If you value your time and money, think twice before coming here to sell. In the past I've sold at the Folsom location, where I've had good experiences, but decided to try the Elk Grove location today and had a terrible experience. I called ahead to make sure they were actively buying and to gauge interest before taking the time to load everything up and make the drive over. The employee assured me I would not have any issues and to just come on by. Upon arrival the first employee was friendly, polite, and helpful. I explained that I was there to sell and had also brought in several LEGO collectors items that I planned to include as part of the deal at no extra cost, as a show of good faith. I had brought in roughly a dozen sets worth several hundred dollars to sell so it took around 20 minutes to perform the appraisal, but once done he gave me a price and explained the evaluation of each set. Whenever I sell at a store I expect to sell for much less than I do when I sell direct to consumer myself, but I'm willing to make that trade-off for the convenience of dealing in person and in bulk; however, the prices I was offered here ranged from low to outright laughable (up to 60% less than historical sales values online). While the prices were bad I was still willing to make a sale in order to save myself time. I asked for additional details about their evaluations, which the employee happily provided, and told them I wanted to take a few minutes to review the offer and perform due diligence before deciding how I wanted to proceed. It was at this point that things went from bad to worse. As I was reviewing the numbers, another employee came out from the back and immediately started making comments (ostensibly to his coworker, but very much audible to me) about how the first employee had offered too much on set X, that set Y wouldn't sell for very much, that they had too many of set Z, etc. After a minute or two of that, the first employee went on break. The second employee then proceeded to start asking me questions that made me feel pressured, like if I was ready or what I was looking up. I started to feel uncomfortable and asked if I was holding him up or anything, as he seemed annoyed, but he reassured me that they were open for several more hours and that I could take my time. I went back to looking up information online and a moment later the second employee said that he was rescinding the offer and that they were no longer interested in buying anything. This totally took me by surprise, as at this point I had not even made a single comment about their offer or attempted to negotiate -- I had just been asking questions and looking up information. It was abundantly clear to me that the employee was attempting to pressure me into accepting a bad deal, so I knew I should cut my losses and leave. Out of curiosity I asked why they had changed their mind. The employee said that they had a warehouse full of such sets and that they didn't need more. If that was the case, they could have told me so on the phone when I initially called to find out as much. He then made one more offer (for $100 less than the already bad initial offer), which I declined and left. The whole experience felt like a bait-and-switch -- get you in the store, then pressure you into accepting a lowball offer. I'd recommend the Folsom location or perhaps the new Bricks and Minifigs instead if you're looking to sell. read more

If you're looking for a specific piece, hosting a get-together where kids or adults will build with Legos or just want to collect them, this store is the perfect place! For me I like building Lego sets to decorate my home and sometimes use pieces to make stuff like a box organizer for my trading cards. Staff is nice and professional. We went in the first time while waiting for our food takeout. I used to be a Lego fans and spend every weekend in a Lego store because I live like 5 minutes away from it... so after I moved here I was looking for something similar, but there is no Lego store here! Walmart and Target are the next best thing and they are not even close! I was very excited once I found this place! We went on a weekend, lunch hour! The store was not very crowded. The top shelves wall was lined with displays of assembled pieces for sale. Some boxed items but not that much. Lots of bricks for sale (like the brick wall in Lego store). A lot of small parts like bicycle, boat, horses, etc... bagged. Easy to find and pick out. Many minifigures! It was my first time and eventually I figured out how the case was organized (by series, then like Harry Potter, Marvel/DC, etc). Would be easier if labelled but not that hard to figure out if you've been there before. We were looking for the Black Pearl and Captain Sparrow and no luck. I found Flounder and Sebastian, same price as eBay so we got them! YAY! The staff is nice. They asked if we want to join something but given we don't know how it works (and I was too hangry waiting for my lunch next door) we passed. Will definitely look into it next time. read more

First off this is a cool little lego store to bring your kid in to swift around and play with lego or to get pieces that you need if a set you have has missing pieces and dont want to wait for Lego website or bricklink to ship you pieces, They also have all kinds of mini figures if there is a certain one you are looking for. They also sell new and used pre built sets which some are complete and some aren't I would recommend this place to buy Lego from However i wouldn't recommend selling your used lego sets here, they are like gamestop and give you little cash/store credit and while they give you a little more for store credit its not a whole lot, then they turn around and sell what you traded in for close to retail price. Maybe the good thing about selling lego to them is if you have a tub full of unwanted lego that you want to get rid of and not throw away. The other day i brought in 5 complete sets with box and instructions that were adult owned by me and got store credit for 4 sets as i saw something i wanted in the store and was given only $45 in store credit when the sets i traded in easily totaled $230 and were retired sets, i get they are a business and have to make money but they could have been a little more generous with the store credit as i was going to use it to purchase something that same day. Another thing they dont list on their website is if you have a set thats opened but complete and disassembled in the box they will only do it as bulk lego and base trade in price by the pound, they will give you more if the set is pre built already. One good thing that came out of that day was a older lady with her grandson spotted a complete star wars set i was going to trade in for store credit and asked if she could buy it for her grandson since he really wanted it and i sold it to her a little under retail price that i bought it for so that was a pretty good deal for me to get some good cash from and her grandson got a set that he wanted that was no longer for sale. Good store to buy Lego from But you are better off selling your complete sets on ebay or marketplace to get more than what they offer you..... read more

Great customer service! I was in a couple of weeks ago and asked for one of my favorite mini figures, which they had, but missing an accessory. Gentleman at the counter said he would keep an eye out for it. Sure enough, ten days later, I walked into the store for some bricks and was handed the accessory. This store is the coolest! We live around the corner and notice it often.. my 8 year old has been asking to come so we brought him, today, on his 9th birthday! There is a ton to choose from and everything is well organized and labeled. The prices are really doable too! We spent about an hour browsing through all the bins and shelves. The young man working was patient while we chose a few figures from the locked cabinets and he also gave my son a freebie for his birthday. It was so unexpected and extremely thoughtful, because he gave him one that we put back because of the price. As we were walking out, my son shouted "best day ever!" This store is a Lego lovers heaven on earth! My whole family loves to build and create with Lego and Five Star Bricks has been a weekly place to visit. The staff are truly amazing. They care about kids and get just as excited as them when they share their ideas about a build or kit. The owner is invested in building community and it shows. I was told to leave and never return after trying to sell some small pre-assembled kits. I was told they were "too dusty". I have sold many older items at both this and the Orangevale location and this has never been an issue. I was told cleaning them was "too labor intensive" and that they had "higher standards". I somewhat snarkily replied to simply "run them under a tap" and the proprietor said I could have done the same thing. I replied that I was here now. He then told me to leave and not return, I apologized and he said it again with emphasis. Orangevale is excellent, Laguna is not as well staffed or friendly. Super cool place to take for the kids and adults who loves Legos! They have new box sets, sets that are already built and loose pieces for purchase. The price on the new boxes are almost same to what other stores havebut sold out or hard to find sets are a little bit more pricey. They have a ton of Minifigs as well.
