Hubby picked this restaurant because of 'steak & seafood', which we have not eaten since last week. Our waitress was OK, friendly, prompt, until they have a large group that went upstairs. We came in about 6pm, (no reservation we took our chances) and was seated right away. I was impressed by the ceiling chandeliers, and the cozy atmosphere. The room we were in accommodate two tables, we sat in one by a window. The same crystal chandelier matched in every room and hallway. The velvet drapes with the hallway bench by the stairs. The rooms were small, you could hear them talking, word by word, if you keep quiet because of the echo. I love the fact, it's a Victorian home, but the toilet didn't flush (when I got there and when I used it). The room was comfortable, being 79 degrees outside. I ordered Seafood Fettuccine, and salad. Hubby ordered NY Steak & Lobster. The steak was 10oz. and it came with salad mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were delicious, best mashed he ever had. The steak was pretty good when eaten dipped in butter sauce (he said). My Fettuccine was very hot. As it cools down it start to taste 'runny' but good. I'm taking 3/4th for another meal. The crab was shredded, equals to one crab leg. I've eaten better Seafood (shrimp & shredded crab) Fettuccine in the past. We waited a long time for our check! Traveled all day and saw that Aspen House Restraunt was the best in the west. The steak was amazing, but.... we were put in an upstairs room. It took the waitress 4 trips to finally find a wine they had in the bar. We ate our salad and our meal was delivered before the wine.... The bread (extra cost) was dry. We were going to split a filet mignon, now it's only 7:30 and she says we are out of that, so we order the medallion steak medium but it came well done. The outside was crunchy like it was burnt and it was tough. There were two asparagus on top of a mound of mashed potatoes, which the potatoes were not very tasty. We ordered clam chowder over a salad that was very runny, no flavor and only had potatoes in it. Small table and we had four people with salad, soup, entrées, and the remainder of our appetizer still on the table. Unexpected find while passing through Rawlins. The traditional steak-house fare is all excellent, and served hot and fast. The chef/owner is from Indonesia and includes some Asian options: we tried the spring rolls (Lumpia) which were also excellent. Wonderfully friendly service in a classy but homey atmosphere. We enjoyed a memorable tenderloin dinner at the Aspen House while traveling through Wyoming. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. Imagine our surprise in finding a linen-tablecloth restaurant. Our server was attentive and prompt, the steak was really top-notch, being perfectly cooked and the sides just added to the enjoyment. We had lovely filet green beans, the mashed potatoes (with just the right amount of skin, garlic and soft bits) as well as sautéed onion and mushroom. All together, it was a perfect meal. read more

We were driving through from California to Colorado and wanted a nice place to celebrate my daughter's 19th birthday. We called ahead to see if they could do a little special something for her. After a number of issues with our trip, we arrived in Rawlins so late, we didn't think they'd take us, so were heading somewhere else. Then we got a call from the owner, Justin, looking for us and even tho it was 5 min until closing time, he said we're absolutely should come on over. That was really great service! The restaurant is in a converted house, upscale decorated... dark wood trim, crystal chandeliers, candles on the tables, etc. My daughter got the Steak Diane and it was huge and delicious, especially with garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection! I got the shrimp & artichoke pasta, which was also a generous size and delicious with the right amount of garlic. The Caesar salad seemed like a bottled dressing, and the clam chowder was kinda gel-like and short on content other than cream. They brought my daughter a free coffee cake with whipped cream & a candle for her birthday, which was nice, but the coffee cake didn't align with the upscale vibe and our elegant dinner. They evidently had a whole tray of beautiful desserts that we didn't get to see until after the coffee cake, which was a missed opportunity. I've "attempted" to eat here 3 times now. When a restaurant claims to be the "best" something, then I 'm always up for the test. There is a difference between a restaurant claiming to be the "best hand cut steaks", and being the best cooked steak. Aspen House is not the later. The first and third time I ate there, the steak was undercooked. Why can't a freakin steakhouse not cook a steak to order correctly?! Use a freakin thermometer. Ironically, both times I had a steak, the "vegetable of the day" was broccolini. Both times, it was undercooked crunchy. Almost raw. The second time I "ate" there, I was asked to wait for a table. I sat there in the lobby for 30 minutes as I watched empty tables sit there. I left. The service is always great, however. However, the menu claims to be "made from scratch", and being a Chef, I call BS on that. The croutons on my salad were bought, the blue cheese dressing was store bought nasty tasting, the carrots on my salad were pre-bought, the demi glace with my steak was sweet and store bought, and the chocolate cake I got to go order was a pre-made dessert (no silverware provided). All of it was obvious, shiny, nasty tasting pre-made shit. I won't be back to waste my money any more. read more

