After my exam with the doctor, I needed some reading glasses. The manager made me feel that it was an inconvenience for him to help me. I was ready to purchase the glasses on the spot. First red sign, but I chalked it up to him having a bad day. A few weeks later, my wife picked up the glasses that she ordered and the glasses were not fitting correctly. The right side keep sliding down her face and was sitting lower. She went for a few adjustments and it still didn't fit right. After looking at the glasses, I can tell that the right side leg was wiggling a lot more than the left side. Of course, it's made to wriggle some, but not the way it is at the moment. Something was not right. We both wore glasses all of our lives. So this time, I personally took it in cause she didn't want to deal with this manager again. After the lady took it in the back and adjusted it, she brought it back out and was like there you go. Still the same problem, I showed her. Before she can answer, this "manager" guy step in and made a total scene by rising his voice. He said that's how it's supposed to be. If your wife is having issues it's not the leg, it's her face or her ear is lower than the other. In fact, the glasses you have on right now wiggle like this. I pulled off my glasses and it's not wriggling as much as my wife's glasses. We just bought 3 pairs of glasses from here in the past 3 months. The other 2 are not like this. He kept being more aggressive and rising his voice so I just took the glasses with me and walked out. As I was walking to the car I was thinking, could he be right? Let's get a second opinion. I went across the street to Target and went to the Optical store. I explained to the nice lady there that I didn't buy my glasses there, but I need a second opinion. I was told that these glasses are supposed to wiggle this much. I showed her one side was fine and the other moved up and down quite a bit. She agreed. She took a look at it and tighten the screw and it was perfect now. Makes me wonder if the manager at Advanced actually try to adjust it in the back room. I thanked her and told her we will be buying our glasses from here now on. Please DO NOT buy your glasses here. The customer service is awful. There use to be an older lady that was awesome, but I don't think she is there anymore. The new "manager" is awful and not pleasant at all. It's funny, that I am not the only person who has had this experience with him as you can see in the reviews from above. If there is a corporate number, I would call and let them know about the customer experience.

No dilation, no eye pressure test & none of the standard questions ODs use to assess serious issues. He seemed more interested in telling my husband and i all about his Colorado road trips. Then, Dr H retrieved a copy of my prescription from another room, came back and said "everything looks great!" No details. I am 53 and i feel like my vision has declined in the past 3 years. So, i asked Dr. H if he could use my glasses to compare how much my vision had changed. "Of course!" He took my glasses & disappeared, returned momentarily & announced, "it hasn't changed much at all!" Again, he provided no data & no details, which seemed odd. The entire exam took 10 minutes, max. On the way home, i had forgotten to ask for a prescription for Bimatoprost . left a message with the receptionist. (i was surprised that i had to explain what it is!) As so many other reviews have said, the office staff is totally incompetent. The message the receptionist took was that i needed a prescription for Prazapam - a medication prescribed for insomnia & anxiety! When Dr H returned my call, he was also confused about what it was i needed but seemed more interested scolding - yes, SCOLDING - me, accusing me of YELLING at his staff on the phone. What i suspect is that this OD accused me of yelling to deflect from his own incompetence. Scolding a patient is a sure way to get them to go somewhere else as they are about to realize that this OD is nothing but a silly quack.

As I walked into the office, my son called me from school, so I answered because I needed to know what was happening. While I was still on the phone, the doctor approached me and told me to remove my earbud so I could hear him. I explained that I was already on an important call when I entered the office and just needed a moment to finish. Instead of giving me that moment, I felt that his manner was dismissive and rude, including making a shooing gesture toward me. Because of the way I was treated before my appointment even started, I told him I no longer felt comfortable having him as my doctor, and I left. Afterward, I texted the office expressing how upset I was about the interaction and told them that I had posted a review. Their response to me was, "Stop harassing us or I will inform the police." I found that response extremely concerning, especially since I was simply expressing my dissatisfaction about what had just happened. I will not be contacting the office again, but I believe potential patients should know about my experience. Patients deserve to be treated with courtesy, patience, and professionalism. Dry eyes no more!…read more Dr. Ortman is the best. He takes it as personal challenge to get whatever you need done for you. I went in for an exam for glasses and mentioned I had dry eyes. He told me about a device called iLux which unclogs your pores (glands) between eyelashes. I was skeptical but had suffered with dry eyes so many years, I thought I'd try it. Well for the first time in over 15 years I do not have dry eyes! It's been about 5 months since he did it and it is still amazing. I can wear make up without it bothering me, my cornea has scratches and I am thinking that I will prevent further damage by having my eyes properly lubricated. Thank you Dr. Ortman! She came in the room and didn't even make eye contact until about 5 minutes in and barely looked at me more than 2-3 times the entire visit. The she immediately told me to stop talking as she needed to read what was entered in the computer. When she started reading the narrative for why I was there, and I responded to her question, she immediately placed her hand up to stop me and said she didn't need to hear that right now. She then went through my complaint but literally word for word as she was more preoccupied with typing it into the computer than actually listening to me. Wouldn't let me say more than 2-3 words at a time or said I was talking too fast and she had to type it, and to stop. She then proceeded to say what I was feeling was normal, and I should just take 2 Ibuprofen tablets twice a day, use some artificial tears and I'll be fine. When I reiterated that I was unable to move my eye without pain and had blurred vision and swelling and I literally couldn't function and that I was concerned that those things had only worsened my symptoms thus far, she just said it'll go away and proceeded to attempt to end the visit. I was so upset that I started crying and had to ask her to please listen to me as she continued to ignore my concerns. She eventually stepped out and said she had to check something and left. She ended up giving me a prescription to help but the prescription was not written correctly (should have been drops for just a few days but the Rx was for daily and with 6 months of refills). I left the office in tears as I was so incredibly frustrated. The front office and the assistant who checked me in: fabulous.. so nice! But the doctor, the one person that needed to be attentive, kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable; she was anything but this. Literally the worst experience and I will never return or recommend this doctor or practice.
