's are definitely a step above. Maybe the thin crust is better? read more
