This one experience has ruined me, I won't ever step foot in a Michaels store. The customer service is not what it used to be. The line issue where they have one line for all cashiers that I was not aware of. I was getting ready to check out, there was no line, no signs, so I went to a cashier and waited come to find they would not check me out since I was not in the 1 line. Customer service wise.. it's really hard to find someone on the sales floor to answer questions they are usually at the cash register. If you call into the store it's not much help as well. Better to just go in yourself and try and find what your looking for. Only Micheals in our area... if I can't find what I need here. Hobby Lobby will usually have it. Security is very low in this store. A little while ago the was a suspicious man walking out of the store as I was driving by. He was walking on the sidewalk looking both ways his eyes where very shifty. They have some interesting things. But I will never be comming back. Never. Grumpy staff when asked a simple question. Cashier lady with blonde hair was really rude to someone who was first to be there and was asked to go back and wait behind the line that had built up due to poor service. Happened today around 3pm. I don't feel valued. You'd think something as simple as putting all of a customer's purchases in a bag would be possible. But alas, that wasn't the case for me. But I get it, accidents happen. What warned the one star was the failure of the store to actually make it right. After getting home and discovering the error, I contacted the store and sure enough, they'd recognized their blunder and set them aside (about $3.50 in paint) and invited me to drive over and get them. Now, this isn't my regular store. In fact, it would cost me more than that in gas to go and pick them up. So, being that it was their mistake, I suggested that they mail them to me. Scott, the manager, said he couldn't do that. And he couldn't issue me a refund over the phone. But my hopes were raised when Scott vowed to look into how he could fix their mistake and call me back. I took it to mean that customer service was indeed a priority. And I'm waiting...waiting...waiting...and now I'm beginning to feel like a desperate teenager waiting for the girl I met at a sock hop to call me because, you know, she said she would. But I need to realize that, like in my pimple-faced retro emotion, this may have just been a way to leave me dangling. I get it, it's a $3.50 purchase. Not big. But I'm a customer and service to me should be the highest priority, at least if this is a business that wants it's valued customers to come back. I recently shopped at the Elk Grove Michael's store on Laguna and purchased a Cricut Explore 3 machine. Once I got home I went on to Amazon to look for accessories for our new machine and noticed that the Explore 3 machine was cheaper and so I went in to Michaels to get it priced matched. I was politely informed that they do not price match Amazon Prime prices due to Prime being a paid membership. The supervisor/manager Michele was called up and said she was unsure of the exact policy on price matching Amazon, but in the interest of customer service she was going to honor the Amazon Prime price match. I feel she showed great customer service and I took this as a teaching moment. Michele also said she would contact her manager to get clarification as well. I do not expect the same outcome going forward and your mileage may vary with Michaels price match on Amazon Prime. I get artsy and crafty at random times of the year. I will have long dry spells, then suddenly I get creatively inspired! This Michaels is my local store that seems to carry a little bit of everything to help me out with ideas on how to get it done. I've often bought odd sized frames here that I couldn't find at other stores. They even have a custom framing section with every color, size and shape imaginable. Now I've had a few disappointments here when I would shop for certain hard to find items only to find that they stopped carrying them. Such as long, tiny wooden dowels that were ~10" long and 3/32" in diameter. I would have to get them from time to time to repair my "antique" bamboo birdcage. I use to think, no problem, I'll stop at Michaels to buy a pack. Now, no one even knows what I'm talking about and show me alternatives that would never work. So, I guess I'm probably the only one left in the world that would need such an item. Not worth keeping in stock anymore I presume. (Yes, I've searched on line with no luck). But other than that, you'll find candle making, soap making, painting supplies, wood working, artificial flower arrangements, jewelry creations, candy & cake decorating, wedding stuff, crocheting & knitting, and lots of household & seasonal decorations. You can design, cut, glue, or stitch anything your imagination can come up with. They even offer a variety of classes. You just never know, a famous masterpiece may have originated at Michaels! read more

I wasn't going to write a review for Michaels but today's experience had me all kinds of irritated. Their customer service sucks ass! It really does. There aren't many other craft supply stores nearby so I shop here. I could go to Joann's but I'm too lazy to drive. I came here today to find a cute basket for a baby shower gift. When I walked to the registers, nobody was there. I made a quick 360 and didn't see any employees. Umm...where is everybody? I finally spotted someone in the floral department and I quickly realized she was the person assigned to the register. But apparently she got pulled away because another customer was asking her something regarding the flowers. I get it she's doing her job BUT!!! there was already a floral person working in the floral department. Rather than directing the customer to the appropriate associate she had myself and now 2 other customers standing in front of an employee-less register. Rolling eyes were being exchanged by all. Okay, so they hire really young sales associates. But that doesn't excuse their lack of customer service training. You'd be lucky to be greeted or smiled at by the employees. It's like they don't want to be bothered. The managers really need to whip this store into shape. read more

