Never enough staff to show you where things are Often when I've found staff they tell me which aisle things are in but don't want to show us, which is annoying because sometimes they have been wrong, or something is out of stock, and and you need someone else to help you out. I am impressed by and grateful for the exceptional customer service I recently received at Michael's. I owe much gratitude to the manager Mike, in particular, who above and beyond the call of duty to make what could have been a wrong situation right. Just after Thanksgiving I ordered two custom-frames and was told they'd be ready by Dec. 18. When I went to the store at 9:30 pm on Dec. 20 to pick them up, Mike told me they weren't ready and also told me that my pick up date was simply an estimate -- and that I should expect a call when my order was ready. Unfortunately, I was leaving town for the in-laws' the next day right after work and wouldn't be able to pick up my order, even if it were ready the next day. I kept my composure with Mike, even though I communicated my frustration and disappointment. I am embarrassed to say that I wasn't able to keep it together on the way out of the store though, and said to my husband a little too loudly that the store screwed me. Fast forward to later that evening... when I was almost asleep (about 10:30), my voice mail beep went off. I listened and it was Mike telling me that my order was ready and that it could be picked up right away -- even though the store was closed. He said someone would be in the store until 11:30, and someone would be in the store again in the morning starting at 5 am. I am most grateful that Mike went that far to get my very special Christmas present in my hands on time before leaving town. I did go to the store at 6 am the next morning to pick up the gifts from the very helpful young woman there. And I will always, always, always go to Michael's first whenever I have a craft or framing need. Thank you to Mike and the rest of the staff at Michael's on Clark Street!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Michaels. Not only does it have one of the best crafting selections (no fabric) in the city, the people who work there are energetic, upbeat and entertaining! I've never walked into this store without being greeted at least 2 or 3 times, and it's one of those places where if I look like I know what I want, they don't bug me, but if I'm searching for something, they ask. I've been to this Michaels location twice. Both times, I've encountered super helpful, quick with check outs, and friendly staff. Although small, this store has a "good enough"/decent selection. There is a parking lot, however, I have not used it...I usually park on the street and pay for parking. If you're looking for something specific, I would recommend giving them a call first, since it is a little smaller than other locations that I have visited. read more

Craft stores are one of my weaknesses. It's up there with the typical Target trip resulting in damage to the pocketbook every time without fail. This Michael's trip at least had a purpose of finding some iron-on letters for my Halloween costume component. This new Michael's is pretty nice. It's bright and clean, so decent to start. I got a little confused by the layout since it didn't seem laid out quite like the others I've visited. It took asking the staff to find the iron-on letters. Luckily, I found plenty in stock to complete my Halloween costume in time for tomorrow's festivities. I also did major damage to my pocketbook by stocking up projects like doilies, bachelorette party stuff for engaged brides to be, Christmas ornaments and decorations. It was an extremely successful shopping trip by this crafter's standards. This Michael's loses the all important last star because of the long, waiting line at noon. By the lunch hour, the line stretched 5-6 people deep even with three cashiers manning the front. They definitely need to be more prepared for staff on the weekend or especially during holiday time. Otherwise, I'm happy that there's a Michael's a little closer to home. read more

The staff is friendly...when you find one, I've been here about 5-6 times and I've only ever found one on the floor twice (one of which was technically working the framing department) They were not the knowledgable about where the items were that I was looking for. The lines are also always at least 7 deep, and if it's before a holiday (The week before last Christmas and the week before this Halloween) you can count on quite a line. I was just in there and couldn't find help to locate gift bags for Wine, so I went upstairs to Marshall's, were I was in and out in 5 minutes. In a nutshell, great selection of stuff at decent prices but I give them 2 stars because THE LINES ARE ALWAYS INSANELY LONG and there's never enough people ringing. I swear, every single time I come here, no matter what day or time, the line is about 7-10 people deep and there are only 1 or 2 people ringing. I came here on a recent Sunday to buy a picture frame, and as I approached the line of 10 or so people, I just walked out. I saw a ton of salespeople walking around the store and wondered why there weren't up at the cash registers taking care of people who actually want to spend money in the store. While I do not shop at Michael's often, I surely am satisfied whenever I do. I have had some large prints framed here and still get compliments on them 10 years after - great quality custom frames indeed. They have a WIDE variety of DIY items from kid's creativity kits to wedding invitations to every possible type of bead one might need... Go crazy, if you wish! I am a fan of their garden section - cute items and always great finds on sale. The store at this particular location is quite large, clean, and well organized. Friendly staff at the check out as well, even though I must admit that I am not one of those people is looking to meet their new BFF while shopping. read more

