Really great spot for a breakfast in Steveston! The pricing is fabulous and the folks working here were really kind and kept checking on us. Nice patio to sit with my dog, and the food was pretty good. Not fancy, but freshly made and well portioned! Iced coffee on a hot day was perfect, and I like that they had a dog water bowl and dog leash tie ups. It's pretty small and on a weekday morning there weren't any open tables inside. There were still a lot of food options left though. We tried the nanaimo bar, butter tart and blueberry muffin. They were all good! We wanted a bakery that specifically made nanaimo bars, so we were happy to find this. It's in a really cute area that would be nice to walk around. Pretty underwhelming. I was looking forward to coming here. We came on a sunny Sunday morning and there was only one customer at a table so I should have clued in. I wanted a bagel and cream cheese but didn't see any or on the menu. Finally I asked and they said yes they could do that but that but that never usually works out well so I ordered off the menu. The baked items looked ok and one oerson had the cheese scone and said it was good. I ordered a veggie sandwich on a toasted bagel. I think it was $11. Got a smallish bagel that was toasted I think but not crispy or taosty just warm. There was a scraping of cream cheese that was so thin it looked like butter or something , not the amount you should put on a,lunch time sandwich. There was then one piece of lettuce a bit of onion two cucumber slices and two tomato . That's it. There was no green pepper on it as advertised. It came with some tossed salad with a drizzle,of some sort of white dressing that just mostly. Tasted moist no real flavour. Another person had a blt which was deemed ok. If I had a restaurant I would want to make the best I could not just do enough to slide by. The effort seemed underwhelming although the staff was pleasant. I don't eat out as much as before Covid so getting my dollar takes a little more work. Will not be returning. read more

Simple, laid back bakery. Came here on a Sunday morning and it was surprisingly full...likely, with regulars because they seemed to be familiar with the owners. You get to pour your own cup o' joe and they'll bring breakfast to your table. So nice and quaint. Perfect if you want no frills. The bakery items look really good too! I've been here in the afternoons where the selection isn't as good because most of the goodies are sold out. When we visited in the morning, the array of pastries and breads looked delightfully tempting...didn't get to buy any though because breakfast filled us up! As long as you don't expect "gluten-free this" or "artisan that", then you'll like what Steveston Bakery has to offer. This place is totally unpretentious and old-school. They bake their goods fresh daily, and since it's a small operation, they carry a somewhat limited inventory of pastries. That said, we like their muffins and turnovers. I don't know if they use lard, shortening or what when they make their pies and turnovers, but whatever they use tastes terrific, I can't tell you if they serve good coffee because I usually go to the Starbucks or Waves across the street. But, this place does fairly brisk business, so customers seem to like their beverages as well. read more

I love bakeries, I really do. There's something about the sweet smell in the air the minute you walk in, and the beautiful assortment of pastries lined up on display ready for you to eat, that just has me salivating almost every single time I step into a bakery. This spot is no different. My brother and I had just finished our lunch, and we needed a small sweet treat to balance our all the savoury we just put in our bellies. The Steveston Bakery was right across the street, so we just popped in real quickly. Alas, the minute we walked in that sweet smell washed over us, and I was excited to take a look at what different pastries they had to offer. Croissants, muffins, cheesecakes... I did not know how I was going to pick just one. I settled on a chocolate croissant (although the almond croissant looked equally tempting) and my brother got a mini carrot cake - cream cheese frosting and all. My croissant, while yummy and chocolatey, was nothing in comparison to that carrot cake. WOW. It was perfect and so, so, so moist (and I hate using that word). It was so rich, that after 2 bites I was more than satisfied. The lady helping us at the register was a sweet older woman - I wasn't able to catch her name, but she was so helpful and very, very kind. I also saw that they serve an assortment of brunch items - breakfast bagels, breakfast burritos, and eggs benny... so I'd love to come back to check this out - especially since they bake all their bread in house! I have to admit that I felt pretty skeptical walking in to grab lunch on the go. The place was jam packed and the staff were all in a frenzy (they were friendly though). The menu was easy enough to navigate but there's a separate board near the back letting you know what type of sandwich you can get. I opted for the turkey bagel sandwich on the last bagel (white) they had left and refused to have cheese added for an additional dollar (the sign for that was on another board). I got back to work and I was blown away by how good my bagel sandwich was. There was a good variety of veggies (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green bell pepper and red onions) and a nice big stack of turkey meat. The only other thing inside was some mayo. The entire thing was panini pressed and it smelled incredible and the lines were delicious! I paid $6.95 and for a hearty sandwich in a tourist area, I think that's more than reasonable. There were a lot of customers ordering sweeter desserts but they didn't look all that appetizing. Maybe I'll swing by for a dessert next time and give it a go. read more

Do not buy coffee there. A bakery that sells an assortment of cakes, muffins, etc., needs to have a decent coffee machine! They have lukewarm coffee in thermos, and it is very weak. For $2.90 they charge, you buy decent cup at Starbucks on the corner. read more

