Here's the short story, we were in Lahaina Maui before the fires. We met an artist on front street and bought a piece of art that we've had in storage for a while. But it's very sentimental with everything that's happening with our friends in Hawaii. So I bid it out to a couple of local frame shops and it came back at $875... I said no. So I went to Michaels where I've had good luck in the past with a great framer named Rob. He totally got that. Walked into michaels a little after 8p to get some last minute crafting supplies. I was looking for small rubber bands, and after searching through every side could not find them. I asked the man at the cashier and he without even thinking said they don't carry them. But online it said they did (they little tiny kind). I found it myself and proceeded to tell the cashier what aisle they were in. Very unhelpful and not friendly. Walked into Michaels looking for tulle. Asked the girl at the front desk (who was reading a magazine) where it was. She stared at me like I'd asked her to explain quantum physics, said she didn't know what it was, and then vaguely waved at "the fabric" section. When I asked if she could show me, She told me no. When asked if there was anyone else who could show me, she called on the radio, then went right back to her magazine. That "someone else" never showed. I searched myself. When I went back to the lady at the front desk, three employees were huddled around a customer saying they didn't know how to do a refund. Suddenly front desk girl remembered I needed help, and the new girl pointed me to the wrong aisle before eventually reappearing from nowhere with the wrong item. When I finally found a different color tulle I could use, I was told to go to the back to have it cut. The woman there confirmed the price FIVE times like I was negotiating for a kidney before she'd cut it. The only competent person in the building was (Bethany or Britney, some B- name) with the multi-colored hair who rang me up at the end. The rest acted like they had committed a crime in the back and were trying not to get caught. Genuinely one of the most bizarre and unhelpful retail experiences I've ever had. read more

Limited supply and low energy employees. This location always looks like they're running out of supplies. The shelves have almost always looked bare - I've actually notices that most stores in this area lack inventory. The staff here are also not very helpful... today I went in looking for push pins/thumbtacks. I asked one person, she didn't know and asked another staff. She said "if we did they'd be here" and led me to then beading/jewelry area. I them asked- "do you have classroom supplies, like cork boards... they'll probably be some there" and she goes, "no, sorry". So... naturally I went to look anyways- and there they were. Back corner, in the aisle with school supplies :/ I wish there were another micheals near by, or that this one would at least step it up a bit. read more

I walked every aisle to ask about a product and other than the framing dept there were no employees on the floor. Tried the next day again and same thing. Store is so unorganized. This review is for the Aaron Brothers custom framing service inside the Encinitas Michaels. First: very costly. Even with the 60% off discount coupon it still cost nearly $400 to frame two posters. Second: not timely. We were told it would take two weeks to frame the posters because it was near the holiday. (Don't believe the claims of 24-Hour custom framing!) After 3 weeks we hadn't heard from them (they said they would call when it was ready.) I was told they were waiting on an out of stock color for the matting. (Again they said they'd call when it was ready.) I called 5 weeks later and was told it was ready but they never called to let me know. Third: quality. After six weeks wait for a very basic frame job of two posters with black metal frame and basic white matting, we go to pick it up and there are black flecks trapped between the glass and the poster/matting. They guy seemed surprised that I noticed. So we only took one framed poster home and will probably be two months out before we get the second one. Bottom line: don't waste your time and money! read more

They've made a large technology investment to provide mandatory self checkout stations. If you want to have someone check you out you will need to be paying cash. And I feel really bad for the employees that have to deal with people adjusting to this new system. So sad to see corporations putting profits over people. read more