This Michaels is just alright...it's my local store and I appreciate the convenience of proximity but...eh. I can't tell if I come to this Michaels too often, if it's super popular, or if they are last on the list of Michael stores when it comes to getting merchandise shipped because it seems like it takes forever for some items to be restocked. I'll be Instagram lurking (yes, that's the level of my craftiness, don't judge), and I'll see displays at other Michaels with these new products that I want and then I'll go to this location and nothing. Nada. Nope. Nuh-unh. Not a wasted trip, because hey, DSW is down the escalator, but still! No comment on the customer service. I can't complain about never being helped because I never really ask for help either. They all seem very nice at the register though. Huge fan of this store. It's bright. It's big. The aisles are manageable for 2 people passing through them with their carts. They are constantly sending me coupons for 1/2 off one item. I like coupons like that. You can also sign up for the email list and they send you even more coupons. It's nice that in the city, you can go to a chain like Michaels, where you expect prices not to be sky-rocketed as some of the smaller arts and crafts store. I am excited to have a Michael's in the neighborhood as it is a particularly handy store to have as a teacher. I went in when I needed a particular item (a circular cookie cutter) very quickly. The store was clean, well organized and well staffed. I was offered help and taken right to where the product I needed was. Checkout was very quick. Love this place! I'm definitely biased because I'm a third grade teacher and therefore it feels like I live here sometimes. The new Michaels is very organized, has everything I need for a craft project, is spacious, and they always offer so many coupons that I never pay full price for most things. The staff has been VERY helpful. I've called right before they close to find fabric markers and they've made all the effort to get me what I need even if it means looking through the whole store and the back to find nine packs of markers. They held them at the counter until I arrived 5 minutes before they closed. When I arrived, they were so friendly and not bothered at all by the hassle of my request. I'm actually going there tomorrow to buy some Mod Podge. Can't wait! read more

Love the size of this Michaels (even though most Michaels are huge to begin with) and love the location. It's very convenient to where I live. Everytime I come in, I find what im looking for. yesterday I came in and wasn't sure where to find something. I asked a worker and he actually stopped what he was doing to walk me to where he thought they were. When he realized they weren't in that specific aisle, he asked his co-worker and he walked me all the way to the back of the store making sure I found it fine. Awesome!! This is a pretty decent craft store with a great location. There's a wide array of just about any craft you could want to do and the sales can be really good (I snapped up a bunch of 75% off canvases right around Christmas - too good to resist). The employees are generally helpful (if you can find them in the enormous store). My biggest gripe is that I wish they had fabric/a better sewing section besides just like velcro and elastic, but then I would probably be even more broke than I already am. read more

As someone who used to frequent this location 2-3 times a week (I had scrapbook supply hoarding issue) I loved that: 1.Sometimes they had amazing clearance 2.They accept Joann Fabrics Coupons 3.The right associate let you stack coupons 4.They accept mobile coupons 5. They are sandwiched between DSW and Marshalls!!! 6. Their amazing return policy I did not enjoy: 1.The fact that the new merchandise in the scrapbooking dept came in so rarely (probably once in 2 months, which for me is SLOOOW) 2.The fact that someone had to open the bathroom door for you, and they are never to be found 3.The price checker was frequently broken 4.Not all associates were on the same page about coupon policies. 5. michaels.com is not an online shopping destination like joann.com 6. this location had ZERO cell phone reception for AT&T All in all I liked it, I know they have a crop night but I am too scared to attend. read more