The place is unique. Set in an old home table settings were beautiful. We arrived near closing time. The staff was great. We we're seated quickly. I had the seafood with Arrabiata Sauce. It tasted good but need more spice and I would have preferred the pasta mor all dente. My husband enjoyed the chicken Alfredo. I think if I had to choose again I would try a beef option but all in all the food was solid. A highlight of the meal was the soup and salad. I went to Aspen House for an early dinner. I had an excellent ribeye with broccolini. The old fashioned I ordered did not resemble a cocktail you'd expect from an upscale steakhouse. This place is nice and the food was pretty good. The bread basket rolls were okay- two were quite dry. You have to order those and it just wasn't worth the four bucks. The steak and mashed potatoes were excellent. But the dessert was very disappointing. We ordered the chocolate cheese cake and it tasted similar to a hostess ding dong, cheese cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate chips. The service was not great but it might have been his first night. Surely seemed that way. However, what was truly upsetting is not being notified that we were being charged for items such as an extra plate or seltzer water. We'd still come back because we liked our food overall and just assume the waiter is new. But we won't order the dessert or bread basket or pay $4 for seltzer water again. read more

It was well-seasoned with some charring(mmmm), very tender and was on fact, the best I've had in some time. I also ordered sautéed mushrooms which were also excellent. This is a cute restaurant. We had a room all to ourselves, but there was no detectable air conditioning, no fans or windows open, so it was not comfortable. We had 1 amazing dish (filet and shrimp in peppercorn sauce), 2 really good dishes (seafood fettucine and fried calamari), 2 pretty good dishes (ribeye and clam chowder) and 1 terrible dish that made me regret even coming to this restaurant (BBQ Cajun Ribeye). This last dish says that it is seasoned in Cajun spices and grilled to perfection. I tasted no cajun spices AT ALL and the steak is topped with shrimp and DROWNED in BBQ sauce. The sauce did nothing for the steak or the shrimp and ruined the dish. BBQ Shrimp in New Orleans isn't BBQ sauce at all... it's a creamy and flavorful sauce (Emeril has a famously popular version of this). This is what I was expecting, but I would've been happy if the steak still tasted good... which it did not. Also, their steak knives were poor quality so I was sawing away at an expensive piece of meat. The desserts (cheesecake and carrot cake) we delicious, but I feel the main dishes are more important at an expensive restaurant. This meal cost us $400. It was $100 more than the best meal we had during our vacation (and probably in a very long time). To spend so much more and not come up to the same level of enjoyment makes me drop the rating on this restaurant. I would not return here and I only gave it a 2nd star because the Filet was an excellent dish. read more

First of all, this steakhouse was amazing. I'm biking across the US and coming into Rawlings I saw a bill board saying the had the best steak in Wyoming. So I decided to give it a try. My friend and I after cleaning up walked to the restaurant. The restaurant is in an older house and is quite charming.The service was very good and attentive. My husband and I are on a mini vacation and he so graciously let me pick dinner. I wanted somewhere where we could talk without a lot of distractions. What a delightful surprise! My husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Aspen House Restaurant. Everything from the food, service and atmosphere was superb. We started off with the crab dip, so good. And for the main entree my husband ordered the ribeye as I enjoyed the rack of lamb. You don't see lamb on the menu at most places so I am so glad I decided to try. The meal did not meet expectations. Steak not cooked as ordered and was definitely not, as promoted, "the best steak in Wyoming". Mashed potatoes were bland and Bread, which cost extra, appeared to be heated in the microwave. The quality of the food needs to be taken up a notch or the prices need to be lowered. On the positive side the ambiance is pleasant and charming with several small dining rooms graced with beautiful chandeliers and nice music. They claim this is the best steak in Wyoming. I'm going to have to agree. Steaks were incredible. Crab Rangoon appetizer was delicious and the sweet and sour sour sauce complemented them perfectly. Not your normal sticky pink mess by far. We had the shrimp cocktail and the cocktail sauce had good flavor not spicy at all (happily). I had the sirloin and crab legs. This is Wyoming but there were no horses or cowboys but if you squint your eyes I'm sure you can picture them here. I travel and really enjoy a good meal. I tried the Cajun rib eye with asparagus and it was GREAT! The house is very interesting with an interesting chandelier!