Went to this location in Feb 2024. Totally weird, saw two employees upon entering. I smiled at them, neither greeted my husband and I and not even a smile back. Strange!! A particular brand of candles had 40% off signs all through the aisle. We went to the ridiculous self cashiers(they're all self serve now no customer service!) they were coming up full price. I rang for the attendant which took a while..I said these are supposed to be 40% off she rang it up herself and just said hmmmm. We said there are sale signs all over the aisle for this product. She just looked at us like a deer in headlights saying nothing. We just put the products back and left. Another customer was asking for a basket to shop with. The same girl said we don't have those. The customer said you don't have shopping carts???? The girl said oh. Oh my gosh where are these employees from! The manager needs to do some serious training. Business is going to tank. I went in yesterday to get one thing- unaware they were closing soon. As I start to finish my decision a brunette/blonde employee walks up to my daughter and I and says "we are closing in 5min so hurry up and make your selection and go up front and pay" I said "ok I will" I of course thought It was rude but I didn't say anything because my daughter was there and I didn't want a scene in front of her. 3min later she comes back and stands in the isle we are in and stares- we continue to decide which pack we are going to get and she asks if she can help me find something I said no, thank you I know what we're getting just choosing the quantity. She replies " ok because again we are closing in 1min and the terminals will be shut down so get up front now" Jesus Christ. I am trying to be quick! We run up front and use the self check out - she's not standing my the front door looking so red and irritated. I'm using Apple Pay and of course it's not scanning. I tell her I'm sorry it's not working, she starts to walk over all pissed off but it worked last second. As I'm walking out I tell her I'm sorry I didn't know they closed earlier on sundays. She didn't say anything back to me. I get it- they are closing and want to go home but damn I have never been kicked out like that. These five stars go right to Soleil, the awesome Michael's employee who made my experience there this evening so awesome! This goes to show managers and corporate that GREAT employees are what drive the customer experience. I've been to this Michael's in the past and never had such a great experience, because no one went out of their way to help me, as Soleil did this evening. I was walking around, very confused, trying to find items to help me make games for a SpongeBob birthday party for a child. I have never done such a project, so I was overwhelmed. I had not asked anyone for help, but Soleil came over to me and very kindly asked if I needed anything. She proceeded to go out of her way to make suggestions on how I could make a SpongeBob crabby patties with felt... and as the store began to close, she offered to go across the store to grab my scissors, needle and thread, and even stuffing! The entire time, she was beyond friendly, genuine, and kind. As I was trying to hold too many things and move towards the cash register, she even offered to push my basket! I've never had any employee at any store be so kind! When I went to check out, the cashier was very sweet, and the manager went out of her way to smile, ask if I needed anything else, and facilitate me getting a ruler at the last minute. I was surprised at the bad reviews this Michael's location. The times I've had to ask for help or had questions, that employee would be very helpful. I came in to Michael's looking for some cake decorating supplies. There was a specific set I wanted. They did not have any out on the shelves. I guess I got lucky because a supervisor or manager ended up helping me out. Not only did she spend about ten minutes looking for the set but she gave me a 50% off coupon to use. I truly appreciated it since the set was not cheap! Like any Michael's the check out lines can get ridiculously long but, there really isn't a way to change that. I actually like this location a lot better than Vista, and Oceanside. It's more spacious, the aisles seem to be larger, walking through aisles seem to be easier, if someone is in the same aisle as you, you can pass them without invading their space. It seems very well organized here, and few different items for clearance/sale are offered here. Checkout counters are located right by the entrance, but the good thing with them facing the store is the employees can look at everyone/everything in general. read more

If you're a crafty, creative, yarn loving person, Michaels is the place for you. Some things this location offers are, holiday decorations, ribbon, yarn, picture frames, canvas with paint supplies, kid activities and fake flowers. There's a ton more than this but you get the idea....they offer most everything could could want. Only a few things can't be found at Michaels that you would think would be here, such as cross-stitch pre-printed patterns. They do offer thread and non pre-printed patterns though. Some other Pros are there's a Michaels app where a ton of coupons can be found almost every day, the sales are awesome when they are happening and the frame workers are really great if you want a custom frame made. So most other reviewers have pointed out, there a often times massive lines for the check out. I have noticed this has been greatly improved on with my last few visits in the store. read more

Just to be clear, this review is for Michaels in Encinitas only. I have been in this store 10 times on different days of the week over the past couple years. Every time I go in, the paint supply stock is completely decimated and the shelves are in shambles. I can never find the paints, brushes or other supplies I am looking for. It seems that the management doesn't know how to pre-order to keep the shelves properly stocked. And it seems the employees don't take the time to clean up. I have stopped going here because it is inevitably a waste of my time. I will go to any other Michaels location. read more

