I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time and I finally managed to get to it. Truth be told, I did poke into this place once about 2-3 years ago. Back then, I wasn't too impressed with what I saw but also...I had come very very late in the day, so a lot of stuff was sold out. This visit was much better as I came earlier in the day and there was much more food to choose from. They have an assortment of sandwiches, salads, pastries and dessert cakes to choose from. I chose the Mediterranean Croissant sandwich along with a Strawberry Matcha Latte. I was given one of those flashing buzzer thingies to alert me when my order was ready. It buzzed once when my sandwich was ready but my drink was not ready. I had to wait a long time before I got another buzz to pick up my drink. Don't understand why they didn't just serve everything to me all at once. Good thing I didn't bother waiting for my drink before sinking my teeth into my croissant sandwich. My sandwich had been nicely toasted and I wanted to enjoy it while it was still warm. Would have been nice to have my drink together with my sandwich. To compensate for the long wait, the person making my drink upgraded my small size drink to a large size free of charge. Well, good that they were at least aware of the fact that I had waited a ridiculously long time and tried to compensate for it. They get points for service. I did very much enjoy my croissant sandwich. It was nice and flaky with lots of flavor in it. Kinda wish it had been a bit larger. No complaints about the value. I think it was fairly priced for what it was. Just that...I really quite enjoyed this sandwich and so...I wish it had been larger so I could have had more of it to enjoy! They have some pretty reasonably priced baked goods at this place. I saw the most gigantic Pain Au Raisin that I'd ever seen and it was only $4.50. Couldn't pass on it with a price like that. Will have to get back there some time and buy a few more things to try! read more

If you're looking for a galette des rois, they have it here come January! They even sell it by the slice if you don't want the whole thing. Only caveat is that they can't put the toy figurine inside the galette due to food safety concerns. They do give you one on top (if you buy the whole galette) so I guess you can technically hide it in the cake at home? Also got a croissant! Yummy pasties all round! Wouldn't have found it if we weren't trying to find a galette des rois and I'm glad we came across this tucked away gem! This cute bakery in Port Coquitlam is the perfect study or reading spot! They offer a wide range of food and pastries - savory and sweet! And the atmosphere and the service is fantastic. In terms of food: Normandie ($8.50) - Prosciutto, camembert sandwich. I love that these sandwiches are made with Olivier's fresh Parisan baguettes. Although simple, I really enjoyed this toasted sandwich! Bayonne ($8.00) - Prosciutto, tomato, salad sandwich. We all thought the Normandie sandwich was better! I think a creamy cheese or a little more prosciutto could have helped the sandwich. Chocolate Croissant ($3.50) / Croissant ($3.50) - They are not as flakey as other bakeries, but I feel like you can never go wrong with croissants. Creme Brulee ($4.50) - The cream part of this dessert was delicious. But because it was refrigerated, the top is not sugar crusted as it would have been normally. That was definitely a little bit disappointing. Blueberry Mirror ($5.50) - Blueberry White Chocolate Mousse Cake was recommended to us! The cake was not bad, but I couldn't taste the blueberry as much, and it tasted more like white chocolate! Lemon Tart ($5) - To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of meringue, but it looked good for the pics! The lemon curd part was yummy, but I thought the shell was a little stale. Tip: I would ask which pastries are the freshest and get those ones! Tip: I wanted to get their loafs (I was eyeing the lemon loaf), but they sold out by the time I stood up again to grab more treats! Oftentimes I'll grab a loaf of bread from my local grocer on the way home, but recently Olivier's has had me driving to the middle of nowhere to get my wheat fix. Located out in the boonies of Coquitlam near the IKEA, Olivier's Bread produces wonderful pastries and hearty loaves at its namesake bakery and cafe. The country whole wheat loaf is my go-to bread for sandwiches, as each piece holds a perfect amount of tension when you bite into it. It's chewy without being tough, soft without being mushy. The croissants are only $2.50 apiece (compared to many other Vancouver bakeries that charge $4 and up), and they're beautifully flaky. A golden brown crust pulls away to reveal buttery layers. The apple turnover had a warmly spiced, sweet yet balanced flavor. And the lemon tartlet!! Wow. Lemon curd was perfectly tart, and the marshmallow-like meringue mellowed it out so well. The staff have also been super friendly and helpful! When restrictions lift some more, I look forward to spending an afternoon studying/reading in the seating area while spending an exorbitant amount on a steady flow of pastries. read more

Have been wanting to try Olivier's for quite some time and finally made the drive out last weekend. A large variety of baked goods but it was a bit chaotic inside when we were there. We got a regular croissant, an almond croissant, an apple turnover, and a pistachio eclair. I wished the croissants were a bit more flakier and the eclair could have been a bit more fresh. Overall, not bad but wouldn't drive out of my way to come here. read more

