Dr. Michael Vercillo is a top flight MD and surgeon specializing in extremities. He did an extensive redo of my right shoulder, including fixing and repositioning the bicep tendon, smoothing out the labrum, and using a unique micro-fracturing technique to eliminate a rough projection of bone on the head of the humerus that was responsible for the damage to the bicep in the first place. Except for a few painless clicks and pops on occasion, the shoulder is now fully functional and pain free. If I didn't know how hard he worked to get it right, I'd say it was a miraculous surgery. No miracle, just an excellent mechanic! Since then he has resolved a severe, persistent knee pain without surgery, as well as tackling a tear in my elbow. I no longer live near Thousand Oaks, but I'm willing to drive a long distance, past hundreds of orthopedic surgeons and top flight hospitals, just to seek out his opinion and benefit from his skills. Truly an amazing doctor. Very sweet caring and compassionate. Spends time with you during each visits, listens to you and explains everything thoroughly. He truly cares. Best orthopedist around. Period. Excellent bedside manner, spot-on with every diagnosis. My ONLY complaint would be that it's gotten ridiculously difficult to get an appointment with him which, in a serious but non-emergency situation, is very frustrating. I came to Dr.Vercillo with hip pain and he quickly diagnosed the problem and gave me methods to relieve the pain. He gave me 2 cortisone injections and both were painless and fast. I eventually received hip surgery from him and again everything was smooth. One would think getting hip surgery at age 16 is scary but Dr.Vercillo truly made it a bearable experience and has his patients best interests in mind. Overall I went from barely able to walk to having a great wrestling career and being in the best shape of my life. My husband and I both go to him. I was actually referred to a different doctor in the office, but he didn't take my insurance so I set up an appt with Dr. Vercillo. Now 3 years later, I feel I have put my life and my husbands needs in a friends hands. My husband had a horrible surgery done by another doctor, removing a screw in his ankle out of the ten screws in there. Within one week my husband was in the ER with internal medicine doctors, rare contagious disease doctors, and everyone you can think but no one could figure out what was wrong with him. Come to find out my husband got MRSA in his ankle from the hospital when he had the previous surgery, no one knew why the other doctor only took out the broken screw in his ankle, when everything should have been removed. Dr. Vercillo performed his surgeries and did a magnificant job. He is caring and a wonderful person. But, Dr.Vercillo is an extraordinary man in every way. He makes you feel safe and truly thinks about your best interest at heart. Dont question yourself, make an appt if your thinking about it. Funny, I just posed a review and I called to try to make an appt because my epidural for my lower back has worn off, and i slept for a total of 2.5 hours last night due to my pain. The front desk told me I had a previous balance (which I never knew about-nor got anything in the mail) so I am no longer allowed to be his patient EVER AGAIN. They wouldn't even let me leave him a message or anything. AND if I did pay the bill with the collections, it wouldn't matter because I'm blacklisted now to ever see Dr. Vercillo again. I'm so upset because I have been seeing him for 3 years and finally felt safe in a doctors hands. So word to the wise, don't forget to make sure you pay your bills or you wont get to be his patient. Dr. Vercillo did an amazing job on my knee replacement. He's smart, efficient and inspires trust. Good bedside manner, but more importantly he knows what he's doing. HIs staff from front office, insurance, appointments, back office and x-ray are all fantastic.They are always helpful, and courteous. Dr. "V" is the best. I was referred to Dr. Vercillo from our family sports chiropractor. Wise decision! My son, a sophomore in high school at the time, was diagnosed with femoral acetubular impingement (FAI) requiring major repair to the hip cartilage. Dr. Vercillo maintains a conservative approach toward surgery. He performed my son's surgery using an arthroscopic approach which only left two scars of pencil diameter size. As a result, recovery was quicker than expected and my son was able to fully resume sports within four months. A few years have passed as I finally write this review and my son still has no problem with his hip function. I further would like to add that Dr. Vercillo demonstrates a humble demeanor and outstanding bedside manner. Instead of nurses calling our home, he personally called our son to learn of his post-op condition. I appreciate those qualities in a doctor! I was referred to Dr. Vercillo last year for an incredibly chronic and painful shoulder. He was kind, compassionate and comprehensive from the start. I appreciated that he engaged in noninvasive (albeit painful ) procedures prior to recent surgery. Sometimes I thought the injections hurt him more than me because his is so empathic. The reason I chose now to post another review is that last week I went to my primary Dr. in yucky pain again in that shoulder. I have early onset arthritis. It was again unbearable. With no appointment on a busy Friday, Dr. Vercillo had me come directly to the office. He spent 30 minutes showing post surgical pics to my husband, fulliy explained the new issue, immediatelyi injected my shoulder while talking me through it all. I am relieved of 75% of the pain already. I hope you do not have to endure terrible shoulder pain, either chronic or due to injury, but if you do, the best thing you could do is become a patient of Dr. Michael Vercillo in Thousand Oaks. His staff are kind and professional. I receive excellent, innovative medical care at a very fair price. While he is clearly quite busy, they manage to book well so there is typically not an unreasonable wait. I first met Dr. Vercillo after I suffered a fall at home and hurt my shoulder. On my initial office visit, he explained the possible injuries to my shoulder and sent me out for an MRI. The results of my MRI showed that I had torn tendons that would be reattached using arthroscopic surgery. He explained the method to repair and the arthroscopic surgery procedure as well as answer all of my questions. I never hesitated having the surgery because I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Vercillo repaired my shoulder and he gave me instructions on exercises to regain mobility and strength. I was also sent to a Physical therapist. I can honestly say that my shoulder feels as good as new. His office staff is very friendly too. Dori was especially helpful with all of my insurance questions.