This place suckkssss and has the worst customer service. I bought something here yesterday, but like an idiot, threw out my receipt after I got home since it was a gift and I didn't think I would need it. It turned out that the person I got it for already had something like it so I brought it back to the store to return. I knew I was only going to get store credit, but i figured it was better than nothing. Even though the back of their receipts say that you CAN return things without the receipt they would not let me do it. THey brought out this fancy scanner thing and said that the item had not been sold from their store from 30 days ago. I don't know if they were lying or what but I JUST bought the item from that store yesterday. They have video cameras all over the store, why don't you pull up a damn video of me buying the item at the register. They told me to come back in the morning when a manager would be there, because only a manager would be able to approve the return. Basically a huge inconvenience and hassel. read more

I used to like coming to this store when JoAnn's didn't have what I was looking for. But I guess their shrinkage is through the roof even though they appear to be very overstaffed. Unlike most men, I carry a bag. I am an adult, but here I guess men of any age are not allowed to have them and must leave them at the front. I had a lady single me out of my group of friends and they all had bags as well and told just me that I had to leave my bag at the front. Just like they didn't trust me to walk around their store with my bag, I didn't trust them to leave my bag with them. So when I inquired as to why I had to the lady said for security reasons. Yet I was the only one that had to. So I'm quite torn on if this was a sexist or racist issue. I do not like to be treated like a criminal when I'm out shopping so I'm rating this experience one star. read more

I can only speak for the crosstitch supplies, since that's what I came in looking for but really... Do not come here for crosstitch supplies. It was annoying but understandable when they cut the amount of space down in the aisles, but the disorganization of the DMC threads was really frustrating. A little disorganization is understandable, there are a lot of colors, it's at the end of the day, etc, but this wasn't even close and looked like it hadn't been organized in a very long time. Which, when you're looking for multiple threads is annoying. What's even more annoying is when you ask the cashier and they explain that other people mess up the threads so it's not their responsibility to organize them. In the grand scheme of priorities, I get it, DMC threads are $0.35 each and not a big priority in the store money-wise, but I won't be coming back here again. Patterns require certain threads, and not being able to find them is a little annoying, but it becomes even more so with unhelpful staff and a horribly disorganized area. read more

I always come in here for all my crafting and project supplies. I love their app, and they're constantly giving out coupons that help you out! I am a crafter and committed cosplayer (I devote a lot of time and attention to detail to my costuming). Most of my highly detailed costumes were brought about with simple supplies I was able to get here! Today (5/22/17) I had to return some craft foam painting primer because the paint warped my foam really badly and I no longer had any use for it. The sales woman who helped me with my return completely understood, and even though I had opened and used some of the product, she returned it for me hassle free (I rarely, rarely return things! I used to rely on Michael's for my craft needs but now I've switched over to Hobby Lobby. Michael's carries a lot of the same items as Hobby Lobby but I feel this location is cramped and overwhelming. It's too much in a small spot. I came here recently for bridal shower stuff and I was actually disappointed. Their stuff was kind of cheap looking and not what I needed. This location does not have a lot of seasonal stuff but more crafty stuff. If I wanted to start scrapbooking, I could come here and probably find what I need. But since I'm not a crafty person, I'm not a big fan. I've never had a problem with the staff. They've all been friendly whenever I've been there. read more