This place is a dump, and cramped. Given the choice between here and the O'side Michaels, I definitely like the location to the north. However, the Encinitas Michael's is the closest store to me so this is were I shop for craft stuff . . . sigh. I wish that the store was cleaner, better organized and had more room to maneuver. Maybe I am just a craft store snob but I have to say, I really wish we had a Hobby Lobby, A.C. Moore or one of the nicer craft stores near by. I'm giving this location 5 stars because what the employees have to put up with, I truly don't understand majority of the people that come in here acting like it's some sort of thrift store trying to make a deal in a RETAIL store it's absolutely ridiculous!! The fact I've seen grown adults throw temper tantrums cause they want something honored blows my mind and makes me think that the people here haven't been to a store before or have done there own shopping. I truly can't express how such a nice neighborhood being filled with some of cheapest people I have ever seen in my life disgusts me. I wanted to write this review to recognize Melissa in the frame department. She is extremely professional and gets her work done in a timely and efficient manner. I recently had a piece of art framed and she did an exceptional job finding the best deal and products to fit my needs. I only write 5 star reviews on yelp, and I never would have made the time to write a review for Michaels (I usually focus on small family owned businesses). If it wasn't for her beautiful job handling my art work I wouldn't have taken the time to write a review. When I gave her the print there was a business card on the back of the print featuring the artist, and she even went above and beyond to include that on the frame. I picked up my piece and was so glad I decided to spend a few extra dollars and wait a few days on the custom matt. So worth it. I'm extremely impressed with her customer service skills. I come here time and time again, looking for supplies when I get suckered into some craft project. The store generally has some form of the item that I'm looking for, but it often takes me a while to figure out exactly what I need. I'm not sure if it's just me being unfamiliar with the products out there or if the store itself could be more user friendly. came here to get myself a cricut machine...no clue what i'm gonna do with it yet..but it was on sale! hehe... i called ahead and they held it for me at the register. that was cool.. other than that...i couldn't find anything i needed in the store...i looked for help but to my dismay...no one to help me. This is my first review and I took the time to create a username and password for Yelp, sign-in, then write a small essay about their service, if that is any indication of how poor the Custom Framing services are at Michael's. I was the first person in my family to graduate from college, so when I completed my Master's degree my grandmother and mother offered to help me pay to have my degrees custom framed. I went to Michael's because they had a 70% off custom framing deal, and I was told the quality of their framing was good. However, over the course of a month I was sorely disappointed by the quality of my frames. The timing of getting my frames done the FIRST time took about a week, or as advertised. When I checked the quality of the framing I noticed some scratches and dings that weren't coming off, so the woman working did NOT apologize, but said "Oh yeah, weird" and said they'd re-do it. For frames that were over $200 (and that's 70% off!) I expected them to be done right the first time, but mistakes happen so I went home and waiting for them to be re-framed. The SECOND time I picked up my frames they seemed fine, but once I got home I noticed the top corner of one of my frames was CHIPPED! After weeks of back and forth at Michael's with ZERO accountability or apologies from the Custom Framing department I felt like it was pointless for me to go back and ask for a refund. I am so disappointed in the disregard and carelessness of my experience at the Custom Framing department at Michael's. I can't even bring myself to tell my mother or grandmother that their money to help me pay for my frames resulted in absolute dissatisfaction. While this particular Michael's is pretty tiny and compact, I know it well so it's easy for me. First timers may find themselves buried under glitter and pipe cleaners... and you'll probably have to yell help for quite awhile as it seems a little understaffed too. It's not in tip top cleanliness, but it is jam packed full of whatever your crafting pintrest-y heart desires. It's a go to for me before events, I like to add hidden touches to make things over the top and I've been known to bust out a glue gun, hack saw, or wood glue When you do locate a staff member, they're super helpful and totally know where everything is, so that's a plus. I thought I was going to have to go to the Party Store AND Michael's, but! Michael's actually had everything I needed. Now, did you know there was an app for that? Download the Michael's craft store app for serious coupons, all you do it show the coupon from the app on your phone, the check out people scan it and its discounts a go go! It must be the holiday cheer. = ) There's a craft war going on in my house so in hopes of ending one before season end, I stopped in last to pick up some necessary ammo. Despite the store being a complete mess, the many staff members were hustling around the floor trying to pick things up off the ground and clean up a bit so our carts can get through the aisle. They really need to think about investing in carts with bigger wheels so we can 4 wheel through the aisles...just a thought. ; ) I found what I was looking for but it was great that workers stopped to ask if I was finding everything ok. One even asked what I was working on and offered up some suggestions. I have been in and out of Michael's more times than I can count t and I rarely ever get that level of customer service, even if I look for it. The management here is a joke. I like Michael's, I've been coming to this location and the Oceanside onefor years for both work and for both my daughters' school projects. I stopped going to Oceanside over a year ago because that store had really gone downhill and now this one, near my house, is really taking a turn for the worse as well. I just wrote a review for the Oceanside one after going there last weekend and I had to write one for here as well. Maybe a bit more than a month ago, I was wandering the aisles looking for pieces of jewelry for my youngest to make and came upon one of the managers yelling at one of the employees. I'm all for chewing out someone that deserves it, but you don't do it in the middle of the store, take them in the back in private. I wasn't sure what the name of the woman was, only that from behind it looked like she has a mohawk, which is a bit scary from customer viewpoint, but my oldest does want a to triple pierce her ears for her 16th birthday, so I try not to be too judgemental on looks. So, I go back and try to find another manager to complain (I didn't know the woman I was going to complain about was a manager at the time) and I find this woman named Alicia in the backroom. I tell her what the problem was, how unprofessional and downright mean the other manager seemed to be, and all I get in response is the manager Alicia staring at me like a deer in the headlights! I think i eventuallyI got in response was a, "well, she's a manager, so." Aren't you a manager, too!? Can you not do anything!? Anyway, it seemed I was making poor Alicia VERY uncomfortable, so I let her slink back into the office to hide. I can understand why someone like her was promoted to manager, she obviously is not very proactive and will therefor not be a threat to whoever hired her, but it is still very disappointing. One manager who is overbearing and rude and another who might as well not even be there. Still, kudos to the other employees that actually know what is going on. I remember a Cee Cee (Ci CI?) helping me alot at the start of the year and a nice girl named Erin helping as well during the summer. I didn't see either of them this trip and I hope Erin gets to be a teacher like she wants to be. read more

