Hobby Quest - Board game called (ticket to ride) - Hobby Shops Near Me - Elk Grove, California

We stopped in while doing some holiday shopping. We've gotten into D&D and have been encouraging friends to start playing too, so it's fun to come into shops like this. The parking lot is pretty small, but we found a spot easily. When you walk in there's a lot to look at. Near the door there is a wall of board games as well as some plush items. We had so much fun looking at the dice at the counter, they have a great selection including some metal dice and I loved a pair the was pearlescent. The prices range widely but they're all really cool. They also carry items from local makers like jewelry, make up, potion bottles, fidgets, and other little cute items. I saw a bunch of 3D printed items too. The second glass case has cards on display for collectors. I didn't look at them too closely but I saw a lot of holographic which is always cool. On the other side of the store is an area with a bunch of tables where people were having fun playing games together. That area takes up a little under half of the store. It seemed like a fun spot to come with friends. The staff members were really friendly and helpful as well. It was fun learning about the store and their offerings and I'm sure we'll be back soon. read more

I went in hoping to buy some games for table top games. The ones I wanted were not available so I tried to ask for suggestions/ options. However the employee cut me off mid question and left to greet another customer they already knew. Maybe if they know you or you or you just want to pick up something off the shelf it would be an okay store. First time there, didn't know a soul. The staff helped set me up with a play group to get my feet wet and get used to the game again. Clean shop and a decent selection. I specifically enjoyed looking at all of the items crafted by local artisans! The very obvious queer acceptance lovingly understated among the merch and clientele was also very much appreciated --- especially in this hobby arena, it's hit or miss if a particular shop is a safe place or not, so these small signs are huge for making people feel safe before we even interact with a single individual. I was mostly there to play so I didn't really price check much, so I can't speak to that yet (may edit and add later when I revisit), but for now -- great shop, friendly staff, clean play spaces, everything one could want in a friendly little hobby shop. I lost my game, but had a lot of fun and may have even made a few new friends. read more

First time here. Staff seems friendly, but my experience was not great. I I came to participate in an MTG event. I called the previous day to check whether I needed to sign up in advance or if I could walk in without concern of running out of spots in the event. I was told (after the guy on the phone checked with another employee) that I should be fine walking in. This was incorrect. I arrived 25 minutes before the scheduled event time, only to be told it was full up since 30 minutes ago. I did the responsible thing of calling ahead and asking about signing up, only to be punished by employees that didn't know what they were talking about. Very disappointing, and I could only imagine this same situation happening to someone who drove further than I did. read more

Good selection and variety of games. They cater to playing just about everything, but they usually have multiple events going on and staff can get stretched thin. At that point it mostly feels like they're babysitting you and waiting for event to end, and not engaging with the actual event patrons. Everything feels very rushed here from my experiences playing. Their prices have gone up recently, and that also takes away from the experience. It seems like sometimes there's not enough prize support, and that makes one feel extra negative given the pricing increases. Unfortunately, some other local stores closed so there aren't very many places to go to now. I wouldn't mind paying more if they improved the customer experience, and either had more staff or staggered events, and more prize support so it's a more premium experience that matches the pricing increases. read more

I dragged almost all of my friends here to show them the store. They have so much to offer here, even nerdy accessories like 3D printed items. I come here to buy dices and magic cards. The Magic binders are super fun to look through and my wallet does not hurt after leaving the store. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I am glad their business has a steady flow of customers and their event nights always fill up the parking lot. I really hope this place will stay around for a long time. read more

So my son who is 8 just mustered up the confidence to finally play Pokemon. We went in to the store at 2 ish pm and were told that they wouldn't even accept payment until after 5 pm. So I drove home. Waited until 5 pm to return so he could play for his 1st time and got approached by someone when we were in line that informed us there was 9 people on the waiting list. Everyone had already paid. Sorry... unprofessional to say the least. The guy behind the counter took my number for the owner to call me. My son is crushed. This is the 2nd bad experience I've had at this shop. If I was told to stay I would have gladly waited hours with him in the parking lot... instead we were sent away to find out that the game got started without us. The guy behind the counter told me that he would give 2 packs to help. (Which was nice) but it doesn't remove the feeling of not being included. I don't know if we will return here. I come here regularly for my MTG needs, I like that their mtg singles are sorted by sets which makes it easy to find what you're looking for. Their staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They have a large selection of various trading card games and table top board games. They also have a lot of cool goods made by local artists! read more

Went in for Pokemon Funko Pop and scored 2 of them. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. A Pokemon knowlegedgable staff as well. I was able to get recomemdtions on board games based on my daughters interest. Lots of cool games here. I will be coming back. This is a must hobby & game store to check out. read more

I went in twice for Christmas presents and each time my questions were met with honest answers and options. Very clean and organized store. If you are into RPG this is the store for you. They have introductory RPG and accessories. Very knowledgeable staff. They also carry a small assortment of other board games and funko pop. Their main focus though is D&D. read more

My daughter recently became obsessed with Pokémon and I was looking for a locally owned business where I could buy cards. I decided to check out hobby quest and learned they also had party rooms which was perfect since my daughter's birthday was coming up. I immediately reserved the room and it was only $30 for half the day!!! Just got home from the party and I can't even begin to tell you what an incredible experience it was. They offered to help unload my car, offered to help with room set up, and were available for anything I needed. At one point I was filling balloons with helium and one floated to the ceiling. They immediately grabbed a ladder to retrieve the balloon for me without question. The customer service is unlike anything I've ever seen before. This place is phenomenal and I highly recommend it for your hobby shopping needs (board games, cards, collectibles, funko pops and more) as well as party room rental. read more

It was free RPG day so naturally we looked for participating retailers and found a few. Some of the ones closer to us were participating, but we knew from experience how inaccessible those shops were for me being nonambulatory and sometimes frankly creepy. From the photos online, Hobby Quest seemed like a better bet and we were not disappointed! The shop is clean, spacious, and organized. The prices are similar to online while still supporting brick-and-mortar which is amazing. I had no trouble moving within the space in spite of bringing my large scooter. It is very wheelchair accessible (although an employee did kindly let me know that unfortunately their bathrooms are not). The employees were friendly and neither ignored or hounded us. The space was very welcoming and decked out with lots of nods to it being Pride month along with other signs of LGBTQ+ support. As a disabled queer female identified person I don't think I've ever felt so seen/safe in a game shop space (and I have been in tabletop culture for 30 or so years). Well done!