I can't even begin to find words to express what a dump this store is. First off, if you have even a touch of claustrophobia, forget it. The aisles are so compressed and close together that you don't have room to take a deep breath, let alone the ominous darkness that such compression incites. Not only is everything jammed together like sardines, but it looks like a dollar store after a hurricane. None of the aisle tags mean anything, and things are jumbled together and in utter disarray. Most of the shelves look as though they have never been dusted, and there were shelves full of damaged merchandise, mixed in with fresh stuff like it was no big deal. Additionally, I couldn't find a single staff member on the floor to help me locate anything (which was really essential since none of the aisle directory markers were accurate), and the single checker couldn't have been less interested in his job. The sprinkles on the top of the cupcake was, after putting my merchandise that I managed to locate down and heading out in disgust, was the display of lindt chocolates at the checkout, all of which were melted, or had been squished, and just left out. So I'm a crafty person. Too bad this place is so far away from where I live, but luckily I'll come here because they are well stocked. They have everything I need. When one Michaels doesn't have it I can count on this one. Also, I really like their service here. One of the ladies saw me walking around and just asked if I needed anything. Then she assisted me and even scanned the items to see if they had anymore. Man, that's great service! I love this one. It's small, but it has everything you need. The employees were rude. When my husband spoke to our cashier she replied with rude comments that were filled with attitude. Her and another female employee were talking rudely about other customers right in front of us. Said "they cant read" about another customer who was late picking up their curbside order. Sorry but in all the many years I have worked in customer service I understand how customers can frustrate you, but how unprofessional are you to talk crap about customers in front of other customers. I want to give this horrible Michaels a 0 but I can't. I bought items labeled mismatch buy one get one free and under this label were the frames I was purchasing but when i checked out apparently it was not part of the sale. Unfortunately I realized this after I paid and said something about it after. In trying to fix this mistake by replacing it with items that are part of the sale, it made it worse. Long story short, here is some advice: 1. Make clear what's on sale; IE Organize & Label yo items correctly. I had to ask a few times how much an item cost and even the sales associate couldn't figure it out just by looking at the description which item was which, they had to scan it. 2. Make clear to the customer what the return value and policy is 3. Make sure you're customer is happy Can you manage that? read more

I love coming to Michaels!! Being crafty I can go nuts in a place like this!! :P I have never had a terrible experience coming here. I have shopped Joanns and Hobby Lobby when they opened but they have terrible customer service!!! I never can get genuine help they just guess and point to where it MIGHT be!!!! Most of the times the girls at Michaels show me where it is but I know this location gets busy so sometimes I just let them go on to helping others since I do have a good sense of direction of the place now. The lady cashiers are so friendly and nice they always help me out when my coupon doesn't load. I always want to take a class here but I just don't have the time right now but it's in my plan to learn how to knit and decorate some cakes before this year is over. This location I will say is smaller then other Michaels I have been too so I do hope they have plans to expand it one day but for now it will do just fine. :) read more

first timer at this location and I was not impressed. Usually Michael's is large, spacious, organized and seems so much brighter. Walking into this location was like going to forever 21. The aisles seemed all compressed with barely any room to walk in between. I think they tried to fit too much merchandise into a tiny store. I came in looking for jewelry boxes and craft pillow boxes. They are usually in the gift wrapping, or wedding aisle. Nope! it was on the floor shelf of the beading section and it was a mess! I don't know how people shop here! I passed by so many employees that just gave me "the look," as if I wasn't welcomed. It looked liked this store hasn't been dusted since it was open, or maybe the sky scrapping aisles were blocking all light but this place just seemed gloomy. The upside to Michael's is the large wedding section. Some of the items are cheaper than Joann's by a dollar. Don't forget to look up coupons if you have a mobile smartphone. This is my second time at this location and both experiences have been awful! The management is awful and rude. Cashiers look miserable (I don't blame them). I love michaels, but this location needs work. I had to go up and down the store to find someone and when I finally did... it was a manager... and greets me with "what do you want?".. later, as me and my kids were looking at a shelf of paint... she comes and takes some random items from the shelf and says "are you going to buy these?"... those items were already there... random go backs that had not been picked up by anyone because there was like 2 employees in the entire store. One of the two craft store in the Sacramento area. Michaels usually have pretty good deals and if the item I want is regular price. I can use a coupon, usually 40% off. Michael now have an iPhone app, so the coupons are on there. No need to print them out or search my emails. You should them your phone and they can scan it. The staff are friendly, but the store is usually crowded. It's hard to find someone to help you because most the staff is at the register. Long lines too. The shelves aren't stocked up. If they run out of something, they usually are out and there is nothing in the back. So no need to hunt someone down to ask. read more

This Michael's definitely has the widest variety of items and knick knacks than other ones that I've been too. However, the place just seems way too cluttered and disorganized.Stickers and embellisments never seem to be on the right hook and I'm always scrambling around trying to find the right price tags. Also, they seem to run out of stuff a lot and never seem to restock (I'm not sure if that's out of lack of attention to detail or if they are just completely out). What saves this place (and all other Michael's) are their coupons. You usually always get one after your purchase. Also, if you download the app there are a lot of good coupons on there too (the occasional 40% or 50% off one item. But they also have 20-50% off entire purchases of a particular brand). Also, when I'm here it's like being at a Walmart. Four registers, long lines, and only one cashier working. Most often than not, someone else is behind or near the counters but they don't bother to jump on a register to help control the line. Very frustrating. read more