The place is pretty clean and kid friendly with a variety of other baked goods like ham and cheese crossaint. Dropped in for lunch and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The atmosphere is really laid-back and welcoming. The staff is wonderful--really friendly and gives great suggestions. It would be nice to see a younger crowd in there. The soup and sandwich were great--it's difficult to find a decent veggie sandwich anywhere. I tried a couple of their pastries and really enjoyed the grand-marnier. Skip Tim Horton's and go somewhere worth your money. Everything is homemade, not frozen like you get at other places. I love this bakery. It's not fancy, or expensive. It doesn't have high-end trendy foods. I've ordered several (reasonably priced and delicious) birthday cakes, coming in through the dreaded tunnel to collect them, and have always been pleased to have made the trek. Just had their veggie soup with a multi - grain bun. I didn't know if I would like the soup so the person behind the counter gave me a sample and it was delicious. Other customers also told me they loved the daily soups. I agree with the review on this place being a big step up from Tim Horton's. I know they make their soups daily but I wonder if all the veggies are fresh. The kale and potatoes looked fresh but not sure about the corn, carrots and peas. The bun was a bit on the soft, airy side but it came with the soup so no complaints. Likely not as organic or fresh as living cafe but it has a casual atmosphere that I like with friendly service, tasty food, great prices and a good location. If you want fresh baked, in-house delicious, this place is hard to beat. I stop in almost every time I'm in the neighbourhood and resample the carrot cake. I'm sure it's the best I've tried in the Lower Mainland, but then again, one of the regular staffers has dubbed me Mr. Carrot Cake. Not really fair ... I've tried lots of the other offerings, and they always have that fresh, home-baked quality. Mind you, they haven't blown the budget on decor. Don't have to. The staff seems focused on baking and filling the shelves, which in summer are frequently sold out by late afternoon. I live directly across from this bakery. I am not big into baked goods so I hadn't visited the bakery for the first month that I was living in Steveston. I finally went in for the first time last month because I had heard so many good things about them. The bakery is old school. I love it. They treat their customers like gold. I am obsessed with their german rye bread. They bake everything daily. I ordered a cake for my dad's birthday and asked for something that wasn't on the cake menu. They instantly said YES (music to my ears) and made me a white vanilla cake with coconut shavings. I brought it to the party and each person (literally, each person) said it was the best cake they had ever tasted in their lives. All my life I haven't liked muffins or cake, but I tried a bit, then cut myself a piece. It was so light and airy and moist and amazing. Wow. I am a super loyal customer and the staff are so sweet, they deserve a shout out on Yelp. Please don't ever change, little bakery! You are one of a kind. read more

This place has pretty good food, especially the soups. I used to LOVE their paninis; they were flavourful, fresh, and had beautiful/tasty grill lines on the bread. Now though... I don't know if they changed their cooks or recipes, but it tastes almost nasty now. Dry, flavourless, and sometimes the vegetables aren't even properly cooked. If the paninis go back to the good old days, I would give this place a 5-star for sure. Something else I noticed... some of the staff are not the nicest. At least 2 of the older employees there (maybe the managers?) never smile and talk in a rude tone. The young staff there are always great and friendly though. read more

Their yeast-free cranberry bread and their sour dough bread ($1.00 a loaf on sourdough Saturdays!) are my favourites. Few places bake their breads and baked goods from scratch and on the premises daily, but Steveston Bakery does. Their pies and cheese cakes are delicious. I have tried many of them. Their pie crusts are light and flaky and re-heat really well. Cheesecakes come in various flavours and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients they use. They also have some old-school pastries like "eccles cakes", various types of tarts, date squares, and beef and chicken sausage rolls that are really nice as a snack with a cup of tea or coffee. The pastries and cookies have great flavour without being sugary or overly sweet. Prices are affordable and the service is great. A thumbs up from me! read more

This is a wonderful little bakery/coffee shop. I frequent it often and have never been disappointed. One can drop in for a cup of tea - no, not just a cup but where else can one go and get a nice pot of tea that will give you at least 3 cups of nice hot tea! If you love coffee, they have several different choices that also includes a decaf choice. Hot chocolate for those who don't want tea or coffee and lots of chold drinks to choose from. If you want to have something with your tea or coffee, there is plenty to choose from from cookies to the very decadent sweets and everything inbetween! The little shop usually has someone in there who might be looking for a bit of conversation or at other times, it is nice to sit and be able to read the paper. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A wonderful place to drop in, in the afternoon or for that morning jolt of java. read more

I have been going to the Bakery for approx 25 years..since it opened. I love the home-made muffins, soups, wraps, crepes, sandwiches and salads. Everything always tastes wonderful and I know it is made on the premises. I take my mom for her clam chowder/roll every Saturday and I normally have the chicken wrap or a salad. My husband loves the Bacon and Egg burrito and has it twice a week. He has referred it to a few people, who come for it now as well. This is like our second home and the staff is like my family. If any of my family or friends cannot find us at home in the mornings, they know they can find us here. We start each morning at the bakery with tea and coffee and meet up with the other regulars, who have become our friends as well. read more

Really, really disappointed. I checked this place out thinking it'd be a good bakery. Lots of old-timer locals (hoping this was a good sign and not just an indication of cheap coffee). I asked two staff people to recommend a baked good. I was very specific about what I wanted (a certain type of dessert). They both told me this one item matched what I wanted. As it was a gift I couldn't try it then and there. I gave the dessert to my spouse and they thanked me for the thought but the product was not what I'd asked for.
