This place is kind of a gem. A local Whiterock/South Surrey local bakery that has been around for 20yrs. Everything there is fresh... And I mean FRESH. ingredients are from local farms and organic according to the bakers. I bought their cake once and it was honestly one of the best I've had in ages. I normally just buy from the grocery store but this is different. The whipping cream was so different and not artificial. The owner allowed me to take a sample of her other baked good and they were also delicious - the breads are fantastic. And the soup? M.M.M... I absolutely love the breads here. Really friendly and honest owners. They told me they would give a discount on their bread as it had been baked the day before, so they couldn't charge me the full price. Their apple squares are really good. The walnuts in it add to the texture and it's just the right level of sweetness. Try their Walnut and cranberry sour dough. Crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. My sister bought some cookies at Michael's the other day and I was so intrigued by this bakery because the cookies were so delicious. So I decided to come in and discovered carb heaven! The bakery is located just south of 152 on 24th in South Surrey. There's lots of parking in the plaza with other interesting stores like a cool looking bookstore. I was immediately taken by the smell of fresh bread and they do have quite a selection. I made a bee line for the cookies and pastries and couldn't choose from all the awesomeness. The one guy working behind the counter was not very communicative as I asked him questions about his products (he just shrugged or moved his head to respond...a bit rude as he spoke fluent English). As expected in a good bakery, the products were expensive so I just picked up a box of assorted cookies and slices of apple cakes. I can't wait to take my parents, who lives nearby but didn't know this bakery was there, to visit and hopefully "Rudy McRude" is not working that day. read more

Whenever I'm across the street getting my hair cut(at Hair Art Academy) Michael's is a must stop.The have everything a good bakery should have plus sandwiches and coffees and tables to sit at. They also have a ton of cookies and several types that are gluten free. My favourite thing to get here is the sesame flat bread. The piece is huge (at least a foot square). Just finished the last piece of my Birthday Cake and it is probably the best Chocolate Hazelnut Cake I've ever had. Very rich and moist! Unlike those cakes sold in supermarkets, it is not too sweet. Went here in the late morning during the week. Bought a sausage roll and a brownie. Sausage roll was ok - kind of dry, nothing exciting. Brownie was awful! Tasted chemically and weird. Didn't even finish. At $6 for both I was extremely disappointed. Will not be returning. read more

Going mad over their apple turnover. If you have ever had Apple Turnover made by Zaro's Bakery in New York, this place comes close to the delightful taste. Mmmm... Delish... Delish... Had the most amazing cinnamon bun here. It really was to die for. They have lots of artisan breads here, so I had to take some of those home as well. Ordered an americano and then was worried when it came from a machine at the touch of a button, but it was a great coffee. And I am very picky with coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed my little moment here. Made it an afternoon; Black Bonds Book Store has their outlet store in the same parking lot and there is also a hospice thrift store in the lot also. I cannot believe what just happened. I bought a chocolate ganache cake from this bakery but found the cake not sliceable. There was barely any sponge to hold the cake - it was 97% filled with cream, like pudding. I tried cutting two slices, but the cake just kept collapsing - it was clearly not a "cake" but a "tiramisu." I went to the store today and asked for an exchange. The owner said it was my fault the cake had collapsed; I was supposed to run the knife under hot water before attempting to slice it. I told him I had this cake many times in the past and had no trouble, and anyone could clearly see that there was only the thinnest layers of sponge to hold the cake. Th owner then said he'd give me an exchange, but he'd have to take two slices out of the new cake to compensate for the ones I'd taken. I could not believe what I was hearing. Then the daughter of the owner came and told me she'd give me a whole cake but then I'd have to pay $10 for the two slices. I was flabbergasted. I was humiliated. I told them they shouldn't treat their customers like this, and they said they had many customers so they didn't need another one. I went to this store on every special occasion to grab cakes; I cannot believe they would treat a customer like this. They have insulted and humiliated me beyond words. I have never seen such cheap, greedy people. I will never, ever go back to this place. read more

Although I have heard the food here is good the people who work there (in particular the older man who makes sandwiches) are rude. I was here about a month ago and there was quite a line and I saw him bark and snap at almost everyone he served so I left. Tried to come back today for another chance and ordered two sandwiches. He didn't ask me any details...what kind of bread I wanted etc which to me seems normal at any deli?? And given that I've never been here before for a sandwich I wasn't sure how it worked. I noticed that he was putting all of the bread in the toaster and I just said 'oh sorry I don't want both of the sandwiches toasted just the one' and he became very irate and snapped at me that 'all of their sandwiches are toasted' To which I replied 'well you didn't ask me anything about what I wanted on the sandwich or if I wanted it toasted and I've never been here so'...and I won't be back again. read more

CELIACS BEWARE!!!!!This place only claims to be gluten-free!!!! If you have CELIAC or CROHN'S DISEASE or have WHEAT and related grain ALLERGIES or wheat/gluten triggered IBS - continue reading...otherwise ignore this review. While I am not Celiac I get really itchy when I eat stuff that is wheat based, says it may contain wheat or gluten or is manufactured in a facility that produces products containing wheat or gluten. Therefore I find it best to just eat gluten-free and stay away from related allergens. So regarding our visit to this bakery: My DH was trying to find me a place yesterday so that I could have some gluten-free treats. We walked in and started looking for the gluten-free stuff. I found their loaves of gluten-free bread inhabiting a basket and rubbing shoulders with loaves of Kamut bread on one side and a Rye-type bread on the other side. While the loaves themselves may have started out gluten-free, by the time they had finished cuddling together with the gluten containing Kamut and Rye breads, they were no longer _uncontaminated_ by gluten. Because the people in the bakery had displayed the bread in this manner, it lead me to suspect that they did not truly understand the concept of gluten-free. This meant that their claim of gluten-free would not be accurate and therefore it was not a place to eat. My husband and I did not order anything, but left as soon as we saw how the so-called gluten-free bread was displayed. This place may have great food for people without allergies or other serious health concerns, but it is not a place for people with Celiac or Crohn's Disease or various grain allergies of any severity or IBS that is triggered by certain wheat or gluten containing products. Love all breads. I agree the pumpkin bread is my favourite too, as is cranberry -nut. Cookies are great too, but...their scones are the best. You can get it only in early morning. Very nice owners, and staff too. Clean and welcoming place.