Been shopping here for several years now. More recently though. Been feeling crafty ;) They got a good selection for yarn..love red heart soft for a k2p2 stitch. Alright selection on clay, I believe jo-ann's had more variety of colors for fimo clay. Most of the ribbons was out of stock :( maybe its because I came around valentine's day? I always remember a man saying 'Hi Ladies, How you doing?' everytime I enter the store. I felt welcomed until he said that and walked away right away. Don't worry it wasn't a random creeper. Im pretty sure he was a worker there. I love their 40% off coupons. I wouldn't normally buy most of the stuff there if they were regular prices. It's that asian blood running through my veins lol. I'd not been here before until recently when I was in need of some sewing supplies and couldn't find what I wanted at the usual places I shop. At first I was underwhelmed by the lack of service, and overwhelmed by how crowded and busy the place was. It took me a bit of effort to find someone to ask where I needed to go, and they gave me an aisle number but no other direction or assistance. Finding what I wanted was not easy amidst so very many items, but I did eventually get all the things I wanted. There was a flyer that came in the newspaper with a coupon that reduced the price on my most expensive item and I was glad for that. I think if I were to come again not on the weekend but on a less busy week day and when I had more time to browse, I would probably find this a very fun place to get decorative items as well as inspiration and materials for many different craft projects. read more

Michael's is Michael's, I guess, but this location feels cramped and poorly stocked compared to other Michael's stores in the area. I felt like I was going to bump my cart into another cart in pretty much every aisle. I got what I needed, but not without getting a headache for the shopping experience. Oh well, it's close to home, and their coupons are really useful for getting a good deal on whatever you need to indulge your crafty impulses. Customer Service? This store has great items for all sorts of crafts and creation, however, the time taken for me to find what I needed was unnecessary. Most of their items near the front of the store were very disorganized and cluttered, making it very difficult to find items. For example, I was searching for jewelry elastic bands, and even though there was a full section for such items, I could not locate the products I needed. I decided to look for an attendant to help me, however there was absolutely no one to go to except for the cashiers near the entrance of the store. It took about 10 minutes to get their attention, and yet they seemed very unhappy to be pulled away from their station. Disappointed and hoping my next visit will be better. read more

I used to love Michaels, but this store is killing my feelings toward the whole chain. I bought a bunch of frames and mattes, all with matching measurements, only to find out after I'd opened a matte that they were too big for the frames. I took all the mattes back to return, and they would not take the one I'd opened, despite the fact that it still had the original packaging with it. Okay, I guess I can understand that, but then the associate the cashier asked for help (not even a manager!) tried to give me some BS excuse as to why it was a problem; that really irked me. I didn't fight the issue, and returned what I could and left, but this is not my first time having customer service issues at this Michaels; I'm thinking I'll go to JoAnns, or various other stores, now. read more

My wonderful sweet fiancé realized an item wasn't going to work for a craft we are making. As we were walking back into the store he dropped it and the glass shattered all over. Not only did two associates come over right away to clean it (we tried to help) but they also returned it for us. To me that is customer service all the way because we were expecting to just clean it be embarrassed and be on our way with the wrong broken product :( this was not the case! The reason why I shop at this store is because of the coupons they offer online. I love their 40% & 50% coupons. However, everytime when I tried to use my coupon that I printed out from online, this one particular cashier WILL ALWAYS have some lame excuses to give me that prevents me from getting my damn discount! It's either I'm not an executive member or I have to print the coupon out from the actual Michael's website other than from another coupon website. I swear, I always get rung up by her and she always have something to say right when I pulled a coupon out from my purse. I stopped shopping at this Michaels location since I always encounter the same issue with the same sales associate. read more

I actually prefer Jo-ann's over Michaels and I will tell you why. Their customer service completely and totally blows major butt. I have never gotten more than a hi in a low barely audible tone from the cashier when I had to wait about 10 minutes in line for 2 items. While on the floor, I got nothing but nasty looks as I walked down an aisle that I needed to go down to get to an item that I was looking for and I had to ask the employee to move out of my way since she was taking up most of the space in the aisle since she had a huge ladder behind her that was open and no one was obviously using at the moment. And as I was squeezing by her to the other side of the aisle, I heard her say something under her breath that was completely inaudible, but with the tone that it came out, I could tell that it was something totally and completely uncalled for. read more