Came to enjoy a coffee and drove 30min to get here with my family. A drink spilt by accident because of a toddler and the owner came and argued with us on how it's our responsibility to clean and explain how it's hard to retain staff, we offered to clean but the staff mentioned they've got it covered. The man did not feel bad at all was one of the rudest people, arguing with us in front of a toddler. The food was not good at all and the drinks were mediocre. Did not end up purchasing bread after this experience but their bread is good from other grocery stores. DO NOT GO HERE save your time and get their bread from somewhere else. read more

Recently discovered the breads made by these people, on a trip to Whistler. I live out of their area, but found the breads in two of my local stores. This is in Chilliwack. Have tried two breads, 'Mountain bread,' and 'Peasant,' and have been very impressed. There are others, but these are the two so far. I'll work my way through. We have artisan bakeries locally, but for over the super market counter, these have hit the mark. read more

This place is tucked away amongst a bunch of businesses which makes it a great quiet place to catch up over a cup of coffee and a pastry. They also have tables with a couple of outlets around (good for studying). Their pastries are massive which is generous for their price! Will definitely be coming back. read more

New Favourite Bakery! Where to begin. From the friendly staff, amazing cheesecakes, traditional eclairs to the bread! Croissants and of course great cup of coffee this spacious very clean bakery is a must. Watch out!! Closed on Sundays - don't be disappointed like I was. But!!! So worth checking out Monday to Satuday. The parking lot is massive and free so take your time and savour a treat! My friend recommended this bakery so we meet up here for a lunch date. There is a good selection of baked goods, a sandwich and coffee bar available. I ended up with a custom sandwich as the employee made the wrong one initially and then fixed the mistake by adding the egg I had initially wanted. Sandwich was good. I was pleased that she tried to fix the mistake. I also ordered a croissant as well and it was average. I liked that there was a seating area so you can sit down and enjoy the meal. Got the Oreo mousse and the caramel bomb. These items were reasonably priced. I will say that the mousse had more of a marshmallow texture that I wasn't expecting. It all started well. Lining up for over 2 hours in front of the French Consulate to do my duty (aka vote), a red head lady passed by and offered free mini croissants to everybody around to promote the opening of their new coffee place. Croissants were not amazing, but they tasted rather good. After finally being able to do our duty, my special person and I met the owner, Olivier, on our way out and kindly & ingenuously asked if we could have another mini croissant (that he was still giving). He said no, which is totally fine, but there's the rub: HE THEN SAID YES IF I'D KISS HIM on the cheek. I first thought it was a (bad) joke, so I mentioned him that the person next to me was my boyfriend. I naively thought he'd understood that what he was asking for was inappropriate, but he clearly didn't care and pointed out his cheek even more. I of course said no again, to which he responded "too bad for you!" Seriously? What is that? Did he really think I was a piece of meat? Going back? NOT EVER. And if you care about woman's rights and gender equality, I nicely invite you to do the same. read more

Excellent bread and french pastries but the dine-in experience is marred. You pay a premium price for the food but have to self serve, collecting your food from the counter and bussing your dishes. You receive a small cup if you order the drip coffee and have to self serve from a carafe. Both times I've been there the coffee wasn't hot and had obviously been out for a while. In addition there's a notice posted that you need to pay acain if you want a refill, that under the circumstances I find a little outrageous. The staff are friendly and helpful but the service is disorganized and slow, probably because this is a new restaurant so hopefully it'll get better. I'll be back to buy their baking but I won't be eating-in until some of these issues are addressed. read more

I met the son of the owner of Olivier's who spoke glowingly of his father's approach to baking bread so I tried it for a few months. I wanted to give a local Canadian bakery a chance. From the beginning, I found the bread to be dry, even that just delivered; indeed, the son of the owner was delivering fresh bread when I met him in a North Vancouver store. Besides being dry, the bread seems to use a kind of yeast that I have an intolerance to; it makes me itchy, especially (and surprisingly) the sourdough and, even more so, the ciabbata. I tried different batches. Although Olivier's does not advertise using organic ingredients, it claims to not use preservatives, gmo, sugar, oil or dairy. Perhaps, the dryness had something to do with the slow fermentation process or 'artisanal leavening' or low gluten flour listed on the package. My bet is on the yeast used and what is fed to the yeast (no added sugar) to start the leavening (sourdough is not supposed to contain added yeast). A few days ago my mind was made up about Olivier's Boulangerie of Burnaby after I found a foreign object in a piece of its mini multigrain loaf (March 16 expiry date). I wrote to the company about the product, including the adulterant I found in its bread. The website listed on the bread packaging does not work, perhaps they don't want to hear from customers. I tried their facebook page though I do not like to compromise my security and privacy by using facebook. I have received no response from Olivier's. Buy local, yes, but local that demonstrates quality control with its food products and local that responds to customer concerns. read more

New location for the factory outlet of Oliver's Breads. This is my favourite place to get bread, and now they've added a lovely cafe with tasty things to eat and excellent coffee. Delicious chocolate croissants. My son brought me one home as he first had them at school and then he went there with his Grandpa. Amazing! Not oily at all and the chocolate was delicious. I've never had a croissant that tasted so good! Highly recommended as well by my 13 year old son. :) read more