:-/ Whenever I see this store I'm always curious... But when I enter, I'm assaulted by the smell.... Is it the silk flowers? the crafty items? the tacky decorative bathroom accessories? Maybe its just the whole idea of mass produced commercialized crafty shit to stick, glue, paint, or adhere? And yet where else would old ladies buy their yarn, needlepoint accessories, or plastic what not? The place has alot of things you'd never think of needing for your home, and yet look at all the ladies with shopping carts full of "stuff." 12/29/21 at 2:20 visited the store and was denied my Military Discount by the store manager. A customer at the next cashier had asked and received a military discount. This female so-called manager twice had said, they don't give Military Discount of which i told her she can keep the item and left the store of which they will never see me again at any of there stores. This manager needs some people skills training and needs to read the stores policy on Military Discounts, which clearly states it honors Military. Stood in line for a pick up for over a hour. Than to find out they did not place the photos in the frame as directed on two different occasions. Now, they stated they did not have directions to place the photos in the frame with the map which was completely false. I told them I would need to return with the photos to be placed in the frame with the map at a later time. I did not have them on the person originally. They stated they understood. Upon return with the photos two weeks later, I provided clear instructions yet again where to put the photos. They stated they understood and would note it. On pick up day, stood in the line for about a hour to find out the photos were not in the frame and a rip in the paper on the rear of the frame. The lady was kind and apologetic, but kept saying it was never noted originally. Yes, I agree, it perhaps was not written, but I verbally did give instructions. Mistakes happen, but I provided the instruction twice on two different days. Finally I returned the next day and the frame looked nice. I stated it looked nice, but I did state my frustration of needing to return. The trip takes me 45 minutes each direction. Again, they apologized, but stated there were no instructions to have the photos put in the frame originally, sigh..... Can we just have some integrity and claim responsibility, jeesh. read more

Finally get to front & realize my frame is broken & cashier recommends I get out of line and go see if there is another one. I would have bought 1 but it was BOGO.