I was so excited when this place opened because I would have to rent an i-go just to get true crafting supplies in the city. it's fabulous for basic crafting: jewelry supplies, wood working supplies, clay section, knitting, floral, framing, art supplies, ribbon, baking/decorating supplies, kids' supplies and little take it or leave it stuff. The staff is okay and the place does the trick for some basic crafting needs but other than that it's messy and not well organized. The prices are okay. The main problem I have with this location is that there is NO FABRIC section. I guess they didn't have any room but it is a real letdown. read more

The store seems under staffed with pretty much everyone on register, which isn't so great when you're in need of help to find things. This review is for the custom framing department. I went in on 12/18 with an e-mail coupon for free expedited service through 12/18 to arrive by Christmas Eve. The person said there was no such coupon and said, and I quote, "Show me the coupon so I can tell you how you are reading it wrong." So when I pulled it up on my phone he said that he couldn't honor it. That is was too late. When I pushed back, he called one manager and then another and 30 minutes later they finally agreed to do it. Then I learn that a simple 12 x 18 gold frame would be $170 (AFTER the 55% sale discount). And that was just for the frame and not mat. So I bought a $40 frame off the shelf, asked for a mat to be cut, paper put on the back, and for a pocket for the artist bio. The labor and material cost was $65 (plus the $40 frame). Again - RIDICULOUS! When I go in to pick it up I find that there is no pocket and no artist bio. The store had LOST the artist bio for an original print that I bought at a random store in a Hawaii. The guy at the counter said that he had nothing to do with it and that he would have the guy that took my order call me on Monday the 26th. Guess what? He never did. All around - NICE JOB Michaels! I would never entrust a piece of artwork to you again -- indefensible prices, deplorable customer service, and complete lack of respect for the artwork. read more

I had a lovely experience at this location! I quickly found what I needed, and for such a great price. Also, added bonus, the store smelled great! The best part of my experience was the customer service. I checked out with Sean (Shawn?) - it was his first day on the job. He was incredibly kind and made me feel comfortable and taken care of! He even helped me use my phone to get all the discounts I deserved from the mobile Michaels site. His coworker/manager Genie was also really enjoyable to chat with. They made customers feel welcome and were very friendly! I'd definitely go back here for all my crafting needs! read more

I've been visiting regularly since this location opened and continue to be amazed by their lack of attention to detail. First of all, if you're doing something besides scrap-booking this isn't the store for you. Anything involving needlework is poorly served by this store, despite even their small section of it. They are often out of thread and yarn, and they don't even carry cross-stitch, though they had a sign saying they did up until we tried looking for them. It also took us six employees to finally find someone who knew the answer to the question. Until they learn about their own products and how to keep them in stock you're better off going elsewhere. read more

My favorite store, I seriously walk down through each and every aisle there. Being a stay at home mom brings out the creative side in me and I love the whole arts and crafts idea. I actually went there for at least HALF of my daughters birthday decor. Including her invitatons. All hand made. The best part Invitatons that they always have great sales or coupons that u can pull right up on your phone for them to scan. This store is fun, I walk in for 1 thing and end up with 10. Being creative never felt so good, but being broke because of it never hurt so bad lol. read more

I have encountered staff that left me high and dry in an effort to locate something, to being looked directly in the eye and watch associate roll her eyes at me and say did you look for it? Then I encountered the Manager who was so helpful I forgot about the last two encounters. The last visit I again encountered the eye roller, this time she barked at me " I am on the phone" no visible phone no visible walkie talkie system. Perhaps she was assisting a customer on hold. She could have said that, and asked me to wait. Instead she walked away, frustrated I looked for another associate, none found I left with no purchase. read more

i have to rate this michael's a-ok because the it was big and that was promising. but they didn't have what i needed. i was in search of a specific yarn i had gotten at another michael's and they didn't have wide enough of a selection to have it. that being said, the service was above and beyond. the people who were working there were so helpful and friendly. if i ever needed something else, i'd would come here over the one on canal, even though that one is a little more convenient. read more
