So really, when you're going to an art store there's not many places to go to. You have Michael's, Hobby Lobby and Asel Art Supply. We have the first two in Denton. I'm not a huge fan of Hobby Lobby for personal reasons, but they do have a much larger fine art department than Michael's. Michael's is much bigger if you're one of those crafty types or into scrapbooking. They have a huge area and lots of paper of almost every type. The prices aren't too bad either and every time I've been there, I'm in and out pretty quick. The staff is helpful and points you in the right direction. Being that in my past, I once worked at an art supply store, I'm sure they know where everything is. It's a nice place and when I need craft items for my daughter, this is always a great place to go. I love crafts, but I do not really love this Michaels. Things seem hard to find, and staff is usually hard to find to ask for help. Everything seems a little pricy unless you have a coupon or there is a sale. It seems like every time I want to use a coupon on something it is already on sale and they won't take the coupon though. They do have a good selection of things that you can't find elsewhere. Lots of good science kits for kids. read more

Indifferent employees. One register open on a Saturday. After walking the whole store, I found two employees talking to one another and asked for help finding an item. The pouted to the other side of the store and said I'd find it "over there". After waiting for almost 10 minutes to check out, the checker asked how my visit was. When I replied that it was impossible to get help in the store, she said "yes". I'll drive two blocks down the road to Hobby Lobby from now on. read more

Do not get your custom framing done here. I got 2 large pieces framed for a photography show and they came back scuffed up and scratched all over the photos and the plexiglass. And I know for a fact my photos weren't scratched and scuffed when I took them in. Get your framing done at HMS instead, over by the UNT art building on Mulberry. They will do a better job for less money. The knitting section is pretty dismal too. The yarn selection is all cheap rubbish and the selection of needles is narrow. They don't carry smaller sizes of needles and very few sizes of circulars. read more

I love Michaels stores and shop at them several times a year. This was my first visit to this Michaels, and I was disappointed. My husband and I purchased two picture frames. Michaels was running a Buy-One-Get-One-Free deal. Signs were posted all over the frame aisles advertising the deal. When we went to check out, the registers and credit card machines had gone haywire. The sales clerk told us they couldn't take any returns, in order to use a credit card, we'd have to run it as debit card for it to go through and additionally, she has to call a manager to see if the frames we were buying were a part of the sale. After about ten minutes of waiting, the two we bought were some of the few that weren't included in the sale. We bought them anyway but their signs were not clear at all. The check out area was pretty hectic. Well most likely try a different location next time. read more

I usually love going to michaels but this location was very disappointing. I asked a employee for help on an item I was looking for and she ignored me I then asked her again and she continued to ignore me when I asked the third time she turned around and said "I don't know" she was very rude and had such an attitude about it. I really enjoy arts & crafts and I usually enjoy going into Michaels to see what they have. Their stock is usually good with a variety of item and ideas and they offer great coupons online. Now for the part I don't like...I wanted a particular item for a 60% off one day coupon I found, but the item I wanted was not offered online, so I called the store to see if they had it in stock. They didn't, and when I asked if they could order it they told me no. The lady I spoke with said all of their ordering was done automatically by computer and there was nothing she could do for me. She did suggest I try another store in the DFW area since they don't all carry the same items. (Most stores will see if they can get the item from another store for you. She didn't offer.) Not helpful!!! read more
