First point of advice:. be hungry when you arrive, very hungry. I ordered the 12 oz prime rib and my husband got the chicken fried steak. Huuuuuuge portions! Each entree came with the soup and salad bar, a side and a mini chimichanga. I tried the chowder and it reminded me of my mom's beloved recipe. It wasn't super thick but I love it that way. It was loaded with tender clams and potatoes. I garnished it with some chopped bacon from the salad bar, and it was almost identical to my mom's chowder. Salad dressings were housemade and definitely tasted like it-- very good. We both ordered mashed potatoes. Mine came loaded like a baked potato, hubby's came with gravy. We could not finish our meals. We tried. We wanted to, but we just couldn't find room. Both meals were among the best we'd ever had. The CFS was hand breaded and fried. It wasn't frozen or out of a box. Gravy was fantastic. My prime rib was amazing. Very well seasoned with a dollop of horseradish sauce. The beef itself was flavorful and tender. It came with au jus, as well. The only criticism we have is that maybe they could offer "travelers portions" like a half-sized option for people traveling with no way to store all of those leftovers from the full sized versions? Wow!! Great restaurant with great service and incredible food!! My wife and I were traveling and spent the night in town and this restaurant looked great and boy is it, I had a chicken fried steak and it was huge with delicious gravy, homemade mashed potatoes and a killer salad. This thing is huge and I was lucky too have been able to eat half with the rest to go. It's so tender and full of flavor so it's easy to keep eating. My wife had steak fingers with homemade fries and it's a huge portion as well. Both entrees were served fresh, hot and so full of flavor. We will definitely eat here again. read more

The ribeye was flavorful but had a lot of fat and gristle on it. For $42, I was expecting it to be a little more tender and piping hot. The accompanying baked potato was saturated in topping and was pretty messy. What's better than a great meal? How about an unexpectedly great meal! Driving through Rawlins, I ...um... wasn't exactly expecting to find outstanding food. I gotta start with the Caesar salad. This is one of the few places where the dressing isn't the extremely creamy nonsense that most places serve up, and I think I did taste anchovy. It was a great start. I ordered a sirloin and loaded potatoes, and had a good laugh at the solid truth on display on the menu. Medium rare is perfect, well done is ruined. A cow was sacrificed to become a steak, don't disrespect the cow by ordering well done. The steak came out with a wad of (I think) garlic butter and a shishito pepper on top of it. It was among the best steaks I've ever had. Juicy as could be.... I mean, there isn't much more to say about a steak. There was a little bean and cheese chimichanga with some green sauce on it, which was a tasty little surprise. Also unexpected was a yummy little roll. The loaded pile of potatoes proved to be more than I could eat, but it was awesome as well. If you happen to be passing through Rawlins, make it a point to have dinner here! You wont be disappointed! Incredible quality in a humble town. Nicer inside than you would expect. Classic western decor. Great steakhouse salad, fresh greens (Rawlins, Wyoming), wonderful dressings, homemade croutons, real bits of bacon, red onion rings, delicious! Then comes their "small" prime rib. Served on a sizzling iron plate, horseradish, au jus, and tasty hot side. Prime rib was perfectly cooked (med/rare) on a Tuesday night in Rawlins ain't easy. Perfect, tender, nicely done. They had Guinness, and everything that came out of kitchen looked huge and amazing. We even got a complimentary little homemade chimichanga with our dinner. Truly, that little delight and the steakhouse salad was plenty for me. This is a must if you are staying in Rawlins. It's right on Spruce st in front of Quality Inn. Looks like a common bar and grill, but look out, it's a steakhouse that could compete in any town. Vibe are decor are on point for the location and type of restaurant. Rustic, tons of pictures of people i don't recognize but assume were once well-known. Service is unapologetically slow. We got there at like 440. The place was empty, and it was still 15 before we saw a server. Queso fundido is pretty good. Not $15 good. You can taste brand names like Campbell and Rotel, which is annoying. Still good cheese with spicy seasoned chips. Another half forever and my mushroom and swiss burger arrived. The meat tasted fresh, tender, juicy, not huge on flavor. It's not a huge burger. A healthy, proportionate one for the price of a burger that can feed 3. Mid burger. The fries were soggy, and there were so many of them! My dad got the chicken fried chicken which was huge. He didn't finish it but ate about half. They removed the potato, mixed with butter and brown sugar. Placed back in skin and melted marshmallows on top. I thought was at out Thanksgiving table. The prime was presented on a sizzling plate cooked to perfection. Taste was spit on. Horseradish is something to be cautious with, it has a nose clearing quality. The street corn style corn ribs were fantastic and we always get the brick of onion rings appetizer. We like to share an entree and they have a deal where you can get an extra potato and salad for $8 which is reasonable. Our only issue was that we ordered the prime rib which was excellent. But we asked if it was available and they said yes. Then we waited forever only to be told that there wasn't any and they'd had to cook a new one. Soooo this little hole in the wall was a quick stop on our drive from Denver to Salt Lake City. Michael's Big City Steakhouse is exactly what I imagined when I think of backwoods Wyoming. It has a log cabin vibe, giant deer heads on the walls, and I never knew that so many American flag decor could exist in one place. If you're a republican you'll certainly feel right at home. I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the very weird vibes that my husband and I experienced as an interracial couple here. Strange looks from everyone and it kind of felt like stepping back in time (not in a cute/vintage way). All that being said the food was AMAZING. I usually can never finish a burger but I tore that bad boy up! I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe and had them add avocado (you know how it is, gotta keep it healthy with some greens) $15 for a gigantic burger and boatload of fries. My husband ordered country fried steak which he said was "pretty good" (he's a man of few words and kept eyeing the one wide-eyed photo of the only Black celebrity hanging on the wall- see photo for reference). One of the worst steak dinners I've had. Steak was grissely and full of fat. For the whopping cost of $42 it was a disappointment.
